Welcome to Chile!
Check-in: Our adventure begins in Santiago
Flights to/from the destination are not included in the package, so you can choose from where and when you want to fly.
Our adventure begins in Santiago, the capital of Chile. We immerse ourselves in the local culture where we can explore the colourful Barrio Bellavista neighbourhood to admire the street art, or simply grab a drink, get to know each other whilst we watch sun go down at Cerro Santa Lucia.

Valparaíso, the city of a thousand colours!
Discovering Valparaiso
Today, we head to Valparaíso, a UNESCO World Heritage site, to explore this coastal gem. We’ll take a walking tour of the city’s colourful houses, iconic elevators, and scenic hills. Starting at Ascensor Concepción, we’ll visit Cerro Concepción for panoramic views, then head to Cerro Cárcel and the Parque Cultural de Valparaíso, a cultural centre in a former prison.
For lunch, we can either enjoy a meal at a restaurant with a view or try local street food, such as Chilean empanadas. Afterward, we’ll visit La Sebastiana, one of Pablo Neruda's three homes in Chile. In the afternoon, we return to Santiago!

San Pedro de Atacama between the Valley of the Moon and starry skies!
The Valley of the Moon
Rise and shine early for our flight to Calama, where our driver will greet us for a short, scenic ride to San Pedro de Atacama. After dropping off our bags at the hotel, we’re all set for a few days in a place that feels like pure magic—untouched nature and landscapes so unique, they’ll leave you speechless!
Ever dreamed of seeing a lunar landscape without a spaceship? In the afternoon, we’ll head to the famous Moon Valley, the crown jewel of San Pedro. Picture massive sand dunes, towering rock formations, jagged spires, and canyons that seem to stretch forever. As the sky slowly turns pink, we’ll watch one of the most breathtaking sunsets ever—complete with a delicious Chilean Pisco aperitif in hand, of course!
Astronomical tour and stargazing
We’ll cap off this incredible day with a star-gazing adventure right in the heart of the desert! The Atacama’s crystal-clear skies and lack of clouds make it one of the best places on Earth for stargazing. In the middle of the world’s driest desert, we’ll marvel at the southern hemisphere’s celestial wonders, using binoculars and telescopes to explore the night sky like never before!

The Tatio geysers and Cejar lagoon
The spectacle of dawn at the Tatio geysers!
This morning, get ready for another unforgettable adventure! We’ll head out early to reach the Tatio Geysers, the third-largest geothermal field in the world, located at 4,200 meters. It will be cold, but witnessing the sunrise over the steaming fumaroles will take your breath away!
After exploring the geysers, we’ll enjoy a one-of-a-kind breakfast in the middle of the desert, surrounded by silence—it’s an experience you’ll never forget. Then, we’ll head back to San Pedro for a relaxing walk and a delicious local lunch!
Cejar Lagoons
This afternoon, we’re off to a peaceful paradise—Laguna Cejar! Don’t forget your swimsuit, towel, and slippers because, in about an hour, we’ll be floating in this high-salinity lagoon, just like the Dead Sea. The water will keep you effortlessly afloat!
Surrounded by stunning volcanoes, snow-capped peaks, and endless glittering salt flats, the scenery will take your breath away. If the lagoon is closed or the weather’s not cooperating, no worries—we’ll have plenty of other options like nearby lagoons, spas, or even a trek to explore!

Finally in Bolivia!
In 4x4 between colorful lagoons and the Dalí desert!
This morning, we bid farewell to Chile and head toward the border with Bolivia, where our 4x4 jeeps and drivers are ready to take us on a three-day adventure through a magical region filled with colourful lagoons and jaw-dropping landscapes. Our journey begins in the Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve, with stops at Laguna Blanca, Laguna Verde, and the surreal Salvador Dalí Desert.
Next, we’ll head north to the Polques hot springs, where we can soak in a hot bath at 4,000 meters above sea level! Afterward, we’ll visit the Sol de Mañana geyser, with its impressive fumaroles, and the stunning Laguna Colorada, home to the famous Andean flamingos. Finally, we’ll reach our lodge, nestled in the heart of this otherworldly desert.

