We’re kicking things off in Montego Bay before heading to the lush jungles of Ocho Rios to chase waterfalls at the iconic Blue Hole. But when the sun goes down, the real magic happens. From the world-famous Pelican Bar to the electric dancehall clubs of Kingston and the laid-back vibes of Negril’s 7-Mile Beach, we’re hitting the spots that most travelers never see.

This is more than just a trip; it’s an immersive deep-dive into Jamaican culture, music, and paradise. Whether you’re looking to recharge on white sand or turn up the volume with local beats, this is your ticket to the ultimate island life. Welcome to Jamaica! Today we land in Montego Bay. This first day is all about soaking up the atmosphere, meeting the group, and getting a feel for the laid-back but buzzing pace of the island. In the evening. We ease into the trip with a walk along the famous Hip Strip, one of the island’s liveliest areas for bars, music, and seaside energy. Blue Hole

We leave Montego Bay behind and head to Ocho Rios, one of Jamaica’s best-known coastal towns. The star of the day is the Blue Hole, where turquoise water, jungle surroundings, and a more adventurous vibe make for one of the most memorable stops of the trip. After the visit, we continue to our hotel and later head out to explore Ocho Rios after dark, with options like Margaritaville, Island Village, and Main Street setting the tone for a fun evening by the sea.

Today we travel across the island to Port Antonio, one of Jamaica’s most lush and laid-back corners. The highlight is a bamboo rafting experience on the Rio Grande, where you’ll float through tropical scenery at an easy pace. Lunch on the river adds to the relaxed, local feel of the day before we head to the hotel and enjoy the evening in town. It’s a perfect balance of movement, nature, and pure island calm.

Treasure Beach and Pelican Bar

Today, we head to Treasure Beach, one of Jamaica’s most authentic and low-key coastal areas. Here, you can choose to visit the Crocodile Safari and the famous Pelican Bar, two classic island experiences that offer a different side of Jamaica. These visits are not part of the itinerary itself and are optional extras; the crocodile safari costs approximately 50 USD and is paid separately. If you prefer to skip the extras, Treasure Beach is also the perfect place to slow down, relax by the sea, enjoy the laid-back vibe, or simply spend time on the beach. Afterward, we continue to the hotel and settle in for another night in this unique corner of the island.

By now, the trip has taken you from Montego Bay to Ocho Rios, Port Antonio, Kingston, Treasure Beach, and Negril, giving you a full picture of the island’s beaches, culture, music, and nightlife. This setup is especially important in Jamaica, where some of the roads we travel can be narrow, winding, and less suitable for large buses.

FAQs – Frequently Asked Questions

About this trip

What are the meeting and departure details for this trip?

This trip starts in Montego Bay. On the first day, we’ll meet at 17:00

Your Group Leader will add you to the WhatsApp group for your trip about 15 days before departure.
It’s a great way to start getting to know your travel mates, receive more details about the first day’s meeting point, and ask any pre-departure questions you might have.

This trip ends in Montego Bay. The trip officially ends at 10:00 on the last day, so we recommend planning your return transfers accordingly. For example:

  • if you need to book a flight, consider the time needed to reach the airport and complete check-in procedures;
  • if you need to book a train or continue your journey independently, consider the time required to reach the station or your next destination.

If you have any doubts, you can contact the coordinator assigned to your departure for advice.

What kind of luggage can I bring with me on this trip?

For this itinerary, you can choose the type of luggage you prefer – we always recommend a backpack, but you can also travel with a duffel bag, a holdall, or (it breaks our heart to say it) a cabin trolley case or a checked suitcase, as long as it’s moderate in size. Our Group Leader will suggest the ideal luggage before departure in the WhatsApp group!

About Jamaica

What are the entry requirements for Jamaica?

Find out the entry requirements for Jamaica, and, if needed, apply for your visa through our partner Sherpa.

Before traveling, always remember to check the government website of your country of origin for updates on the entry requirements for Jamaica – you wouldn’t want to stay home due to a bureaucratic detail!

What's the time zone in Jamaica?

Jamaica is in the Eastern Standard Time (EST) zone and does not observe daylight saving time. This means that Jamaica is 5 hours behind the UK. So, if it's 12pm in the UK, it will be 7am in Jamaica. If you are in the USA, note that Jamaica shares the same time zone as Eastern Standard Time. Therefore, if it's 12pm EST in the USA, it's also 12pm in Jamaica.

Which currency is used in Jamaica?

Jamaica uses the Jamaican Dollar (JMD) as its currency. The daily exchange rate can vary, but typically it's around:

  • 1 GBP = 190 JMD
  • 1 USD = 155 JMD
  • 1 EUR = 165 JMD

You can exchange currency at banks, currency exchange offices, and some hotels on the island.

