Itinerary
Get ready for the ultimate Southeast Asian road trip! This isn't just a holiday; it’s a high-energy journey across three of the most diverse countries on the continent. We start in the chaotic and electrifying streets of Bangkok, where tuk-tuks zip past ancient golden temples. From there, we fly south to the paradise island of Phuket, jumping on speedboats to swim in the crystal-clear waters of Maya Bay and the Phi Phi Islands.
But the adventure doesn't stop at the beach! We’ll cross borders into Malaysia to hunt for street art in Penang and cool off in the lush green tea plantations of the Cameron Highlands. We’ll climb the rainbow steps of Batu Caves in Kuala Lumpur before finishing our epic run in the futuristic garden city of Singapore. From eating Pad Thai on plastic stools to sipping cocktails atop skyscrapers, this itinerary has it all. Pack your backpack and bring your appetite—Asia is calling!

Sawasdee Bangkok!
1 night: Bangkok
Touchdown in the City of Angels
Touchdown in Thailand! Today we arrive in the buzzing capital of Bangkok. Whether you land early to fight off jet lag with a Thai massage or arrive just in time for the fun, the energy here is contagious. We will meet our Travel Coordinator and fellow travellers at our hotel before heading straight to the legendary Khao San Road. It’s loud, it’s crazy, and it’s the perfect place for our Welcome Dinner of street food and cold Chang beers. Let the adventure begin!
The Golden Temples
1 night: Bangkok
Buddhas, Palaces & River Views
Wake up early—we have culture to soak up! Today is dedicated to the most iconic sights of the city. We’ll be dazzled by the intricate gold details of the Grand Palace and the Emerald Buddha at Wat Phra Kaew. We’ll stand in awe of the massive Reclining Buddha at Wat Pho and ferry across the river to climb the stunning prang of Wat Arun. It’s a day of incredible photo ops and deep diving into Thai history with the group.
South to the Sea
1 night: Phuket
Flying to the Pearl of the Andaman
Goodbye concrete jungle, hello paradise! We are skipping the long bus ride and taking a short flight straight down to Phuket. After checking into our hotel, the afternoon is ours. You can hit the famous Patong Beach for your first dip in the Andaman Sea or explore the markets. In the evening, the neon lights of Bangla Road await. Whether you want to dance or just people-watch with a bucket drink, it’s a night to remember!
The Beach Paradise
1 night: Phuket
Speedboat Adventure to Maya Bay & Phi Phi
Put on your swimwear and sunscreen—today is a highlight! We’re boarding a speedboat for a tour of the Phi Phi Islands. We’ll cruise past the Viking Cave, snorkel in emerald waters, and swim in the breathtaking Pileh Lagoon. The cherry on top? Stepping foot on the world-famous sands of Maya Bay, the filming location of "The Beach". It’s pure tropical bliss, and we’ll enjoy a picnic lunch on the islands before speeding back at sunset.
Phuket Your Way
1 night: Phuket
Big Buddhas or Beach Clubs
Today is a free day to explore the island at your own pace! You might choose to join the group to visit the massive white marble Big Buddha on the hill for panoramic views, or perhaps visit an ethical elephant sanctuary to see these gentle giants. Alternatively, just grab a coconut and chill on Karon Beach. In the evening, we’ll regroup for a delicious seafood dinner and swap stories of our day in paradise.
Welcome to Malaysia
1 night: Penang
Touchdown in the Food Capital
We’re on the move again! We head to the airport for a quick flight across the border into Malaysia, landing on the island of Penang. Our destination is George Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site and arguably the street food capital of Southeast Asia. After checking in, we’ll head straight to a "Hawker Centre" (food court) where our Coordinator will encourage us to try Char Kway Teow or Laksa. Your tastebuds will thank you!
