Welcome to Colombia!
Let our Colombian adventure begin!
Flights to/from Italy are not included in the package, so you can decide which airport to leave from, at what time and with the airline you prefer... This is to give you maximum freedom of choice.
Our adventure begins in the capital of Colombia, Bogota ! We are ready to start this adventure off on the right foot. Let's use these first hours on Colombian soil to get to know each other and get involved in the Latin rhythm of this new country, which we will surely fall in love with by the end of the trip... are you ready?!
Discovering Bogota
Discovering Bogota
Today we will dedicate the whole day to getting to know Bogota and to get in touch with the Colombian culture! We can visit the Catedral de Sal , a unique underground complex located inside the Zipaquirà salt mine! Walk through the streets of the historic center to discover Candelaria , a typical neighborhood that winds around Plaza Bolivar, where we will see beautiful colonial buildings and murals by South American street artists . In Candelaria you will find the famous Gold Museum, essential for understanding the history of pre-colonial Colombia, and the Botero Museum. We could end our tour at Cerro de Monserrate , and see our first sunset, or immerse ourselves in the local culture in some bar in the lively La Candelaria neighborhood.

Leticia: Our Amazon Adventure Begins!
Discovering Leticia!
Today our adventure in the Amazon begins! We will take a flight that will take us to Leticia , located on the Amazon River between Brazil and Peru, which will be our starting point to explore the uncontaminated nature and immerse ourselves in the unique atmosphere of this jungle, with its sounds, colors and scents. We will have a quick lunch and begin this unique experience!
Wayruru Community: Between Jungle, Indigenous Culture and Night Excursions
We reach Terapacá, where our first excursion awaits us! We will take a walk in the Amazon forest, to reach the indigenous community of Wayruru . Once we reach the “Maloca”, the heart of the village, we will be welcomed by a shaman who will tell us their history, their culture and the sacred plants used by them such as Mambe, Coca, Rape, Ambil and ground tobacco.
We will prepare a typical dinner with the locals and visit the "chagra" where traditional crops such as cassava, banana, pineapple, coca plant and tobacco are grown. After dinner we will begin our night trek in the jungle , to see bioluminescent mushrooms and fascinating plants and other animals that populate the Amazon at night. We will sleep surrounded by nature and silence , in this corner of paradise. What an unforgettable day!

The Amazon River and the Marasha Nature Reserve
We will sail along the largest river in the world!
Today we have an intense and adventurous day ahead of us: with a local boat we will sail along the Amazon River , the longest river in the world, which crosses nine South American countries, observing local fishermen at work and uncontaminated nature! We will be surrounded by tropical plants, giant centuries-old trees, wild animals and hidden rivers , discovering a unique and still largely unexplored world.
The Reserve Marasha
Once we reach the Marasha Reserve, we will walk in the forest surrounded by unspoiled nature, medicinal trees, wild animals and birds that inhabit the area. Here a typical lunch awaits us and an excursion through which we will reach the treetops with a zip line , we will admire the view from above and the many exotic animals that populate this area. No, it's not a dream: we will "fly" from one tree to another !
After lunch you will be spoiled for choice: we can try our hand at piranha fishing , bird watching or kayaking around the river. After dinner, for adventure lovers there will be the possibility of going out in a canoe to spot the local alligators or admire the night sky full of stars! And to make sure we don't miss anything... we will sleep in the heart of the Amazon, in tree houses!
Let's say goodbye to the Amazon and fly to Salento!
Tabatinga: a trip to Brazil before leaving again!
Today is our last day in the Amazon: wake up early to go back to Leticia where we will take the internal flight to Salento. If we have time, before leaving the Amazon, we will stop in the Brazilian city of Tabatinga , to visit the Chocolate Museum, buy some souvenirs and, why not, also taste a Capirinha!
We are arriving in Salento!
Our Colombian adventure continues: we arrive in Salento , in one of the most typical and symbolic areas of Colombia! Salento is an ancient town in Quindio, a Colombian department located on the central mountain range. We use the rest of the day to settle into the hotel, relax and share the emotions of the days in the Amazon :) .. and get ready to visit this fantastic area immersed in splendid green mountains and coffee plantations .