Bolivia on the road: high altitude among lagoons, flamingos and volcanoes
Flamingos and volcanoes… and the train cemetery of Uyuni!
After breakfast, we return to the jeeps for another day in the most authentic and uncontaminated nature! We start with the rock formations of Italia Perdida to continue with the Laguna de Vinto and its flamingos , ending with the Laguna Catal or Escondida , where we can take a walk and see animals such as llamas and vizcahas . We will visit the Valle de las Rocas and the Cañon de la Anaconda , while after lunch we will make a stop in the village of San Cristobal.
Before reaching Uyuni, we stop at the train cemetery, a few minutes walk from the center: a real depot of abandoned wagons, at almost 4,000 meters above sea level. In this place, as desolate as it is suggestive, we will find dozens of historic steam trains and locomotives, dating back to the 19th century, when the city was a locomotive factory. We will be able to climb on the wrecks and, with the right light of the late afternoon, take incredible photos!
Have you ever slept in a hotel made of salt?
We finally arrive in Uyuni ! Tonight a bed of salt awaits us, or rather a room, but what shall we say… a hotel made of salt ! Its rooms made of salt are well equipped, soundproofed and decorated with motifs from traditional Bolivian culture. After so many hours in the jeep, we deserve a bit of relaxation! We go out for dinner in the characteristic town of Uyuni to taste some Andean specialties: have you ever tried llama?

His majesty, the Salar of Uyuni!
The Salar de Uyuni
After a short stop in the small village of Colchani , famous for its salt extraction and processing, we will dedicate the whole day to Bolivia's most impressive natural attraction, the largest salt flat in the world with its 10,582 km², which will give us one of the most incredible views imaginable: his majesty, the Salar de Uyuni !
We will have plenty of time to enjoy the show and take the best optical illusion photos with the famous Ojos de Sal. We will have lunch in the middle of the desert and, in the afternoon, we will head to Incahuasi Island , in the middle of the salt flats, covered with ancient cacti up to 18 meters high, in a rare ecosystem that has survived for centuries.
Unforgettable Sunset on the Salar
At the end of the day, our drivers will take us to the best spot in the Salar to watch the sunset. We will enjoy a local aperitif while we watch one of the most beautiful sunsets of our lives!

On the way to Potosí
Discovering the silver mines
After so many excursions in the middle of nature, it is time to return to the city! We will leave our salt hotel to go to Potosí , a UNESCO World Heritage Site, characterized by its neocolonial architecture, and the highest city in the world, at 4,090 meters above sea level! However, Potosí is famous for its silver mine , a symbol of the exploitation and extermination of the local population by the Spanish conquistadors. The visit to the mine will take us into the belly of what the Incas called SumajOrcko, the “beautiful mountain”, where the miners still work, preserving their ancestral traditions.
We will have time to visit the city, with its squares and colonial buildings, and to taste delicious local dishes such as chambergos , typical sweets in the shape of a sombrero, in some panadería!

Sucre, the historical capital of Bolivia
The White City
Today we descend in altitude! We will take a bus that in a few hours will take us to Sucre, the first Bolivian capital and one of the most beautiful cities in the country . A UNESCO World Heritage Site and known as “La Ciudad Blanca”, Sucre has maintained its old colonial appearance almost unchanged, made up of elegant whitewashed buildings . We will visit the city and its historic center, from Plaza 25 de Mayo to the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, one of the most important religious buildings in the country. But Sucre is also the home of Bolivian chocolate , did you know that? We will then enter one of the main chocolate shops in the city to taste the best chocolate in the country!
After all this walking, we must be hungry! So let's choose a place to try the typical fritanga , a dish of meat and corn perfect for spicy lovers! Sucre is full of nice places, let's choose one with a terrace to admire the city at night, what do you think?

La Paz, the highest capital in the world
Local culture and cable car from La Paz to El Alto!
Check-out and wake up early, today we say goodbye to Sucre and take an internal flight that, in less than an hour, takes us to La Paz . We will immediately begin to get lost in the colorful streets of the center, crossing the folkloristic Mercado de las Brujas , or the witches' market, browsing among the various objects and natural elixirs for sale. Right here, we will come into contact with the Aymara civilization and culture and its ancestral traditions. We will continue our tour passing by Plaza Mayor de San Francisco, a meeting point for the inhabitants on weekends, and Plaza Murillo, the center of political power in Bolivia.
In the late afternoon, we will board the cable car that connects the lower city with El Alto . It is through the largest urban cable car network in the world that we will be able to understand the grandeur of this city and its particular geographical conformation. We could then taste some local Bolivian specialties, such as salteña , and enjoy the sunset from one of the many miradors. The evening is still long, how about having a little fun together?