Art & Flavours
1 night: Penang
Exploring the Heritage of George Town
Get your cameras ready. George Town is an open-air museum. We’ll spend the day wandering the colonial streets hunting for the famous interactive street art murals. We’ll walk along the historic Clan Jetties—wooden houses built on stilts over the water—and visit the colourful Peranakan Mansion. The vibe here is laid-back and artistic. Tonight, we can dive into Little India for a completely different flavour profile and vibrant atmosphere.
Into the Highlands
1 night: Cameron Highlands
Tea Plantations and Cool Breezes
Time to cool down! We board our bus and climb up winding roads into the Cameron Highlands. The temperature drops, the air gets crisp, and the scenery shifts from jungle to rolling green hills. It feels like a different world here. We’ll check into our mountain lodge and enjoy the fresh air. For dinner, it’s tradition to have a "Steamboat" (hot pot)—perfect for the cooler mountain weather and a great bonding experience for the group.
The Emerald Hills to the Capital
1 night: Kuala Lumpur
Mossy Forests to Petronas Towers
We start the morning with a 4x4 tour into the enchanting Mossy Forest, which looks like something out of Lord of the Rings, followed by a visit to the stunning BOH Tea Plantations for a cup of local tea with a view. In the afternoon, we descend from the mountains and head to the bustling capital, Kuala Lumpur. By evening, we’ll be staring up at the glittering Petronas Towers, ready to take on the big city!
Rainbow Steps & Skyscrapers
1 night: Kuala Lumpur
Batu Caves & Kuala Lumpur Vibes
We kick off the day at one of Malaysia’s most iconic sights: the Batu Caves. We’ll climb the 272 colourful steps past mischievous monkeys to reach the massive limestone temple at the top. The rest of the day is free to explore KL’s contrasts—from the botanical gardens to the shopping malls of Bukit Bintang. Tonight, we’ll hit Jalan Alor, the famous food street, to feast on satay and stingray under the red lanterns.
The Historic Port
1 night: Melaka
Colonial Charms of Melaka
A short bus ride takes us to Melaka, a historic port city with Portuguese, Dutch, and British roots. The pace here is slower and more romantic. We’ll take a relaxing cruise down the Melaka River to see the murals and bridges from the water. We’ll wander through Jonker Street, checking out antique shops and tasting Cendol (a sweet icy dessert). It’s the perfect cultural stop before we hit the modern finale of our trip.
The Lion City
1 night: Singapore
Crossing into Futuristic Singapore
It’s our final border crossing! We hop on the bus and head south into Singapore. Watch as the landscape changes into perfectly manicured tropical gardens and futuristic architecture. After checking into our hotel, we’ll head out to marvel at the clean streets and efficient metro system. We’ll grab dinner at a hawker centre—Singapore’s Michelin-star-worthy street food scene—and maybe catch the light and water show at Marina Bay Sands.
Gardens of the Future
1 night: Singapore
Supertrees and Farewell Dinner
For our last full day, we are diving into the future. We have tickets included to the Gardens by the Bay, where we’ll explore the incredible Cloud Forest and Flower Dome. We’ll walk beneath the alien-like Supertrees and soak in the skyline. As the sun sets on our epic adventure, we’ll gather for our Farewell Dinner. It’s time to toast to new friends, three countries stamped in our passports, and unforgettable memories!
See you next time!
Goodbye Southeast Asia
It’s time to say goodbye. After one last breakfast (maybe Kaya toast and coffee?), we check out and head to Changi Airport—which is an attraction in itself! Whether you are flying home or continuing your travels, you’ll be leaving with a phone full of photos and a group of friends for life. Safe travels and see you on the next WeRoad adventure!

About Thailand
If you are a UK citizen, to find out the entry requirements for Thailand, you can check this informational page from our partner Sherpa. If you need a visa, you can apply for it through Sherpa. If you are not a UK citizen, you can still use Sherpa by changing the nationality in the 'Passport' section.
