Welcome to Morocco!
Check-in: our adventure kicks off in Marrakech
Flights to and from the destination are not included in the package, so you can decide which airport to depart from, at what time, and with the airline you prefer... This is to give you maximum freedom of choice.
We'll immediately be captivated by this great Moroccan metropolis, which, while preserving the country's cultures and traditions, is modern and constantly evolving. We'll spend the evening in the city center, warming up our engines: tomorrow our journey begins: get ready for an adventure that mixes history, culture, and fun like never before!

The Imperial Cities: Rabat and Meknes
Hiking through the Atlas Mountains
After a breakfast brimming with local flavours, we’ll leave the enchanting atmosphere of Marrakech behind and journey through the majestic Atlas Mountains to reach Rabat, the capital and our first destination.
Imagine yourself immersed in the lively buzz of bustling markets, the air filled with the scent of spices, and surrounded by an explosion of vibrant colours as we dive into the rich culture of this captivating city.
From Rabat to Meknes: magical adventures through Morocco's history, colours, and culture
We make our way to Rabat, the capital of Morocco—yes, it’s not Marrakech as many might assume! Situated along the Atlantic coast, Rabat greets us with its colonial streets, cafés, and shopping centres. But don't be deceived: history and culture are alive in every corner of this fascinating city.
We'll lose ourselves in the medina, surrounded by Moorish and Andalusian architecture that speaks of centuries-old traditions. Of course, we won’t miss the city’s iconic sights: the Kasbah des Oudayas, Hassan Tower, and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V.
Next, we head to Meknes, an imperial city and UNESCO World Heritage site. Here, we’ll explore grand gates, historic squares, and charming hidden corners. But the day doesn’t end there—we’ll spend the night in Meknes, so we can soak in the city’s magic at both sunset and sunrise, breathing in the allure of its winding alleys.

Heading to Volubilis and Chefchaouen: an enchanting journey!
From ancient Roman ruins to the blue city
After breakfast, we set off for Volubilis, where an extraordinary sight awaits: evocative Roman ruins that will transport us back in time, offering a glimpse into ancient history.
As we continue our journey through breathtaking landscapes, we arrive at Chefchaouen, the "blue pearl of Morocco." Founded in the 15th century by Jewish and Muslim refugees, this charming town is a painter's dream, with its vibrant blue buildings and narrow alleys. Here, we'll lose ourselves in picturesque streets and hidden corners, surrounded by lively colours and a laid-back atmosphere that turns every view into a masterpiece.
Nestled in the heart of the Rif Mountains, we’ll explore this one-of-a-kind city, an experience that will captivate both our eyes and our souls. Chefchaouen is the perfect place to end the day, leaving us with lasting memories of a journey through Morocco's history, colour, and sheer beauty.

Fes el-Bali: an authentic dive into the heart of the old city
From magical colours to the imperial charm of Morocco
After a magical night in the blue city, we set off for Fes, Morocco's cultural capital. Its ancient walls conceal a labyrinth of alleys, steeped in history, tradition, and the heartbeat of authentic life.
We’ll get lost in the medina, guided by our local expert, wandering through artisan workshops, vibrant bazaars, and tailors' shops, all while soaking in the unique scents, sounds, and colours of this historic city. We’ll cross Bab Boujloud, visit the famous Chouara Tannery—yes, it has a distinctive smell, but the view of the multicoloured rooftops is absolutely spectacular—and marvel at the impressive Kairouine Mosque and the magnificent Bou Inania Madrasa.
Next, we’ll step back in time at the Foundouk Nejjarine, a museum dedicated to the art of woodwork, before granting ourselves some free time to explore Fes at our own pace.
An intense and unforgettable day awaits, filled with history, vibrant colours, and unforgettable atmospheres, right at the heart of Morocco.