La Paz: more adventure or relaxation?
Adrenaline on the Death Road or trekking to the Valle de las Animas?
Yes, there are many things to do around La Paz. The most famous is definitely the Ruta de la Muerte , a route that until a few years ago was considered one of the most dangerous in the world. Today it is a destination for mountain bike enthusiasts. The excursion is optional and starts from La Cumbre, at 4,650 meters above sea level, where you put on protective equipment and are explained the safety rules. It ends in Yolosa, at just 1,200 meters above sea level, where we will have lunch. Yes, you read correctly, we will travel 3,500 meters of altitude difference!
For something more peaceful, instead, we could opt for the Valle de la Luna and the Valle de las Animas , two valleys with curious rock formations, reachable with a simple trek, and the Palca Canyon , with gorges up to 200 meters high due to the thaw and the wind, which extend for the 8 km of the valley. In this case, after lunch we will return to La Paz, for a bit of relaxation, a few last strolls in the center to buy some souvenirs and prepare for the last dinner together! Our trip cannot end with dinner: let's look for a place to have a drink and share the most beautiful and funniest anecdotes and memories!

See you soon Bolivia!

About Chile
If you are a UK citizen, to find out the entry requirements for Chile, you can check this informational page from our partner Sherpa. If you need a visa, you can apply for it through Sherpa. If you are not a UK citizen, you can still use Sherpa by changing the nationality in the 'Passport' section.
Before traveling, always remember to check the government website of your country of origin for updates on the entry requirements for Chile – you wouldn’t want to stay home due to a bureaucratic detail!
- UK residents: review the FCDO Travel Advice.
- US residents: consult the US Department of State Travel Advice.
- Other residents: refer to your government or local consulate's travel advice.
Chile is primarily in the Chile Standard Time zone, which is UTC-3. However, during their daylight saving time, they switch to Chile Summer Time, which is UTC-2. If it's 12 pm in the UK, it will be 8 am in Chile when they are on standard time and 9 am during daylight saving time. For the USA, if it's 12 pm Eastern Time, it will be 11 am in Chile during standard time and 12 pm during daylight saving time. Keep in mind that Easter Island, part of Chile, is two hours behind the mainland.
In Chile, the currency is the Chilean Peso (CLP). The exchange rate can fluctuate, but as a rough guide, 1 GBP is approximately 1,250 CLP, 1 USD is about 900 CLP, and 1 EUR is around 1,050 CLP. You can exchange your money at banks, currency exchange offices, or even withdraw pesos from ATMs, which are widely available in cities and towns.
Credit and debit cards are widely accepted in Chile, especially in cities and tourist areas. Visa and Mastercard are the most commonly used, but American Express is also accepted in some places. Cash is still useful in smaller towns or for small purchases. We suggest you carry some Chilean Pesos for such situations. ATMs are readily available for cash withdrawals, though fees may apply. Always notify your bank about your travel plans to avoid any issues.
Tipping in Chile is pretty common and usually appreciated. In restaurants, a 10 percent tip is the norm and it's usually added to your bill automatically, but you can adjust it if needed. For taxi drivers, rounding up the fare is a nice gesture. In hotels, it's thoughtful to tip bellhops and housekeeping a little extra. When taking tours, guides often receive tips based on your experience. Tipping is not obligatory, but it’s a nice way to show appreciation for good service.
In Chile, the internet is generally reliable, especially in urban areas. Wi-Fi is widely available in hotels, cafes, and restaurants, but speeds can vary. Since Chile is not part of the European Union or Schengen area, we recommend you buy a local SIM card or an e-SIM data plan for constant connectivity. Popular providers include Entel, Movistar, and Claro, offering various prepaid packages that are easy to purchase at the airport or convenience stores. This way, you can ensure a good connection while exploring the country.
In Chile, the official language is Spanish. It's handy to know a few local expressions to help you get around:
- Hello: Hola
- Thank you: Gracias
- Excuse me: Perdón
- How much is it?: ¿Cuánto cuesta?
- Where is...?: ¿Dónde está...?
These phrases can be useful during your travels in Chile.
Chile uses Type C and Type L plugs. The voltage is 220V with a frequency of 50Hz. If you're coming from a country that uses different plug types, like the UK or the USA, it's a good idea to bring a universal adapter so you can charge your devices without hassle. Make sure your devices are compatible with 220V to avoid any electrical issues.
The main religion in Chile is Christianity, with the majority of the population identifying as Roman Catholic. There are also significant numbers of Protestants and other Christian denominations. In terms of religious holidays, Christmas and Easter are widely celebrated in Chile, often with public events and family gatherings. Keep in mind that while Chile is largely secular, religious customs and traditions can still play a significant role in local culture and festivities.