How can I pay in Jamaica?

You can use cash, credit cards, and mobile payment apps in Jamaica. Credit cards, especially Visa and Mastercard, are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, and larger shops. However, for smaller vendors and markets, having some cash on hand is advisable. ATMs are available in urban areas where you can withdraw Jamaican Dollars. Make sure to inform your bank about your travel plans to avoid any issues with your cards.

Do I need to tip in Jamaica?

In Jamaica, tipping is appreciated but not compulsory. It's common to leave a tip for good service in restaurants, bars, and for hotel staff. We suggest you tip around 10 to 15 percent of the bill in restaurants. For hotel staff like porters or housekeepers, a small tip of a few dollars is nice. Taxi drivers also appreciate a little extra, usually rounding up the fare. While tipping is not mandatory, it is a thoughtful gesture and often welcomed.

What's the internet like in Jamaica? Should I buy a SIM card? How available is Wi-Fi?

In Jamaica, buying a local SIM card or an e-SIM data plan is a good idea for staying connected if you're not in Europe or the Schengen area. Providers like Digicel and FLOW offer good coverage and competitive plans. Wi-Fi is generally available in hotels, cafes, and restaurants in urban areas, but it can be less reliable in rural regions. For reliable internet on the go, a local SIM card will be your best bet.

What language do they speak in Jamaica?

In Jamaica, the official language is English, but you'll find that many locals also speak Jamaican Patois, which is a Creole language with West African influences. Here are some useful expressions in Jamaican Patois you might hear or use:

  • Hello: Wah gwaan
  • Thank you: Tank yuh
  • Goodbye: Likkle more
  • What's up?: Wha a gwaan?
  • Please: Mi a beg yuh
What kind of plugs are used in Jamaica?

In Jamaica, the plugs are type A and B, similar to those used in the United States. The voltage is 110V, and the frequency is 50Hz. If you're coming from Europe or the UK, you'll need a universal adapter to fit your devices. It's a good idea to check if your electronics are compatible with 110V or if you need a voltage converter.

What’s the main religion in Jamaica?

The main religion in Jamaica is Christianity, with the majority of Jamaicans identifying as Protestant. There are various denominations present, including:

  • Baptists
  • Anglicans
  • Methodists
  • Pentecostals

Religious holidays, such as Christmas and Easter, are widely celebrated throughout the island. Alongside Christianity, there are also followers of Rastafarianism, a religion that originated in Jamaica and has a significant cultural presence.

What should I pack for Jamaica?

Jamaica is a tropical paradise, so you'll want to pack light and be prepared for warm and humid weather. Here's a handy list of what to include in your backpack:

Clothing:

  • Lightweight t-shirts and tank tops
  • Shorts and skirts
  • Swimwear
  • Light, breathable dress for evenings
  • A light jacket or sweater for cooler nights

Shoes:

  • Comfortable sandals
  • Flip flops for the beach
  • Sturdy walking shoes for exploring

Accessories and Technology:

  • Sunglasses and a hat for sun protection
  • Waterproof bag for valuables
  • A camera or smartphone for photos
  • Chargers and a power bank

Toiletries and Medication:

  • Sunscreen and after-sun lotion
  • Insect repellent
  • Basic first aid kit (band-aids, antiseptic wipes)
  • Common travel medication (ibuprofen, antihistamines)

Remember to keep your backpack light and easy to carry as you explore the beautiful island of Jamaica.

What’s the weather like in Jamaica?

Jamaica enjoys a tropical climate, but the weather can vary slightly depending on the region:

  • North Coast (Montego Bay, Ocho Rios): Generally warm and sunny, with temperatures around 25-30°C (77-86°F). The rainy season is from May to November, but showers are usually brief.
  • South Coast (Negril, Kingston): Similar to the north, but a bit drier. Temperatures are also around 25-30°C (77-86°F).
  • Blue Mountains: Cooler due to higher altitude, with temperatures between 15-22°C (59-72°F).

The best time to visit is during the dry season from December to April for pleasant weather and outdoor activities.

What type of accommodation should I expect on your trips?

For our trips we usually use locally owned accommodation instead of big hotel chains. It’s our favourite way to really experience the local culture and, whenever we can, support the local economy. Typically, you’ll stay in hotels, apartments, guesthouses and hostels with the same standard maintained across all trips in the same destination.

The list of accommodation for your trip will be shared with you by your Group Leader 2-5 days before departure, along with other useful details for your adventure!

What payment methods can I use?

