Itinerary
Journey to the Northeastern United States, where we dive into the rich history, natural wonders, and vibrant culture of this incredible region. This epic East Coast journey will take us from the bustling streets of New York to the majestic beauty of Niagara Falls, the political heart of Washington D.C., and the historic charm of Philadelphia.
We'll all meet up on the outskirts of NYC and waste no time leaving the city behind as we head north to Niagara Falls. We'll witness the sheer power and beauty of this natural wonder and take a boat trip to get up close and personal with the falls, exploring the surrounding parks. With our eyes still full of awe, we'll travel south to the nation's capital, Washington, D.C. where we'll wander round the National Mall, home to iconic monuments like the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument. We'll also admire the grandeur of the U.S. Capitol Building. After saying goodbye to Washington D.C., we'll make our way to Philadelphia, the birthplace of American independence, before arriving in Manhattan, the heart of the Big Apple, New York City. We'll explore Times Square, Central Park, and the Empire State Building before we part ways, enjoying one last New York night, reminiscing about every step of the journey: from the skyscrapers of NYC to the thundering waters of Niagara Falls, the political monuments of Washington D.C., and the historic sites of Philadelphia, we'll experience the very best of the Northeastern United States.

Welcome to the East Coast
Check-in: our adventure kicks off in the Big Apple!
Flights to and from the destination aren't included in the package, so you can decide which airport to fly from, at what time, and with the airline you prefer. This is to give you maximum freedom of choice.
We'll check-in at the New York hotel, near the airport for the Welcome Meeting.
Tonight we all get together for our first dinner (burger or hot dog?!) and tomorrow we're off to Canada! New York will await us for the return!

On the road to Niagara Falls
On the road
Today our road trip begins! After breakfast, we're heading to the car rental pick up point to get our hands on our rides. A long journey is ahead, so prep the playlist!
It's going to be an epic trip through diverse landscapes: from the skyscrapers of New York to the natural beauty of the Hudson Valley, and then we'll marvel at the grandeur of Niagara Falls, where nature's beauty will leave us speechless. This adventure promises not only incredible views but also a sense of wonder and discovery along the way: it'll be up to us to decide how many stops to make and where because a true road trip is all about freedom!

Niagara Falls: facing the power of nature
A spectacle of nature
We made it! We head to see one of the world's most iconic natural wonders, known for its breathtaking beauty, thunderous power, and captivating spectacle: the Niagara Falls complex. Located on the border between the United States and Canada, this majestic group comprises of three distinct waterfalls: Horseshoe Falls, American Falls, and Bridal Veil Falls.
Horseshoe Falls is the largest and most famous of the three, named after its distinctive horseshoe shape; it spans about 792 meters and plunges 57 meters into the Niagara River below. American Falls is approximately 323 meters wide and drops about 54 meters, while Bridal Veil Falls is the smallest of the three, situated next to American Falls. To get a closer look, we'll take a boat trip: ready to get soaked?!

Gettysburg: an American history lesson
On the road again!
Yeah, we know, saying goodbye to Niagara Falls is tough, but the show must go on: today we start heading south again, with Gettysburg as our destination. The name doesn't ring a bell?! Well, maybe a bit of history can help us remember: Gettysburg is a historic town located in Adams County, Pennsylvania, in the United States, most famous for its pivotal role in the American Civil War, particularly the Battle of Gettysburg, which took place from July 1st to 3rd, 1863.
Itâll take a few hours of travel before we get to town, but there will surely be time to visit the centre. It's picturesque and full of historic buildings, shops, restaurants, and inns. Then we'll head to an authentic American diner for dinner? Itâs definitely the best place to fully immerse yourself in the true American spirit and feel like a real local!

The capital of the United States: Washington D.C.
A day 100% culture
Just a couple of hours' drive separates us from the USA's beating heart: Washington D.C., a place where history whispers through marble columns and echoes in the halls of power. Like in House of Cards, right? Well, it feels a bit like stepping into that famous TV series, with Kevin Spacey as our guide.
Strolling through the National Mall, weâll be surrounded by monuments and memorials, each bearing witness to sacrifices made and battles fought. Then there's the U.S. Capitol Building, an emblem of governance and the people's voice, where ideas are debated, laws are made, and change is born. But first and foremost in Washington, a must-visit is the Library of Congress: we're talking about the largest library in the world, an architectural masterpiece, and as if that weren't enough, entry is totally free! Today is going to be a 100% culture day!

The other side of Washington D.C.
Arlington and Georgetown
Arlington is just over the river from Washington: cross the Potomac River and youâll see Arlingtonâs skyline ready to welcome you with a mix of modernity and historical significance. Beyond the monuments â like the national cemetery â Arlington is defined by a series of unique neighbourhoods, each with its own character. Rosslyn, closer to Washington, is a hub of business and modern skyscrapers, offering spectacular views of the capital. Clarendon, Ballston, and Courthouse are known for their vibrant urban scenes, with a myriad of options for eating, shopping, and entertainment.
Weâll have plenty of time to explore Arlington before heading back to Washington and visiting Georgetown, the historic and picturesque neighbourhood known for its charming streets, waterfront views, and lively cultural scene. And if you fancy a bit of a dark twist to the evening, we can head to the âExorcist Stepsâ made famous by the iconic horror film, but free of demons!