Chile's weather can vary quite a bit depending on the region due to its long and narrow geography.
- Northern Chile (Atacama Desert): Very dry and hot, with little to no rainfall. Best to visit in spring or autumn for milder temperatures.
- Central Chile (Santiago, Valparaíso): Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. Best time to visit is during spring or autumn.
- Southern Chile (Patagonia): Cooler and wetter, with unpredictable weather. The best time to visit is in the summer months (December to February) for more stable conditions.
Consider visiting during the spring (September to November) or autumn (March to May) for pleasant weather across most regions.
About WeRoad
Return international flights are not included on our trips because we want to give you full autonomy and flexibility. You can choose your preferred airline, fly from the airport that works best for you, and decide how many stopovers you want to make along the way.
As flights are not included, you also have more flexibility with your travel dates: you could arrive at your destination a few days early or return home a bit later – or even continue independently to a nearby destination!
An "Available" departure means that the trip isn’t confirmed yet and we’re waiting for a few more travellers to sign up… which could be you!
If you book the trip please wait for it to be confirmed before booking your international flights.
The question of all questions! Here’s some more information:
- The Money Pot is a common fund collected in local currency from all travellers on the trip and managed by your Travel Coordinator.
- It is used to streamline payments for extra activities, goods and services that the whole group decides to do. This guarantees flexibility in choosing activities and excursions at the destination in line with the mood of the group.
- It is typically collected on the first day of the trip in local currency, although at times, the Travel Coordinator may ask for it to be paid before departure.
- You’ll find the Money Pot amount on the website under the section ‘What’s included in the Money Pot’. To find this look for ‘What’s included’, scroll down to ‘Money Pot? Click here’ and you’ll find the details.
- The amount varies depending on the destination chosen.
- It is usually used for group expenses that all travellers decide to take part in, but sometimes if you opt out of an activity it might make more sense for it to come out of the Money Pot. In these cases the Coordinator will return the amount for this activity back to you at the end of the trip.
- It is estimated based on the experience of other groups but can vary depending on what activities your group is keen for. As such, the Travel Coordinator may need to increase the amount during the trip.
- If not all of the Money Pot is spent, the difference will be returned to all travellers at the end of the trip.
- The Money Pot also covers the Travel Coordinator’s share of the activities included in the Money Pot, except for those activities that are free for the Travel Coordinator.
- If you pay in advance for part of the Money Pot before the trip for certain non-refundable optional activities, unfortunately, the amount cannot be refunded if the trip is cancelled.
We offer several payment methods to fit every need:
1. Credit or debit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express);
2. Instalment payment with Klarna (you’ll pay for the trip in three equal amounts);
3. PayPal (for selected destinations);
4. Revolut Pay to pay even faster straight from your Revolut account.
Anyone who books a WeRoad trip has the option to cancel or modify the trip – including both the dates and the destination – free of charge up to 31 days before departure. In case of cancellation up to 31 days before departure, you will receive a 100% refund of the WeRoad trip price. If you make a change, a price adjustment will be applied to the new trip chosen – meaning, if the new trip is cheaper, we will refund the difference; if it’s more expensive, you will need to pay the difference.
If you’ve purchased the Flexible Cancellation Option (which you can add in the first step of the booking process), you can request a cancellation or trip change until 8 days before departure. In case of cancellation, you’ll receive a 100% refund of the WeRoad trip price, minus the cost of the Flexible Cancellation option.
How to request a cancellation or change to your trip? Send us an email at [email protected] or a WhatsApp on +447716573700. Please share the booking reference for the trip you want to cancel or change, and, in case of a change, the new trip you would like to join.
For our trips we usually use locally owned accommodation instead of big hotel chains. It’s our favourite way to really experience the local culture and, whenever we can, support the local economy. Typically, you’ll stay in hotels, apartments, guesthouses and hostels with the same standard maintained across all trips in the same destination.