Before traveling, always remember to check the government website of your country of origin for updates on the entry requirements for Thailand – you wouldn’t want to stay home due to a bureaucratic detail!
- UK residents: review the FCDO Travel Advice.
- US residents: consult the US Department of State Travel Advice.
- Other residents: refer to your government or local consulate's travel advice.
Thailand is in the Indochina Time zone, which is GMT+7. This means there is no daylight saving time.
If it is 12pm in the UK, it will be 7pm in Thailand.
Thailand uses the Thai Baht (THB). As of the most recent rates:
- 1 GBP is approximately 43 THB
- 1 USD is roughly 35 THB
- 1 EUR is about 38 THB
You can exchange your currency at banks, exchange counters at airports, and major tourist areas. Always check for the latest exchange rates before you go.
In Thailand, you can pay using cash, credit cards, or mobile payment apps. Credit cards like Visa and MasterCard are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, and larger stores. However, for smaller shops, street vendors, and local markets, you'll need cash.
It's a good idea to have a mix of payment options. You can withdraw Thai Baht from ATMs, which are plentiful in cities and towns. Make sure to notify your bank about your travel plans to avoid any issues with your card.
Tipping in Thailand is not mandatory, but it's appreciated for good service. In restaurants, you can leave any loose change or round up the bill. For porters or hotel staff, a small tip of 20-50 baht is a nice gesture. Taxis do not require a tip, but rounding up to the nearest 10 baht is common practice. Remember, tipping is at your discretion and based on the level of service you received.
In Thailand, the internet connection is generally good, with Wi-Fi widely available in hotels, cafes, and restaurants, especially in urban areas like Bangkok and Chiang Mai. However, for more reliable and on-the-go access, it's a good idea to buy a local SIM card or an e-SIM data plan. You can find SIM cards from providers like AIS, DTAC, or TrueMove at the airport and convenience stores. They offer affordable data packages, making it easy to stay connected while exploring the country.
In Thailand, the official language is Thai. Here are a few useful Thai expressions you might hear or want to use:
- Hello: Sawasdee (สวัสดี)
- Thank you: Khop khun (ขอบคุณ)
- Yes: Chai (ใช่)
- No: Mai chai (ไม่ใช่)
- How much?: Tao rai? (เท่าไหร่?)
Knowing a few phrases can really enhance your experience in Thailand!
In Thailand, the plugs used are Type A, B, and C. The voltage is 220 volts, and the frequency is 50 Hz. If you're coming from a country with different plug types, like the UK or the USA, you'll need a universal adapter to fit these sockets. This ensures your devices can be safely charged without any issues. Make sure your electronics can handle the 220 volts or get a voltage converter.
The main religion in Thailand is Buddhism, with about 95% of the population being Theravada Buddhists. You’ll find many beautiful temples and Buddhist practices integrated into daily life. Important religious holidays include:
- Makha Bucha
- Visakha Bucha
- Asalha Bucha
When visiting temples or participating in religious events, it's respectful to dress modestly. For women, this means covering shoulders and knees.
Packing for Thailand is exciting, as you'll be exploring a beautiful and diverse country.
Here's a handy list of what to put in your backpack:
-
Clothing:
- Lightweight t-shirts and tank tops
- Shorts and skirts
- Lightweight pants or long skirts for temples
- A light jacket or sweater for cooler evenings

- Comfortable walking shoes or sandals
- Flip-flops for the beach and showers

- Universal adapter -
Toiletries and Medication:

Thailand's climate is tropical, so lightweight fabrics are your best friend. Remember to dress modestly when visiting temples, covering shoulders and knees.
Thailand's weather is generally tropical, with three main seasons: hot, rainy, and cool. Here's a breakdown by region:
- Bangkok and Central Thailand: Hot season from March to June, with temperatures reaching up to 40°C. Rainy from July to October, and cooler from November to February with temperatures around 20-30°C.