Cocora Valley and Salento: between plantations and coffee production
Trekking among the tallest palm trees in the world!
Description Ready for another dive into Colombian nature? Today a unique spectacle awaits us: we will be able to admire the tallest wax palms in the world ! We climb aboard the famous Colombian Willys jeeps to reach the Cocora Valley , 15 km east of Salento. It will be impossible not to notice the very tall palm trees that dominate the landscape: they can reach up to 70 meters in height and are considered the national tree of Colombia!
A 5-6 hour trek awaits us immersed in uncontaminated nature among giant palm forests, rivers and, if we are lucky, we might even spot the hummingbirds that inhabit this area... in short, an unmissable adventure! We can't wait to test our legs and our energy, to discover this corner of paradise. Once we reach the top of the mountain, the spectacular view over the entire valley will truly leave us breathless.
Coffee aroma
Salento and the surrounding areas base their economy on the production of coffee: we are in fact in the Cafetera area of Colombia , the most famous when it comes to this drink. We cannot, therefore, miss the unique opportunity to visit a coffee farm and discover all the secrets of the most famous drink in these parts: from harvesting, to production, up to tasting the local Arabica. Our guide will accompany us through the plantations, explaining when is the right time to collect the most precious beans, and then we will relax with the locals in front of a good cup of coffee!
At sunset we move towards the Mirador, from where we can admire a breathtaking view of Salento and the surrounding area, before returning to the center for dinner!

Medellin and the Comuna 13
Medellin or Medallo: A Colombian Symbol
Wake up early: today we have the longest transfer of our trip . We get comfortable and enjoy the on the road that, between landscapes, group playlists, laughter and naps, will take us to Medellin: the city of Pablo Escobar . Many associate it only with the scenes of Narcos... but in reality it has much more to offer. Named by Time magazine as the most innovative city of the year in 2013, Medallo, as its inhabitants call it, is the symbol of Colombia that is reborn and looks forward . Between colorful neighborhoods, graffiti, local markets and nightlife, we will have the opportunity to explore the city far and wide, aboard the metro, the cable car, the tram, means of transport that have become the symbols of the city's innovation.
Comuna 13: The “Cradle of Pablo Escobar”
We start with a walking tour of Comuna 13 , also known as “Pablo Escobar’s cradle”. This neighborhood, located in the northwest area of Medellin on the slopes of the mountain, has gone from being one of the most dangerous neighborhoods, full of violence and guerrilla warfare between drug traffickers, to becoming one of the most visited places in the city. An open-air museum that tries to tell the story of Comuna 13, a neighborhood of young artists, made more modern and touristic thanks to a unique open-air escalator system. It will be incredible to see with our own eyes how this neighborhood has been revalued after years of abandonment: it’s the magic of Medellin!
…are you still excited?
We can choose to visit El Basurero de Moravia, a 30-meter-high former landfill transformed into a nursery, and Ayacucho, a pedestrian street surrounded by murals and traversed by a modern tram. Or the Ciudad del Rio park and the Museum of Modern Art. If we don't feel like staying in the city, there is the Arvi Park, a 16,000-hectare ecological nature reserve, 54 miles of walkable trails, home to a rich wild flora and numerous butterflies, including the brightly colored morpho. In short, we certainly won't be bored today!

Guatapé and Piedra del Peñol
A day in Guatapé
Today we are ready to visit the splendid Guatapé , known for being one of the most beautiful but above all most colourful cities in the world! In fact, in the city there are the very colourful “zocolas” , the bas-reliefs that decorate the facades of the houses and the drawings linked to the history of the families who live here. In the afternoon we move not far away, towards the famous El Peñón de Guatapé , also called Piedra del Peñól, a granite monolith that is also a national monument: to get to the top there are a few steps to do, but it will be worth it because the view is one of the most beautiful in the whole country!