The list of accommodation for your trip will be shared with you by your Travel Coordinator 2-5 days before departure, along with other useful details for your adventure!
Yes! We might not know the flights for everyone else in the group, but there are ways to find out which flights your fellow WeRoaders will be taking.
1. All travellers can share their flight details after booking on their My WeRoad account so that other travellers on the same trip can see these details anonymously.
2. Alternatively you can join our Facebook group: Solo Travellers | WeRoad Community – (here is the extended link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/963298767843213 ) Look for a post about the trip you’re interested in or ask the group admin for help in getting in touch with your future travel companions!
3. If the Coordinator has already been assigned to the trip you’re keen for, you can easily find their Facebook post on the website. Click 'Ask the Coordinator' and follow the link here.
Our groups usually consist of 8–12 travellers, with a minimum of 3–4 and a maximum of 15.
Everyone on our trips speaks English, and travellers join us from across the UK, Europe and beyond. Our trips are open to people in their 20s, 30s and 40s, with an average age of 34 across all trips.
Each group will be joined and led by one of our experienced Travel Coordinators, who’s there to ensure everything runs smoothly and the group feels well-supported.
If you’d like to know more about our typical WeRoad groups do reach out to us on WhatsApp on +44 7716573700.
Yes! If you're curious, you can take a sneak peek at the group before booking.
You’ll find the info in the ‘Group’ section for each trip on the departures page, showing how many WeRoaders have already booked.
Click the little arrow and you’ll even see their gender and ages – but hey, that’s exclusive info, so we’ll ask you to log in or sign up to see that!
For some trips, in the itinerary section, you’ll find the number of nights and the location (not the hotel) where you’ll be spending the night(s). The location shown is the one we usually go for on most trips, but in some cases, you might stay in a nearby town. This will depend on logistics or availability of accommodation.
The list of accommodation for your trip (and therefore also the exact locations) will be shared by your Travel Coordinator 2-5 days before departure, along with other useful information for your adventure!
The WeRoad Travel Coordinator is an experienced and skilled traveller who will be the perfect companion for your trip. They will manage all the logistical aspects of the itinerary like transport, timings, accommodation, restaurant bookings and meeting points, so that you can enjoy the trip without this hassle. They’re there to support the group, ensure everything runs smoothly and will no doubt make the trip a lot of fun along the way too!
The Coordinator will set up a WhatsApp group approximately 2 weeks before departure. This will be the moment to ask any pre-departure questions and get to know the rest of the group! If the trip you are interested in already has a Travel Coordinator assigned, you can contact them before booking. Their details will be on the trip page, or you can search for their name here. After booking, you will find their contact details in your My WeRoad account, under ‘Bookings and Trips’ > ‘Your Upcoming Trips’ > ‘Trip Details’.
Yes, on all our trips you will share a room with other WeRoaders in your group. By default this will be people of the same gender, unless you tick ‘I'm OK with a mixed gender room’ when you book. The bathroom will either be private or shared only with other travellers on the trip. The rooms might be twins, triples, quadruples or multi-share (up to 8 people in exceptional cases), depending on the destination and availability.
You will never share with people from outside of the WeRoad group, except in certain cases for local experiences, which are specifically mentioned in the itinerary or communicated before booking. These typically involve specific nights in unique accommodation like tents, homestays, or camping, offering a more adventurous travel experience in exchange for some comfort.
On some of our trips we can offer a private room for an additional cost. Just tick the ‘Private Room’ option at checkout to get this added. For some of our trips if you book as two travellers together you can add this private room free of charge. Look out for this option at checkout.
Please note that if you do book a private room with a friend/partner this could be either a double or a twin room so please email [email protected] if you have a preference on this.
When you set off on a WeRoad trip, you’re officially a WeRoader – and as we often say, 'once a WeRoader, always a WeRoader'. This means that once you’re part of the community, a little piece of WeRoad will always stay with you.
But you’re not just a WeRoader during your trips, far from it! The community is alive and active all year round: you can stay in touch by following and interacting on our social media channels, like the Facebook group or the Instagram profile.