The magic of the Merzouga desert!
The beauty of nature: Ifrane, Midelt and the Ziz Valley
Get ready for a one-of-a-kind sensory adventure in the heart of the desert! From Fes, we’ll hit the road towards Merzouga, with the playlist ready because it’s going to be a long journey—but then again, the best experiences are never without a little effort!
Along the way, we’ll pass through the enchanting Ifrane cedar forest and make a stop for lunch in Midelt, famously known as the city of apples. Here, we’ll have the chance to soak up the local life and immerse ourselves in its vibrant colours and atmosphere.
Sunset among the desert dunes and night in the tented camp
Finally, Merzouga welcomes us with its golden dunes, the Erg Chebbi. We feel the warm sand under our feet as the sun sets, painting the sky with a thousand shades. After an exciting sunset on camelback, we head to our Luxury Tent Camp, right in the heart of the desert.
Camped among the dunes, we're greeted with a warm, fragrant mint tea; the aroma of spices mixes with the scent of burning wood, creating what they call the “magic of the desert”. The night transforms into a magical experience under a dreamy starry sky, filled with Berber dances, music, and the rhythm of drums, crafting a unique and evocative atmosphere.
And to top it all off, a delicious dinner with authentic flavours, where every bite is a journey for your taste buds. Amidst the golden dunes and twinkling stars, it'll be an unforgettable evening, engaging all your senses and leaving us with memories we'll cherish forever.

Discovering Rissani, Todra Gorge, and Dadès Valley
Desert sunrise, kasbahs and gorges!
This morning, we wake to the first rays of the sun in the desert. After breakfast, we set off towards Rissani, a town rich in history and culture, with its vibrant market and grand kasbahs.
As we continue, we arrive at the stunning Todra Gorge, where towering rock faces greet us, opening up into a truly breathtaking landscape. From there, we journey through the picturesque Dades Valley, surrounded by unique rock formations and lush green oases, before ending the day surrounded by the timeless beauty of this remarkable region.

Rose Valley, Ouarzazate and the return to Marrakech
Valley of Roses, Ait Ben Haddou and a cooking experience with local communities
Today, we dive into the Valley of Roses, renowned for its fragrant blooms, before heading to the awe-inspiring Kasbah Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Along the way, we’ll make a stop at the Todra Gorge, where the 400-metre-high rock walls will leave us speechless, offering a panorama that feels straight out of a postcard.
At Kasbah Aït Ben Haddou, we’ll lose ourselves in a maze of mud and straw alleyways, artisan shops, and sweeping views that whisper tales of a bygone era. Climbing to the top, the vista over the village and the vast desert is nothing short of breathtaking.
Next, we’ll visit a community teahouse, where local women will guide us through the process of preparing a delicious Tagine, sharing stories and smiles along the way. Finally, we’ll head towards Marrakech, carrying with us unforgettable colours, flavours, and memories.

The endless charm of Marrakech
Marrakech: between ancient alleys and the magic of Jemaa el-Fnaa
Our adventure is almost coming to a close, and today is all about Marrakech! After a restful night’s sleep, we head into the heart of the medina, a maze of alleys that unfold the city’s ancient history—a true treasure trove of traditional crafts, fragrant spices, and stunning Moorish architecture.
Our stroll takes us to the famous Jamaa el-Fna Square, an explosion of colour, sound, and life, where street performers, merchants, and entertainers create an unforgettable spectacle.
We’ll visit some of the city’s most iconic monuments, such as the Ali Ben Youssef Madrasa, the Koutoubia Mosque, and the Bahia Palace, before getting lost in the bustling souk. Here, we’ll be surrounded by textiles, wrought iron, wood, ceramics, silver, and leather—a true celebration of local craftsmanship.
For dinner, we’ll savour traditional dishes one last time, before diving into the evening’s festivities, filled with Moroccan fun and vibrant energy, to wrap up our trip in style.

Goodbye Morocco, thank you!

About Morocco
If you are a UK citizen, to find out the entry requirements for Morocco, you can check this informational page from our partner Sherpa. If you need a visa, you can apply for it through Sherpa. If you are not a UK citizen, you can still use Sherpa by changing the nationality in the 'Passport' section.
Before traveling, always remember to check the government website of your country of origin for updates on the entry requirements for Morocco – you wouldn’t want to stay home due to a bureaucratic detail!
- UK residents: review the FCDO Travel Advice.
- US residents: consult the US Department of State Travel Advice.
- Other residents: refer to your government or local consulate's travel advice.
Morocco is in the Western European Time Zone (WET), which is UTC+0.
However, Morocco observes Daylight Saving Time, usually from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October, shifting the time to Western European Summer Time (WEST), which is UTC+1.
During this period:
- If it is 12 pm in the UK, it will be 1 pm in Morocco.
- If it is 12 pm in New York, USA, it will be 5 pm in Morocco.
Be sure to check the current time difference when planning your trip, as it can change with daylight saving adjustments.
Morocco uses the Moroccan Dirham (MAD) as its currency.
The exchange rate can vary, but as a rough guide:

You can exchange currency at banks, exchange offices, and some hotels. Make sure to check for the latest rates before you travel.
In Morocco, cash and cards are widely accepted. You can use credit and debit cards in most hotels, restaurants, and larger stores, but it's a good idea to have some cash for smaller shops, markets, and taxis. ATMs are available in cities and towns, so you can easily withdraw cash.
It's often useful to carry Moroccan dirhams for everyday expenses, as not all places accept cards. Remember that smaller establishments might prefer cash, so having some on hand is always helpful.
Tipping is appreciated in Morocco and often expected for good service. In restaurants, it's common to leave around 10% of the bill as a tip. For smaller services, like taxis or porters, rounding up the fare or a small tip is appropriate.
While tipping in Moroccan Dirhams is preferred, small amounts in Euros or Dollars are usually accepted too. If you're unsure, you can always ask locals for guidance on tipping practices.
In Morocco, you'll find that Wi-Fi is generally available in hotels, cafes, and restaurants, especially in urban areas. However, for more reliable internet access while traveling around, it's a good idea to buy a local SIM card. Major providers like Maroc Telecom, Orange Morocco, and Inwi offer affordable prepaid plans with data. You can purchase a SIM card at the airport, in mobile shops, or even in some convenience stores.
If you prefer, you can also opt for an e-SIM data plan, which is easy to set up and doesn't require a physical SIM card. This way, you’ll stay connected even in areas where Wi-Fi might be scarce.
In Morocco, the official languages are Arabic and Amazigh (Berber). You'll also find that many people speak French, especially in urban areas, as it's widely used in business and government.
Here are some useful Arabic expressions you might hear or use:
- Hello: Salam
- Thank you: Shukran
- Yes: Na'am
- No: La
If you're heading to Morocco, having a few of these phrases at hand can be quite helpful in your travels.
In Morocco, the plugs are of types C and E. The standard voltage is 220 volts with a frequency of 50 Hz. If your devices use a different plug type, we suggest bringing a universal adapter to ensure compatibility. This way, you'll be able to charge your gadgets without any hassle.
In Morocco, the main religion is Islam. Most Moroccans are Sunni Muslims.
When visiting, especially during Ramadan, you might notice changes in business hours and daily routines, as it's a significant religious observance. Women travelers should consider dressing modestly, especially in rural areas or when visiting religious sites. Key religious holidays include:
- Ramadan
- Eid al-Fitr
- Eid al-Adha
Packing for Morocco can be exciting, as it offers a mix of cultures, landscapes, and experiences.
Here's a helpful guide on what to put in your backpack for Morocco:
-
Clothing:
- Lightweight long-sleeve shirts
- Loose pants or long skirts
- A light sweater or jacket for cooler evenings
- A scarf or shawl for sun protection and modesty -

Toiletries and Medication:
- Sunscreen and insect repellent
- Basic first-aid kit with band-aids and antiseptic
- Pain relievers like ibuprofen or paracetamol