- Northern Thailand: Cooler from November to February, pleasant for trekking. Hot from March to May, and rainy season from June to October.
- Southern Thailand: More consistent temperatures year-round. The west coast is wettest from April to October, while the east coast experiences rain from September to December.
The best time to visit is generally between November and February when the weather is cooler and less humid.
About WeRoad
Return international flights are not included on our trips because we want to give you full autonomy and flexibility. You can choose your preferred airline, fly from the airport that works best for you, and decide how many stopovers you want to make along the way.
As flights are not included, you also have more flexibility with your travel dates: you could arrive at your destination a few days early or return home a bit later – or even continue independently to a nearby destination!
An "Available" departure means that the trip isn’t confirmed yet and we’re waiting for a few more travellers to sign up… which could be you!
If you book the trip please wait for it to be confirmed before booking your international flights.
The question of all questions! Here’s some more information:
- The Money Pot is a common fund collected in local currency from all travellers on the trip and managed by your Travel Coordinator.
- It is used to streamline payments for extra activities, goods and services that the whole group decides to do. This guarantees flexibility in choosing activities and excursions at the destination in line with the mood of the group.
- It is typically collected on the first day of the trip in local currency, although at times, the Travel Coordinator may ask for it to be paid before departure.
- You’ll find the Money Pot amount on the website under the section ‘What’s included in the Money Pot’. To find this look for ‘What’s included’, scroll down to ‘Money Pot? Click here’ and you’ll find the details.
- The amount varies depending on the destination chosen.
- It is usually used for group expenses that all travellers decide to take part in, but sometimes if you opt out of an activity it might make more sense for it to come out of the Money Pot. In these cases the Coordinator will return the amount for this activity back to you at the end of the trip.
- It is estimated based on the experience of other groups but can vary depending on what activities your group is keen for. As such, the Travel Coordinator may need to increase the amount during the trip.
- If not all of the Money Pot is spent, the difference will be returned to all travellers at the end of the trip.
- The Money Pot also covers the Travel Coordinator’s share of the activities included in the Money Pot, except for those activities that are free for the Travel Coordinator.
- If you pay in advance for part of the Money Pot before the trip for certain non-refundable optional activities, unfortunately, the amount cannot be refunded if the trip is cancelled.
We offer several payment methods to fit every need:
1. Credit or debit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express);
2. Instalment payment with Klarna (you’ll pay for the trip in three equal amounts);
3. PayPal (for selected destinations);
4. Revolut Pay to pay even faster straight from your Revolut account.
Anyone who books a WeRoad trip has the option to cancel or modify the trip – including both the dates and the destination – free of charge up to 31 days before departure. In case of cancellation up to 31 days before departure, you will receive a 100% refund of the WeRoad trip price. If you make a change, a price adjustment will be applied to the new trip chosen – meaning, if the new trip is cheaper, we will refund the difference; if it’s more expensive, you will need to pay the difference.
If you’ve purchased the Flexible Cancellation Option (which you can add in the first step of the booking process), you can request a cancellation or trip change until 8 days before departure. In case of cancellation, you’ll receive a 100% refund of the WeRoad trip price, minus the cost of the Flexible Cancellation option.
How to request a cancellation or change to your trip? Send us an email at [email protected] or a WhatsApp on +447716573700. Please share the booking reference for the trip you want to cancel or change, and, in case of a change, the new trip you would like to join.
For our trips we usually use locally owned accommodation instead of big hotel chains. It’s our favourite way to really experience the local culture and, whenever we can, support the local economy. Typically, you’ll stay in hotels, apartments, guesthouses and hostels with the same standard maintained across all trips in the same destination.
The list of accommodation for your trip will be shared with you by your Travel Coordinator 2-5 days before departure, along with other useful details for your adventure!
Yes! We might not know the flights for everyone else in the group, but there are ways to find out which flights your fellow WeRoaders will be taking.