To Cartagena de Indias: finally a sea!
Discovering Cartagena: Pure Relaxation
Today we change the area completely: we wake up early and, with an internal flight, we reach the wonderful city of Cartagena , the jewel in the crown of the Caribbean coast.
In this city you can breathe that "dolce far niente" atmosphere that we really need, after long transfers, crazy adventures and internal flights. We have the whole day to discover every corner of this city rich in history, and let ourselves be enchanted by its streets full of colorful houses. We can buy some souvenirs to take home and taste some typical dishes: the local cuisine is one of the best in the country. To make this day memorable, we cannot miss the sunset from the castle of San Felipe de Barajas : a spectacular view that will leave us breathless.

San Andres: Three days in the Caribbean Sea await us
Big, big, big!
After so many adventures in the greenest nature, three days of sea and relaxation await us from today! We take our last internal flight that will take us to San Andres : a Colombian archipelago off the coast of Nicaragua, a true jewel of the Caribbean! There is no point in trying to describe this paradise in words, we can only experience it: we will spend the day among crystalline waters, corals and fine white sand . And then, we cannot forget to taste the delicacies of the area, such as rondón, a Caribbean dish of fish, pork, shellfish, banana and coconut milk... perhaps accompanied by a tropical fruit cocktail. In short, today we just have to enjoy the sun and the sea, in an atmosphere of pure joy!

San Andres: Snorkeling in the Coral Reef
A sea of seven colors
Even today sea and relaxation! The coral island of San Andres offers a varied ecosystem of corals, geysers, plantations and reefs. With its crystalline waters , it is in fact the perfect destination for lovers of diving and snorkeling . We can therefore choose to take a boat trip, to come into contact with the archipelago, snorkel and explore the coral reef: the visibility here is up to 30 meters and the sea is so splendid that the locals say it is made of 7 colors!

The San Andres Archipelago
Shall we explore the archipelago?
Today we can dedicate the day to exploring the archipelago and its unique ecosystem: the best beaches, the Santa Catalina Island "satellite" of San Andres that can be reached by walking along a 100-meter long pedestrian bridge, the beach of Johnny Cay with its cedars that seem like natural homes for the birds that populate it, the mangrove forests, Morgan's Cave, and the Blow Hole. In short ... you'll be spoiled for choice!
The island is full of fun and energy: reggaeton music fills the air, and blends with the notes of salsa and calypso music. The inhabitants love to dance, party, smile at life. Today is our last night together so let's get ready to dance and have fun like never before and enjoy every single moment to the fullest, letting ourselves be carried away by the emotions of this fantastic journey!

It’s a great way to start getting to know your travel mates, receive more details about the first day’s meeting point, and ask any pre-departure questions you might have.
This journey ends at San Andres. On the last day, you are free to leave at any time, so whether you need to book a flight, a train, or wish to continue the journey on your own, you can organize your return as you prefer.
The pace is high to experience all program activities and the most authentic Colombia. There will be moments of celebration and relaxation. The use of trekking shoes and layered clothing is recommended.

