Itinerary

Imagine a journey through the enchanting Balkans: a road trip adventure between Albania, North Macedonia, Kosovo and Montenegro. This journey will lead us to discover a land rich in history, traditions and diversity – and we will do it in full WeRoad style, of course!

We set off from lively Tirana , the beating heart of Albania, to embark on a journey that will lead us to discover the authentic soul of the Balkans. We let ourselves be enchanted by the timeless atmosphere of Ohrid, with its crystalline lake and ancient churches, and we immerse ourselves in the multicultural history of Prizren, among Ottoman mosques, colourful bazaars and epic views. We continue through canyons carved into the rock, sailing on the fairytale Lake Koman, one of the most scenic places in Europe. Finally, we allow ourselves some well-deserved relaxation between the turquoise sea and the ancient walls of Budva and Kotor, to savour the sweetest essence of Balkan life - and why would you want to go to the Balkans and not take a trip to the seaside? An itinerary full of fascinating traditions, breathtaking landscapes, authentic flavours and bonds that are born along the way.

Check in: our journey starts in Tirana

Roundtrip flights or transportation to reach the destination are not included in the package, so you can decide from where and when you want to leave! This gives you complete freedom of choice to adjust your travel itinerary to your needs.

Upon arrival in Tirana, we'll check-in at the hotel and dive into exploring the colourful city. Let's find a delightful spot to taste our first Albanian dinner, perhaps trying the mouthwatering Tavë Kosi, a lamb, egg, and yogurt quiche. Get ready to embark on an unforgettable culinary journey in Albania!

In Ohrid:

Good morning WeRoaders, ready to cross a new border? We depart Tirana towards North Macedonia, crossing breathtaking landscapes until we reach Elbasan, where we stop for a coffee in the heart of the old city. Then off to Ohrid! Upon arrival we are immediately struck by the beauty of the lake: crystal clear waters, green hills and a dreamlike atmosphere. We have lunch on the lake shore, enjoying the local cuisine with a view.

In the afternoon we can explore the old town with a local guide: the Church of St. John at Kaneo, the Roman Theatre, the Church of St. Sophia and the alleys full of history and craftsmanship which will make us fall in love with Ohrid!

For those who fancy it, the afternoon can end with a boat ride on the lake, simply relaxing and taking in the spectacular views. Then comes the sunset, and the city lights up with magic. The evening is free, to experience Ohrid under the stars and, perhaps, toast with a glass of rakija.

A journey between two countries!

Today we set off for a day of true exploration: we cross a new border! Backpacks ready, playlist in the background and off we go: we leave Ohrid behind and enjoy a road trip between rolling hills and mountain passes, heading north, towards Skopje, the lively capital of North Macedonia.

Once we arrive, we immediately immerse ourselves in the heart of the city: immense squares, picturesque bridges and the iconic giant statues that make Skopje unique. Cameras at the ready, because here every corner deserves a shot! Depending on the weather, we can choose whether to get lost in the narrow streets of the ancient Old Bazaar, climb to the Kale fortress for a panoramic view of the city, or pop into the Memorial House of Mother Teresa, one of the most beloved and well-known figures in Skopje.

After a quick lunch in a local restaurant, we set off again… and this time we change country! We cross the border and enter Kosovo, passing through the breathtaking mountain landscapes of the Sharr region. Our destination is Prizren, and as soon as we arrive it is love at first sight: a historic centre that seems to have come out of a fairytale, minarets that stand out against the sky at sunset and a perfect mix of cultures and architecture. We settle into the hotel and then head out to enjoy the atmosphere of the city.

Prizren and Peje between history and tradition

Today we enjoy Prizren – no changing location today, we're staying put! We spend the morning exploring the city: between mosques, churches and the bazaar, every corner has something to tell. The cobbled streets take us into an authentic atmosphere, where history and culture intertwine in a unique way.

Then we move towards Peja, crossing spectacular landscapes. Its old bazaar is perfect for browsing among shops, local crafts and the scents of traditional cuisine. Those who want to can visit the Bazaar Mosque or the Ethnological Museum. Over lunch indulge in local cuisine, to get a flavour of this fascinating place.

In the afternoon we return to Prizren for a last walk through the bazaar, the Sinan Pasha Mosque and the Stone Bridge, overlooking the river and the city. The evening is free to relax, have dinner and enjoy the warm and welcoming atmosphere of this Balkan city.

All nature

Today we have a day immersed in nature… and what nature! We wake up early and pack our backpacks: we leave Kosovo to return to Albania, heading towards Fierza , where a one-of-a-kind experience awaits us. After a journey through rural roads and breathtaking mountain landscapes, we arrive on the shores of Lake Koman, ready to board the most iconic ferry in the Balkans. The journey on the lake is something spectacular: two hours of sailing through narrow canyons, emerald water and rocky walls that are reflected in the water.

Once landed in Koman, we set off north, crossing once again enchanting landscapes until we reach Shkodër, one of the fascinating cities of northern Albania. After checking in at the hotel, we have some free time to relax or explore the city on foot. In the evening, a stroll along the Shkodër promenade is a must: lively bars, a relaxed atmosphere and perhaps a dinner of traditional Albanian dishes to round off this day of nature and discovery.

Budva: finally the sea

Today we cross borders again: heading for Montenegro! Backpacks on our shoulders, a light breakfast and off we go: we leave Albania and cross the border passing through the peaceful landscapes of Lake Scutari, where we take a short break to recharge and enjoy the view. Our destination is Budva, pearl of the Montenegrin Adriatic coast and a true paradise for those who love sea, sun and relaxation. Once we arrive, we settle into the hotel and have the afternoon all to ourselves: we can dive into the waves of the crystalline sea, relax on the beach or get lost in the narrow streets of the old town, full of picturesque views and photogenic corners.

We dedicate the evening to taste and lightness: a free dinner based on fresh fish, typical dishes and maybe a cocktail with a sea view to toast the sweet Balkan life.

A day of relaxation

Breakfast with a view and off we go, today we go at a slow pace! We have a day all to ourselves, perfect for recharging our batteries and experiencing Budva at our own pace. We can relax on one of the beautiful beaches along the coast, enjoying the crystal clear sea and the Mediterranean atmosphere, or, for those who want a bit of adventure, we can go as far as the impressive Kotor, a fortified city overlooking the bay, with ancient walls, romantic squares and a breathtaking view.

And to make the day even more special, we can take a short boat trip to Our Lady of the Rocks, the iconic islet that houses a sanctuary full of history and legend, immersed in the calm waters of the bay.

In the afternoon, you can't miss a picture-postcard sunset over the sea, one of those moments to be experienced slowly, maybe a glass in hand.

Back to Tirana: last evening together

And now we go back to where it all began: Tirana! After a relaxing morning on the beaches of Montenegro, we get back on the road, crossing the border and returning to Albania, with our backpacks a little fuller… of epic memories! Once we arrive in Tirana, we check in and still have some time to immerse ourselves in the vibrant soul of the capital. We can get lost in its lively streets, discover unexpected corners and breathe in its unique energy, among colourful buildings, street art and cafes always full of life.

For those who want to delve deeper into the country's recent history, there is the possibility of visiting Bunk Art 2, a fascinating underground museum that tells the story of Albania during the communist period: an intense and extraordinary experience. We end the evening in style: a final dinner all together, with typical dishes, laughter and toasts. It is the perfect moment to relive all the moments experienced, from the adventures in the Balkans to the new friendships born along the way.

Check out and goodbyes

It's already time to say goodbye. We will miss the Balkans and we will also miss our fellow adventurers! See you on the next WeRoad!