We offer several payment methods to fit every need:

1. Credit or debit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express);
2. Instalment payment with Klarna (you’ll pay for the trip in three equal amounts);
3. PayPal (for selected destinations);
4. Revolut Pay to pay even faster straight from your Revolut account.

Can I find out my travel groups' flights?

Yes! We might not know the flights for everyone else in the group, but there are ways to find out which flights your fellow WeRoaders will be taking.

1. All travellers can share their flight details after booking on their My WeRoad account so that other travellers on the same trip can see these details anonymously.

2. Alternatively you can join our Facebook group: Solo Travellers | WeRoad Community – (here is the extended link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/963298767843213 ) Look for a post about the trip you’re interested in or ask the group admin for help in getting in touch with your future travel companions!

3. If the Group Leader has already been assigned to the trip you’re keen for, you can easily find their Facebook post on the website.

How is a group made up in average?

Generally, our groups have an average of 11 people. Everyone on our trips speaks English, and travellers join us from across the UK, Europe and beyond. Our trips are open to travelers between 25 and 49 years old. The indicated age is meant to give you an idea of the type of group, but it's not a strict limit: it's possible to participate even with a few years more or less, as long as you can keep up with the pace and energy of the group you're traveling with.

Each group will be joined and led by one of our experienced Travel Coordinators, who’s there to ensure everything runs smoothly and the group feels well-supported.

If you’d like to know more about our typical WeRoad groups do reach out to us on WhatsApp on +44 7716573700.

Can I see who’s in the group before I book the trip?

Yes! If you're curious, you can take a sneak peek at the group before booking.
You’ll find the info in the ‘Group’ section for each trip on the departures page, showing how many WeRoaders have already booked.

Click the little arrow and you’ll even see their gender and ages – but hey, that’s exclusive info, so we’ll ask you to log in or sign up to see that!

If a location is mentioned, is it guaranteed that we’ll spend the night there?

For some trips, in the itinerary section, you’ll find the number of nights and the location (not the hotel) where you’ll be spending the night(s). The location shown is the one we usually go for on most trips, but in some cases, you might stay in a nearby town. This will depend on logistics or availability of accommodation.

The list of accommodation for your trip (and therefore also the exact locations) will be shared by your Travel Group Leader 2-5 days before departure, along with other useful information for your adventure!

Who is the Travel Group Leader and what is their role on the trip?

The WeRoad Travel Group Leader is an experienced and skilled traveller who will be the perfect companion for your trip. They will manage all the logistical aspects of the itinerary like transport, timings, accommodation, restaurant bookings and meeting points, so that you can enjoy the trip without this hassle. They’re there to support the group, ensure everything runs smoothly and will no doubt make the trip a lot of fun along the way too!

The Group Leader will set up a WhatsApp group approximately 2 weeks before departure. This will be the moment to ask any pre-departure questions and get to know the rest of the group! If the trip you are interested in already has a Travel Group Leader assigned, you can contact them before booking. Their details will be on the trip page, or you can search for their name here. After booking, you will find their contact details in your My WeRoad account, under ‘Bookings and Trips’ > ‘Your Upcoming Trips’ > ‘Trip Details’.

Will I be sharing a room?

Yes, on all our trips you will share a room with other WeRoaders in your group. By default this will be people of the same gender, unless you tick ‘I'm OK with a mixed gender room’ when you book. The bathroom will either be private or shared only with other travellers on the trip. The rooms might be twins, triples, quadruples or multi-share (up to 8 people in exceptional cases), depending on the destination and availability.

You will never share with people from outside of the WeRoad group, except in certain cases for local experiences, which are specifically mentioned in the itinerary or communicated before booking. These typically involve specific nights in unique accommodation like tents, homestays, or camping, offering a more adventurous travel experience in exchange for some comfort.

On some of our trips we can offer a private room for an additional cost. Just tick the ‘Private Room’ option at checkout to get this added. For some of our trips if you book as two travellers together you can add this private room free of charge. Look out for this option at checkout.

Please note that if you do book a private room with a friend/partner this could be either a double or a twin room so please email hello@weroad.com if you have a preference on this.

How can I be part of the WeRoad community?

When you set off on a WeRoad trip, you’re officially a WeRoader – and as we often say, 'once a WeRoader, always a WeRoader'. This means that once you’re part of the community, a little piece of WeRoad will always stay with you.

But you’re not just a WeRoader during your trips, far from it! The community is alive and active all year round: you can stay in touch by following and interacting on our social media channels, like the Facebook group or the Instagram profile. You can also come along to one of our many events that we run in different cities worldwide. Check out and sign up to our events by downloading the WeMeet app here