From Washington to New York with a stop in Philadelphia
Stopover in Philly
We're almost at the end of the trip, but there's still one city left on the list: today we're visiting Philly! Philadelphia, often affectionately called "Philly", is one of the oldest and most culturally significant cities in the country with a mix of tradition and modernity. It was in Philadelphia that the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence in 1776 and later the US Constitution in 1787. However, Philly is more than just that, and it's known for its historic neighbourhoods, each with its own distinct personality. The Old City, with its cobblestone streets, is home to numerous art galleries and the famous Betsy Ross House. Society Hill is characterised by picturesque 18th-century row houses, while Fishtown and Northern Liberties have become trendy hubs for art, dining, and nightlife.
The Philadelphia Museum of Art, home of the famous "Rocky Steps", houses an impressive art collection spanning centuries and cultures. Of course, we have to run up the steps with a soundtrack â you can't come here and not feel like Rocky for a few minutes! The city is also renowned for its foodie culture, so let's try not to eat too much at breakfast: from Philly's traditional cheesesteaks to soft pretzels to fine dining experiences, we certainly won't go hungry in Philly! And with full bellies, we're back on the road for our last stretch: it's time to head back to where it all began, New York City!

From Times Square to Brooklyn: a walking tour to discover the city
Times Square and the Empire State Building
Times Square - the beating heart of the Big Apple! One our must-dos is Krispy Kreme, where, like true Americans, we grab coffee to go and a donut, then head to the steps of the world's most famous square to eat them, Times Square!
After the obligatory photos, we head to Grand Central Station, which weâve seen in a many movies and TV series: itâs the largest train station in the world, and what makes it even more unique? In the main hall, thereâs an acoustic gallery: if we stand in one corner and whisper something to someone in the opposite corner, theyâll hear it loud and clear!
Then itâs time for whatâs possibly the most iconic skyscraper in the entire city: we head up to the top of the Empire State Building for an incredible view.
Brooklyn Bridge and Dumbo
This afternoon, weâll cross one of the world's most famous suspension bridges, and the longest one too, built in 1883, Brooklyn Bridge! A stroll here will let us admire the Manhattan Bridge and the Manhattan skyline from a totally different angle. Then, we'll wander through Dumbo, the creative heart of New York, a spot that drew tons of artists in the '80s and is now home to countless galleries and charming little places where we can stop for a sunset drink. To wrap up the day, we can head up to the Top of the Rock to catch the sunset and a breathtaking 360° view of all of New York, before we go celebrate the end of our tour with a great dinner all together â burgers again tonight, right?
Bye Bye America!

About United States of America
If you are a UK citizen, to find out the entry requirements for the United States of America, you can check this informational page from our partner Sherpa. If you need a visa, you can apply for it through Sherpa. If you are not a UK citizen, you can still use Sherpa by changing the nationality in the 'Passport' section.
Before traveling, always remember to check the government website of your country of origin for updates on the entry requirements for the United States of America â you wouldnât want to stay home due to a bureaucratic detail!
- UK residents: review the FCDO Travel Advice.
- US residents: consult the US Department of State Travel Advice.
- Other residents: refer to your government or local consulate's travel advice.
Important! If you have visited certain specific countries - for example Cuba - you cannot apply for ESTA. Check for other visa rules.
The United States of America spans multiple time zones, so the time can vary depending on where you are. Here are the main time zones:
- Eastern Standard Time (EST): 5 hours behind the UK. If it's 12pm in the UK, it's 7am on the US East Coast.
- Central Standard Time (CST): 6 hours behind the UK. If it's 12pm in the UK, it's 6am in the US Central region.
- Mountain Standard Time (MST): 7 hours behind the UK. If it's 12pm in the UK, it's 5am in the US Mountain zone.
- Pacific Standard Time (PST): 8 hours behind the UK. If it's 12pm in the UK, it's 4am on the US West Coast.
Remember that the US observes daylight saving time, typically from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November, which may alter these differences by one hour.
The currency used in the United States of America is the US Dollar (USD). As of recent rates:
- 1 British Pound (GBP) is approximately 1.21 USD
- 1 Euro (EUR) is about 1.05 USD
- 1 US Dollar (USD) equals 1 USD
You can exchange currency at airports, banks, and currency exchange centers throughout the country.
In the USA, you can pay using credit cards, debit cards, and mobile payment apps like Apple Pay and Google Pay. Cash is also widely accepted. Most places take major credit cards like Visa, MasterCard, and American Express, but it's a good idea to carry some cash for smaller businesses or tips. Always check if your card provider charges foreign transaction fees to avoid surprises.
Yes, tipping is customary in the United States and is an important part of the service industry. For restaurants, itâs standard to tip 15-20% of the total bill before tax. In bars, leaving around $1-2 per drink is common. For taxi drivers, hairdressers, and similar services, a tip of 10-15% is usual. Hotel staff, like bellhops, usually receive $1-2 per bag, and housekeeping staff generally get $2-5 per day. Tipping is how many service workers earn a significant portion of their income, so it's appreciated and expected.
In the United States, internet connectivity is generally reliable and widely available. However, if you want to stay connected while on the road, buying a local SIM card or an e-SIM data plan is a good idea. Providers like AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon offer various prepaid plans. If you're primarily staying in urban areas, you'll find free Wi-Fi in many places, such as cafes, restaurants, hotels, and public spaces. However, in rural areas, Wi-Fi might be less available, so having mobile data is handy.
In the United States, the primary language spoken is English. However, you'll find a rich tapestry of languages due to its diverse population. Here are some useful colloquial expressions you might hear or use:
- How's it going? - How are you?
- Awesome! - Great!
- No worries - It's okay, no problem
- Catch you later - See you later
- What's up? - What's happening?
These can help you get by and sound like a local during your visit!
In the United States, the plugs are Type A and Type B. The voltage is 120V, and the frequency is 60Hz. If you're coming from a country that uses different plugs, you'll need a universal adapter to charge your devices. Always check your device's voltage compatibility to avoid any damage.
The main religion in the United States is Christianity, with a majority of the population identifying as Christians. However, the U.S. is a melting pot of cultures and beliefs, so you will find a variety of other religions practiced here, such as Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism. The U.S. is known for its religious freedom, allowing people to practice their faith openly. There are no specific dressing requirements tied to religion in the U.S., and religious holidays are diverse, with Christmas and Easter being widely celebrated.