About Colombia
If you are a UK citizen, to find out the entry requirements for Colombia, you can check this informational page from our partner Sherpa. If you need a visa, you can apply for it through Sherpa. If you are not a UK citizen, you can still use Sherpa by changing the nationality in the 'Passport' section.
Before traveling, always remember to check the government website of your country of origin for updates on the entry requirements for Colombia – you wouldn’t want to stay home due to a bureaucratic detail!
- UK residents: review the FCDO Travel Advice.
- US residents: consult the US Department of State Travel Advice.
- Other residents: refer to your government or local consulate's travel advice.
Colombia is in the Colombia Time Zone, which is 5 hours behind Coordinated Universal Time (UTC-5). Colombia does not observe daylight saving time. If it's 12pm in the UK, it will be 7am in Colombia. If it's 12pm in New York, USA, it will be 12pm in Colombia as both share the same time zone. However, if you're in Los Angeles, USA, and it's 12pm, it will be 3pm in Colombia.
Colombia uses the Colombian Peso (COP). The exchange rates are approximately:
- 1 GBP to 5,000 COP
- 1 USD to 4,000 COP
- 1 EUR to 4,500 COP
You can exchange currency at banks, exchange offices, or airports. Always check for the latest rates and compare options for the best deal.
In Colombia, you can pay using cash, credit cards, and debit cards. Most places accept major credit cards like Visa and MasterCard, but it's always a good idea to carry some cash for smaller vendors or rural areas. ATMs are widely available for withdrawing Colombian pesos. Keep in mind that some places might charge a fee for card transactions, so having a mix of payment options is advisable.
Tipping in Colombia is appreciated but not mandatory. In restaurants, a service charge of around 10 percent is often added to your bill, but it is customary to leave an additional tip if you are happy with the service. For taxi drivers, rounding up the fare is a nice gesture. Hotel staff and tour guides would appreciate a small tip too. Always check your bill to see if a service charge is included before deciding on the extra tip.
In Colombia, you will find that Wi-Fi is widely available in most urban areas, especially in hotels, cafes, and restaurants. However, if you plan to explore rural areas or need constant connectivity, we recommend you buy a local SIM card. Major providers like Claro, Movistar, and Tigo offer affordable prepaid plans with data. You can purchase these SIM cards at airports, convenience stores, or provider shops. If your phone supports it, consider an e-SIM for even greater convenience.
In Colombia, the official language is Spanish. You'll find that most Colombians are friendly and helpful, and knowing a few basic Spanish phrases can enhance your travel experience. Here are some useful expressions you might hear or use:
- Hello: Hola
- Thank you: Gracias
- Please: Por favor
- Excuse me: Perdón
- How much is it?: ¿Cuánto cuesta?
- Do you speak English?: ¿Hablas inglés?
While English is understood in some tourist areas, it's always helpful to have a translation app or a phrasebook handy.
In Colombia, you'll find that they use Type A and Type B plugs. These are the same as those used in the US, with two flat parallel pins and sometimes an additional grounding pin. The electrical voltage is 110V, and the frequency is 60Hz. If your devices aren't compatible, bring a universal adapter to ensure you can charge and use your electronics smoothly.
The main religion in Colombia is Roman Catholicism. It's important to note that Colombians celebrate several religious holidays, which are widely observed throughout the country. Some key holidays include:
- Holy Week (Semana Santa): A major religious event celebrated with processions and events in the week leading up to Easter Sunday.
- Christmas (Navidad): Celebrated with various festivities, including the Novena de Aguinaldos, which are gatherings for prayer and singing in the nine days before Christmas.
When visiting churches or attending religious events, modest dress is appreciated, although there's no strict dress code.
When packing for Colombia, consider its diverse climates from tropical coasts to cooler highlands. Here's a practical list for your backpack:
-
Clothing:
- Lightweight shirts and shorts
- Long-sleeve shirts and pants for cooler areas
- A light sweater or jacket
- Swimwear
- Raincoat or poncho
-
Shoes:
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Sandals
- Hiking boots for outdoor adventures