1. All travellers can share their flight details after booking on their My WeRoad account so that other travellers on the same trip can see these details anonymously.
2. Alternatively you can join our Facebook group: Solo Travellers | WeRoad Community – (here is the extended link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/963298767843213 ) Look for a post about the trip you’re interested in or ask the group admin for help in getting in touch with your future travel companions!
3. If the Coordinator has already been assigned to the trip you’re keen for, you can easily find their Facebook post on the website. Click 'Ask the Coordinator' and follow the link here.
Our groups usually consist of 8–12 travellers, with a minimum of 3–4 and a maximum of 15.
Everyone on our trips speaks English, and travellers join us from across the UK, Europe and beyond. Our trips are open to people in their 20s, 30s and 40s, with an average age of 34 across all trips.
Each group will be joined and led by one of our experienced Travel Coordinators, who’s there to ensure everything runs smoothly and the group feels well-supported.
If you’d like to know more about our typical WeRoad groups do reach out to us on WhatsApp on +44 7716573700.
Yes! If you're curious, you can take a sneak peek at the group before booking.
You’ll find the info in the ‘Group’ section for each trip on the departures page, showing how many WeRoaders have already booked.
Click the little arrow and you’ll even see their gender and ages – but hey, that’s exclusive info, so we’ll ask you to log in or sign up to see that!
For some trips, in the itinerary section, you’ll find the number of nights and the location (not the hotel) where you’ll be spending the night(s). The location shown is the one we usually go for on most trips, but in some cases, you might stay in a nearby town. This will depend on logistics or availability of accommodation.
The list of accommodation for your trip (and therefore also the exact locations) will be shared by your Travel Coordinator 2-5 days before departure, along with other useful information for your adventure!
The WeRoad Travel Coordinator is an experienced and skilled traveller who will be the perfect companion for your trip. They will manage all the logistical aspects of the itinerary like transport, timings, accommodation, restaurant bookings and meeting points, so that you can enjoy the trip without this hassle. They’re there to support the group, ensure everything runs smoothly and will no doubt make the trip a lot of fun along the way too!
The Coordinator will set up a WhatsApp group approximately 2 weeks before departure. This will be the moment to ask any pre-departure questions and get to know the rest of the group! If the trip you are interested in already has a Travel Coordinator assigned, you can contact them before booking. Their details will be on the trip page, or you can search for their name here. After booking, you will find their contact details in your My WeRoad account, under ‘Bookings and Trips’ > ‘Your Upcoming Trips’ > ‘Trip Details’.
Yes, on all our trips you will share a room with other WeRoaders in your group. By default this will be people of the same gender, unless you tick ‘I'm OK with a mixed gender room’ when you book. The bathroom will either be private or shared only with other travellers on the trip. The rooms might be twins, triples, quadruples or multi-share (up to 8 people in exceptional cases), depending on the destination and availability.
You will never share with people from outside of the WeRoad group, except in certain cases for local experiences, which are specifically mentioned in the itinerary or communicated before booking. These typically involve specific nights in unique accommodation like tents, homestays, or camping, offering a more adventurous travel experience in exchange for some comfort.
On some of our trips we can offer a private room for an additional cost. Just tick the ‘Private Room’ option at checkout to get this added. For some of our trips if you book as two travellers together you can add this private room free of charge. Look out for this option at checkout.
Please note that if you do book a private room with a friend/partner this could be either a double or a twin room so please email [email protected] if you have a preference on this.
When you set off on a WeRoad trip, you’re officially a WeRoader – and as we often say, 'once a WeRoader, always a WeRoader'. This means that once you’re part of the community, a little piece of WeRoad will always stay with you.
But you’re not just a WeRoader during your trips, far from it! The community is alive and active all year round: you can stay in touch by following and interacting on our social media channels, like the Facebook group or the Instagram profile. You can also come along to one of our many events that we run in different cities worldwide. Check out and sign up to our events by downloading the WeMeet app here.