Remember that Morocco is a Muslim-majority country, so dressing modestly is appreciated.
Morocco's weather varies a lot depending on the region and time of year.
- Coastal Areas: Mild winters and warm summers. Best time to visit is spring (March to May) or autumn (September to November) when temperatures are pleasant.
- Inland and Southern Areas: Hot and dry summers, especially in the desert regions, with cooler winters. The best time to visit is during the spring or autumn.
- Atlas Mountains: Cold and snowy in winter, offering a cooler escape in the summer. Ideal for trekking in late spring or early autumn.
Overall, spring and autumn are the best times to explore Morocco, offering milder temperatures and less extreme weather conditions.
About WeRoad
Round-trip flights are not included in any of our trips because we like to give you autonomy and flexibility: you can choose the airline you want to fly with, the departure airport that suits you best, and how many and which stops you want to make.
Since flights are not included, you also have more flexibility with your travel dates: if possible, you can arrive at your destination a few days earlier or return home a bit later – or even continue independently to a nearby destination!
An "Available" departure means that the trip isn’t confirmed yet and we’re waiting for a few more bookings… maybe yours!
If you book, wait for the trip to be confirmed before booking your international flights!
This is the question of all questions, and here’s the answer, broken down into points!
The Money Pot is a common fund collected in local currency from all tour participants and managed by your Travel Coordinator.
It is used to streamline paymentsfor extra activities, goods and services that the whole group decides to do and to guarantee flexibility in choosing activities and excursions at the destination in line with the mood of the group.
It is typically collected on the first day of the trip in local currency, although at times, the Travel Coordinator may ask for it to be paid before departure.
You’ll find the amount of the money pot on the website under the section ‘What’s included in the money pot’ – how do you get there? Look for ‘What’s included’, scroll down to ‘Money pot? Click here’, and you’ll find the details.
The amount varies depending on the destination chosen.
It is used exclusively for group expenses that ALL participants decide to take part in.
It is estimated based on the experiences of other groups but can vary depending on the needs of the group itself. As such, the Travel Coordinator may need to increase the amount during the trip.
If not all of the money pot is used, the difference will be returned to all participants at the end of the trip in equal amounts.
The Money Pot also covers the Travel Coordinator’s share of the activities included in the money pot, except for those activities that are free for the Travel Coordinator.
If you pay in advance part of the money pot before the trip for certain non-refundable optional activities, unfortunately, the amount cannot be refunded in case of trip cancellation.
We offer several payment methods to fit every need:
1. Credit or debit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express);
2. Instalment payment with Klarna (you’ll pay for the trip in three equal amounts);
3. PayPal (for selected destinations);
4. Revolut Pay to pay even faster straight from your Revolut account.
Anyone who books a WeRoad trip has the option to cancel or modify the trip – including both the dates and the destination – free of charge up to 31 days before departure. In case of cancellation, you will receive a 100% refund of the WeRoad trip price. (Deposits will be refunded in the form of a gift card valid for 365 days from issue date.) If you make a change, a price adjustment will be applied to the new trip chosen – meaning, if the new trip is cheaper, we will refund the difference; if it’s more expensive, you will need to pay the difference.
If you’ve purchased the Flexible Cancellation Option (which you can add in the first step of the booking process), you can request a cancellation or trip change until 8 days before departure. In case of cancellation, you’ll receive a 100% refund of the WeRoad trip price, minus the cost of the Flexible Cancellation option. Deposits will be refunded in the form of a gift card valid for 365 days from issue date.
How to request a cancellation or change to your trip? Send us an email at [email protected] or a WhatsApp on +447716573700. Please share the booking reference for the trip you want to cancel or change, and, in case of a change, the new trip you would like to join.
In general, we always choose local accommodations, avoiding large hotel chains, because we love to experience the culture of the place and, whenever possible, contribute to the local economy. Typically, our accommodations are hotels, apartments, guesthouses, and hostels run by local entrepreneurs, with the same standard maintained across all trips in the same destination.
For our Collection trips, which are our premium category, the accommodations are always 4 or 5-star or carefully selected boutique hotels.
The list of accommodations for your trip will be shared with you by your Travel Coordinator between 5 and 3 days before departure, along with other useful details for your adventure!
If you're wondering why WeRoad trips have a money pot, we’re assuming you already know what it is. If not, or if you have any doubts, we invite you to read all the information here!
Let’s quickly recap: The Money Pot is a common fund collected in local currency from all tour participants and managed by your Travel Coordinator. It’s used to speed up payments for extra activities, goods and services that the whole group decides to do and to guarantee flexibility in choosing activities and excursions at the destination in line with the mood of the group.
But let’s get to the point: why the money pot? First of all: it gives us a lot of flexibility. In all WeRoad trips you will have a bunch of Must See/Must Do activities already included - these are experiences, places or activities that simply cannot be missed! Any extra activities is decided by the group, why? Because each group is unique and may have particular wants or desires and the Money Pot allows each group to customise their trip to make it perfect for their requirements!
It also helps us speed up payments – imagine being in the subway in New York City, one by one purchasing the ticket...a nightmare right? Thanks to the Money Pot, the Travel Coordinator can simply purchase the tickets for everyone making the entire processes smoother! Any leftover money will be returned at the end of the trip and split equally amongst all participants.
In some destinations, buying goods or services on site is more economical as you are able to negotiate the price - places like Morocco, or South East Asia, bargaining is part of the culture. As such, our Travel Coordinators will be able to secure the best deal for all participants.
The amount of the money pot is specified in each trip – look for this button
which will take you to a detailed breakdown for each trip, like this:
Even if we don't know the flights of all WeRoaders, there are several ways to find out which flights your travel companions have purchased.
1. Each WeRoader has the ability to communicate their flight details after booking within their personal area so that other travel companions can see the details anonymously. Enter your booking and you will find this section:
[Screenshot]
2. If you want to find out before booking, instead, you can contact us and we will support you in your search or you can ask your travel companions for direct information by joining our Facebook group 'WeRoad... let's get to know each other before leaving! (official)' – (here is the extended link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/weroadit) look for a post associated with your trip, or ask the group administrators for help in getting in touch with your future adventure companions!
If the coordinator has already been assigned to the trip you are interested in, you can easily find his/her presentation post in the group through the site: in the shift list click on 'Ask the coordinator', or in the trip tab, in the coordinator section, click on 'Ask [coordinator name] about this shift in our Facebook group'. For both cases, see the screenshots below!