About WeRoad
Round-trip flights are not included in any of our trips because we like to give you autonomy and flexibility: you can choose the airline you want to fly with, the departure airport that suits you best, and how many and which stops you want to make.
Since flights are not included, you also have more flexibility with your travel dates: if possible, you can arrive at your destination a few days earlier or return home a bit later – or even continue independently to a nearby destination!
An "Available" departure means that the trip isn’t confirmed yet and we’re waiting for a few more bookings… maybe yours!
If you book, wait for the trip to be confirmed before booking your international flights!
This is the question of all questions, and here’s the answer, broken down into points!
The Money Pot is a common fund collected in local currency from all tour participants and managed by your Travel Coordinator.
It is used to streamline paymentsfor extra activities, goods and services that the whole group decides to do and to guarantee flexibility in choosing activities and excursions at the destination in line with the mood of the group.
It is typically collected on the first day of the trip in local currency, although at times, the Travel Coordinator may ask for it to be paid before departure.
You’ll find the amount of the money pot on the website under the section ‘What’s included in the money pot’ – how do you get there? Look for ‘What’s included’, scroll down to ‘Money pot? Click here’, and you’ll find the details.
The amount varies depending on the destination chosen.
It is used exclusively for group expenses that ALL participants decide to take part in.
It is estimated based on the experiences of other groups but can vary depending on the needs of the group itself. As such, the Travel Coordinator may need to increase the amount during the trip.
If not all of the money pot is used, the difference will be returned to all participants at the end of the trip in equal amounts.
The Money Pot also covers the Travel Coordinator’s share of the activities included in the money pot, except for those activities that are free for the Travel Coordinator.
If you pay in advance part of the money pot before the trip for certain non-refundable optional activities, unfortunately, the amount cannot be refunded in case of trip cancellation.
We offer several payment methods to fit every need:
1. Credit or debit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express);
2. Instalment payment with Klarna (you’ll pay for the trip in three equal amounts);
3. PayPal (for selected destinations);
4. Revolut Pay to pay even faster straight from your Revolut account.
Anyone who books a WeRoad trip has the option to cancel or modify the trip – including both the dates and the destination – free of charge up to 31 days before departure. In case of cancellation, you will receive a 100% refund of the WeRoad trip price. (Deposits will be refunded in the form of a gift card valid for 365 days from issue date.) If you make a change, a price adjustment will be applied to the new trip chosen – meaning, if the new trip is cheaper, we will refund the difference; if it’s more expensive, you will need to pay the difference.
If you’ve purchased the Flexible Cancellation Option (which you can add in the first step of the booking process), you can request a cancellation or trip change until 8 days before departure. In case of cancellation, you’ll receive a 100% refund of the WeRoad trip price, minus the cost of the Flexible Cancellation option. Deposits will be refunded in the form of a gift card valid for 365 days from issue date.
How to request a cancellation or change to your trip? Send us an email at [email protected] or a WhatsApp on +447716573700. Please share the booking reference for the trip you want to cancel or change, and, in case of a change, the new trip you would like to join.
In general, we always choose local accommodations, avoiding large hotel chains, because we love to experience the culture of the place and, whenever possible, contribute to the local economy. Typically, our accommodations are hotels, apartments, guesthouses, and hostels run by local entrepreneurs, with the same standard maintained across all trips in the same destination.
For our Collection trips, which are our premium category, the accommodations are always 4 or 5-star or carefully selected boutique hotels.
The list of accommodations for your trip will be shared with you by your Travel Coordinator between 5 and 3 days before departure, along with other useful details for your adventure!
If you're wondering why WeRoad trips have a money pot, we’re assuming you already know what it is. If not, or if you have any doubts, we invite you to read all the information here!
Let’s quickly recap: The Money Pot is a common fund collected in local currency from all tour participants and managed by your Travel Coordinator. It’s used to speed up payments for extra activities, goods and services that the whole group decides to do and to guarantee flexibility in choosing activities and excursions at the destination in line with the mood of the group.
But let’s get to the point: why the money pot? First of all: it gives us a lot of flexibility. In all WeRoad trips you will have a bunch of Must See/Must Do activities already included - these are experiences, places or activities that simply cannot be missed! Any extra activities is decided by the group, why? Because each group is unique and may have particular wants or desires and the Money Pot allows each group to customise their trip to make it perfect for their requirements!
It also helps us speed up payments – imagine being in the subway in New York City, one by one purchasing the ticket...a nightmare right? Thanks to the Money Pot, the Travel Coordinator can simply purchase the tickets for everyone making the entire processes smoother! Any leftover money will be returned at the end of the trip and split equally amongst all participants.
In some destinations, buying goods or services on site is more economical as you are able to negotiate the price - places like Morocco, or South East Asia, bargaining is part of the culture. As such, our Travel Coordinators will be able to secure the best deal for all participants.
The amount of the money pot is specified in each trip – look for this button
which will take you to a detailed breakdown for each trip, like this:
Even if we don't know the flights of all WeRoaders, there are several ways to find out which flights your travel companions have purchased.
1. Each WeRoader has the ability to communicate their flight details after booking within their personal area so that other travel companions can see the details anonymously. Enter your booking and you will find this section:
[Screenshot]
2. If you want to find out before booking, instead, you can contact us and we will support you in your search or you can ask your travel companions for direct information by joining our Facebook group 'WeRoad... let's get to know each other before leaving! (official)' – (here is the extended link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/weroadit) look for a post associated with your trip, or ask the group administrators for help in getting in touch with your future adventure companions!
If the coordinator has already been assigned to the trip you are interested in, you can easily find his/her presentation post in the group through the site: in the shift list click on 'Ask the coordinator', or in the trip tab, in the coordinator section, click on 'Ask [coordinator name] about this shift in our Facebook group'. For both cases, see the screenshots below!

