In a captivating fusion of Islamic and Christian heritage, Seville and Córdoba rank among Spain’s most enchanting cities. Shaded boulevards guide us to the magnificent Plaza de España, whose gleaming majolica tiles and elegant bridges across the canal confirm its reputation as one of the world’s most breathtaking squares. The heart of the old city is dominated by the awe-inspiring Cathedral, crowned by the iconic Giralda tower, which rewards those who climb it with sweeping views across Seville. Just steps away lies the royal palace, the Alcázar—a labyrinth of patios, fragrant orange groves, and Moorish halls where we can imagine the lives of the kings who once resided there. No visit to Spain would be complete without a nod to its traditions, and so we pause at the Plaza de Toros, the country’s oldest and most distinguished bullring. Crossing the Guadalquivir River, we discover Triana, long celebrated as Seville’s vibrant district of ceramics.
An hour’s train ride brings us to Córdoba, where the spectacular red-and-white arches of the Mezquita alone justify the journey. Yet there is more: the city’s own Alcázar and the atmospheric Caliph’s Baths add further layers of history. We’ll meander through the flower-filled lanes of the old quarter before returning to Seville, where the rhythms of Andalucía come alive in a live flamenco class. And though every journey must end, ours concludes in style: beneath the striking wooden canopy of the Metropol Parasol, we share a final evening of tapas, sangria, and tinto de verano. Hasta luego, Andalucía!