On our group trips, the Travel Coordinator and participants speak English – knowing how to speak and understand English is therefore a fundamental requirement to participate in WeRoad.com trips.
On average, groups consist of 12 people, with a minimum of 3-4 participants and a maximum of 18-20 in exceptional cases.
The average age varies depending on the age range indicated for each trip: for 25-35 year-olds, it's usually in their 30s, and for 35+ year-olds, it's around 40. However, if you'd like to know the average age of a group, contact us via WhatsApp at 3484231163.
Regarding the gender mix, there's no guarantee that the group will be balanced, as it all depends on you and on when and what you book! We can, however, reveal a detail: many women book well in advance, while many men often arrive a bit last minute!
Want to know the specific composition of your group? Find out how here.
Yes! If you're curious, you can take a sneak peek at the group before booking – although, in our opinion, that kind of spoils the surprise! You’ll find the info in the ‘Group’ section for each trip on the departures page, showing how many WeRoaders have already booked. Click the little arrow and you’ll even see their gender and ages – but hey, that’s exclusive info, so we’ll ask you to log in or sign up to see that!
The WeRoad Travel Coordinator is an experienced and skilled traveller and will be the perfect companion for your trip. They will be available for any eventuality and will manage all the logistical aspects of the itinerary (transports, timings, accommodations, meeting points, etc.), so you can enjoy the trip without any worries!
You will have the chance to get to know them when the WhatsApp group is created approximately 2 weeks before departure - this will be the moment to ask any pre-departure questions and get to know the rest of the group! If the trip you are interested in already has a Travel Coordinator assigned, you can contact them before booking – their details will be specified in the schedule or on the trip page, or you can search for their name here. After booking, you will find their contact details in your Personal Area, under ‘Bookings and Trips’ > ‘Your Upcoming Trips’ > ‘Trip Details’.
Yes, in all our trips you will share a room with other same-sex travellers, and the bathroom will either be private or shared only with fellow participants of the trip. The rooms we select can be doubles, triples, quadruples, or multi-bed (up to 8 people in exceptional cases), depending on the destination and availability.
There are never dorms with people outside the WeRoad group, except in certain cases for local experiences, which are specifically mentioned in the itinerary or communicated before booking. These typically involve specific nights in unique accommodations like tents, homestays, or camping, offering a more adventurous travel experience in exchange for some comfort.
During the booking process, you can also choose to opt for a mixed room: in this case, if needed, only those who have agreed to this option may share a room with travellers of a different sex. If you are booking for multiple people together and select this option, the room will not be exclusive to your group but may be shared with other travellers in the group.
When you set off on a WeRoad trip, you’re officially a WeRoader – and as we often say, 'Once a WeRoader, always a WeRoader'. This means that once you’re part of the community, a little piece of WeRoad will always stay with you, even if you no longer travel with us.
But you’re not just a WeRoader during your trips, far from it! The community is alive and active all year round: you can stay in touch by following and interacting on our social media channels, like the Facebook group or the Instagram profile. We can also meet up for a dinner or a trek together at one of the events organised by our coordinators around the world!