On our group trips, the Travel Coordinator and participants speak English – knowing how to speak and understand English is therefore a fundamental requirement to participate in WeRoad.com trips.
On average, groups consist of 12 people, with a minimum of 3-4 participants and a maximum of 18-20 in exceptional cases.
The average age varies depending on the age range indicated for each trip: for 25-35 year-olds, it's usually in their 30s, and for 35+ year-olds, it's around 40. However, if you'd like to know the average age of a group, contact us via WhatsApp at 3484231163.
Regarding the gender mix, there's no guarantee that the group will be balanced, as it all depends on you and on when and what you book! We can, however, reveal a detail: many women book well in advance, while many men often arrive a bit last minute!
Want to know the specific composition of your group? Find out how here.
Yes! If you're curious, you can take a sneak peek at the group before booking – although, in our opinion, that kind of spoils the surprise! You’ll find the info in the ‘Group’ section for each trip on the departures page, showing how many WeRoaders have already booked. Click the little arrow and you’ll even see their gender and ages – but hey, that’s exclusive info, so we’ll ask you to log in or sign up to see that!
The WeRoad Travel Coordinator is an experienced and skilled traveller and will be the perfect companion for your trip. They will be available for any eventuality and will manage all the logistical aspects of the itinerary (transports, timings, accommodations, meeting points, etc.), so you can enjoy the trip without any worries!
You will have the chance to get to know them when the WhatsApp group is created approximately 2 weeks before departure - this will be the moment to ask any pre-departure questions and get to know the rest of the group! If the trip you are interested in already has a Travel Coordinator assigned, you can contact them before booking – their details will be specified in the schedule or on the trip page, or you can search for their name here. After booking, you will find their contact details in your Personal Area, under ‘Bookings and Trips’ > ‘Your Upcoming Trips’ > ‘Trip Details’.
Yes, in all our trips you will share a room with other same-sex travellers, and the bathroom will either be private or shared only with fellow participants of the trip. The rooms we select can be doubles, triples, quadruples, or multi-bed (up to 8 people in exceptional cases), depending on the destination and availability.
There are never dorms with people outside the WeRoad group, except in certain cases for local experiences, which are specifically mentioned in the itinerary or communicated before booking. These typically involve specific nights in unique accommodations like tents, homestays, or camping, offering a more adventurous travel experience in exchange for some comfort.
During the booking process, you can also choose to opt for a mixed room: in this case, if needed, only those who have agreed to this option may share a room with travellers of a different sex. If you are booking for multiple people together and select this option, the room will not be exclusive to your group but may be shared with other travellers in the group.
When you set off on a WeRoad trip, you’re officially a WeRoader – and as we often say, 'Once a WeRoader, always a WeRoader'. This means that once you’re part of the community, a little piece of WeRoad will always stay with you, even if you no longer travel with us.
But you’re not just a WeRoader during your trips, far from it! The community is alive and active all year round: you can stay in touch by following and interacting on our social media channels, like the Facebook group or the Instagram profile. We can also meet up for a dinner or a trek together at one of the events organised by our coordinators around the world!