The question of all questions! Hereâs some more information:Â
- The Money Pot is a common fund collected in local currency from all travellers on the trip and managed by your Travel Coordinator.Â
- It is used to streamline payments for extra activities, goods and services that the whole group decides to do. This guarantees flexibility in choosing activities and excursions at the destination in line with the mood of the group.Â
- It is typically collected on the first day of the trip in local currency, although at times, the Travel Coordinator may ask for it to be paid before departure.
- Youâll find the Money Pot amount on the website under the section âWhatâs included in the Money Potâ. To find this look for âWhatâs includedâ, scroll down to âMoney Pot? Click hereâ and youâll find the details.
- The amount varies depending on the destination chosen.
- It is usually used for group expenses that all travellers decide to take part in, but sometimes if you opt out of an activity it might make more sense for it to come out of the Money Pot. In these cases the Coordinator will return the amount for this activity back to you at the end of the trip.Â
- It is estimated based on the experience of other groups but can vary depending on what activities your group is keen for. As such, the Travel Coordinator may need to increase the amount during the trip.
- If not all of the Money Pot is spent, the difference will be returned to all travellers at the end of the trip.Â
- The Money Pot also covers the Travel Coordinatorâs share of the activities included in the Money Pot, except for those activities that are free for the Travel Coordinator.
- If you pay in advance for part of the Money Pot before the trip for certain non-refundable optional activities, unfortunately, the amount cannot be refunded if the trip is cancelled.Â
We offer several payment methods to fit every need:
1. Credit or debit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express);
2. Instalment payment with Klarna (youâll pay for the trip in three equal amounts);
3. PayPal (for selected destinations);
4. Revolut Pay to pay even faster straight from your Revolut account.
Anyone who books a WeRoad trip has the option to cancel or modify the trip â including both the dates and the destination â free of charge up to 31 days before departure. In case of cancellation up to 31 days before departure, you will receive a 100% refund of the WeRoad trip price. If you make a change, a price adjustment will be applied to the new trip chosen â meaning, if the new trip is cheaper, we will refund the difference; if itâs more expensive, you will need to pay the difference.
If youâve purchased the Flexible Cancellation Option (which you can add in the first step of the booking process), you can request a cancellation or trip change until 8 days before departure. In case of cancellation, youâll receive a 100% refund of the WeRoad trip price, minus the cost of the Flexible Cancellation option.Â
How to request a cancellation or change to your trip? Send us an email at [email protected] or a WhatsApp on +447716573700. Please share the booking reference for the trip you want to cancel or change, and, in case of a change, the new trip you would like to join.
For our trips we usually use locally owned accommodation instead of big hotel chains. Itâs our favourite way to really experience the local culture and, whenever we can, support the local economy. Typically, youâll stay in hotels, apartments, guesthouses and hostels with the same standard maintained across all trips in the same destination.
The list of accommodation for your trip will be shared with you by your Travel Coordinator 2-5 days before departure, along with other useful details for your adventure!
Yes! We might not know the flights for everyone else in the group, but there are ways to find out which flights your fellow WeRoaders will be taking.Â

2. Alternatively you can join our Facebook group: Solo Travellers | WeRoad Community â (here is the extended link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/963298767843213 ) Look for a post about the trip youâre interested in or ask the group admin for help in getting in touch with your future travel companions!
