Are you ready to discover Indonesia? See you in Jakarta!

Welcome to Indonesia!
1 night: Jakarta
Check-in: our adventure begins in Jakarta
Roundtrip flights or transportation to reach the destination are not included in the package, so you can decide from where and when you want to leave! This gives you complete freedom of choice to adjust your travel itinerary to your needs.
Hotel check-in in Jakarta. Time to start this trip right: time for food! We'll be able to try out some specialties of the local cuisine. The best way to get to know each other and get ready to experience an amazing adventure.

Java: Yogyakarta and the Borobudur temple
1 night: Yogyakarta
Discover Yogykarta
We are heading to our first stop, Yogyakarta. This morning the first transfer awaits us: we reach the central part of the island of Java with an internal flight. One thing is certain: once we arrive in the accommodation we’ll be ready to kick off our adventure among the Indonesian islands!
Prambanan and Borobudur
The first stop is Prambanan, a Hindu temple complex that stretches for miles - it takes a while to explore it completely but it’s worth it! Let’s get ready to visit the complex up to the Shiva temple, the greatest Hindu monument in Indonesia. Brahma temple and Vishnu temple to follow - they are a must too. Not too far away from Prambanan, we’ll be able to see the magnificent Borobudur, the world's largest Buddhist temple. Built-in the 9th century, the ancient site is one of Indonesia and the world’s most valuable treasures. In the 1970’s Borobudur became a UNESCO World Heritage site.

On the road in East Java
1 night: Mount Bromo
On the road
Rise and shine dear WeRoaders: we have some traveling to do! We get in our minivan to reach Mount Bromo. Tomorrow we'll be mesmerized by one of the most wonderful sunrises you’ve ever seen, we promise. We stop for a lunch break along the way to grab a quick bite and stretch our legs! We then continue the drive until we arrive at our accommodation near Mount Bromo. Here we have a nice dinner but don’t forget to go to bed early: the alarm is set for 2 in the morning - yes, you read that right ... but hey, it’ll be worth it!

Enjoy a breathtaking sunrise on Mount Bromo
1 night: Banyuwangi
Sunrise on the volcano
Get up, sleepyheads! I know, the alarm goes off at 2am and we don't have much time to stay under the covers. So let’s put on some warm clothes (you know, it’s quite cold) and we are ready to go. We get in a jeep that will take us almost to the top of the mountain in less than 30 minutes. We have more or less half an hour of easy walking ahead - and guess what? The sun is rising - we will admire Mount Bromo slowly lighting up...it's a a jaw-dropping view! Let’s fully experience this magic moment in contact with nature. We then return to our base camp with our eyes still lit up by this incredible sunrise. Now it’s time for our next stop, Banyuwangi. Are we tired from this morning's wake up call? It’s all set: we have plenty of time to rest during the transfer! We’re sure you want to take advantage of it because we’ll have another early alarm - but again, it will be worth it!

Bali: discovering a new island
1 night: Ubud
Kawah Ijen
Another early wake up call to to climb the Ijen volcano. This place is famous for two unique peculiarities: here is the largest acid lake in the world and the blue will-o'-the-wisps! Getting to the top of the volcano is not difficult but the second part of the route becomes much more demanding. At this point, we can venture down into the crater to reach the acid lake and admire the surreal wisps of blue flame far below and the sulphurous fumes rising from the depths of the volcano. Just be careful - as we go down the path is not so visible because of lake gases. We’ll wear masks but don’t worry...if you believe this is too difficult we have good news for you: the descent is optional. However, if we are brave enough to go into the heart of the volcano we’ll be rewarded: the dawn here has a completely different colour!
Arriving in Bali
Now that we are back to the starting point, we can take our backpacks and set off to Bali. What are we waiting for? We first take a minivan and then jump on a ferry towards the most famous Indonesian island! After regaining some strength, we can decide how to spend our morning: do we want to visit the famous Ulun Danu Beratan temple, or do we feel like going on a swim in the Git Git waterfalls? One thing is certain: we’ll arrive in Ubud in the evening, where we can begin to relax…maybe with a nice massage!

Ubud: Monkey Forest
1 night: Ubud
Sacred Monkey Forest
We’ll visit a rainforest oasis on the edge of Ubud this morning. We’ll be fascinated by the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary - such a wonderful and bizarre temple for the statues of animals and mythological creatures we’ll have the chance to see.
Relaxing afternoon
We spend the rest of the day relaxing. Ubud is one of the world capitals for yoga and spirituality, so what better place than this to take a class or enjoying a cooking class? Or we can take a walk among the rice fields: if you aren’t too tired of moving around, the surroundings of the city are full of forests, temples, and waterfalls!

From Ubud to Kuta: a relaxing day!
1 night: Seminyak
Bali Beach Club
Today's all about chilling and exploring. Our own beach club perks include drinks, snacks, and towels - no stress! Balinese beaches rock for their nightlife, but hey, we call the shots today. Fancy yoga? Temple hopping? Or finding that Insta-worthy spot? We've got time! Later, we roll into Seminyak by private van, getting ready for a wild night. Ready to kick off this trip with a bang?

Kuta, between beach life and nightlife
1 night: Seminyak
Surf and sunset
Welcome to Kuta! We are in this little surfer’s paradise, let's put our swimsuit on and surf the waves! Here it won’t be too difficult even if we are just starting out surfing for the very first time. If we don’t feel like surfing, we can take it easy. We can spend the day relaxing on the beach until sunset - the best time to enjoy a nice cocktail overlooking the wonderful sea on comfy beanbags. Let’s get started with a few Balinese cocktails (we suggest the typical Arak) and then let's cut some shapes!

Sea, relax and trekking: time to visit the Gili Islands
1 night: Gili Trawangan
Paradise on earth
After three days in Bali we are ready to go: today we take some transfers to finally reach the archipelago of the Gili Islands. If you wonder what a paradise on earth looks like, here we are! No picture will be able to catch the incredible beauty of the infinite white beaches and bright blue waters. We get to the Gili Islands, we can decide what to do: do we want to enjoy the sun and relax on the beach all day, or are we feeling adventurous and ready for snorkeling or scuba diving? Or are we ready for a trek in the jungle? We'll be at the beach till late where we’ll see a different side of the Gili Islands: here the chiringuitos invite us to enjoy some cocktails and dance barefoot on the sand all night long. Cheers!

Gili Islands: time to discover the coral reefs of Trawangan
1 night: Gili Trawangan
Relax and fun
It’s time to enjoy the beautiful Gilis today: three small islands that attract travellers from all over the world for their immense beauty. Let’s explore the paradisiac tropical coral reefs in Gili Trawangan. If you're looking for something even more unique, be sure to make your way to Gili Meno. Here you can have a swim among the beautiful underwater sculptures and take the most epic travel photos - we are sure you won’t regret it!So why don’t we spend the rest of the day on the beach relaxing and enjoying this peaceful place?

A day in Lombok: time to enjoy Sengiggi beach one last time
1 night: Lombok
Last day on the beach
That’s the last day on the beach between Gili and Lombok - so let’s make the best of it! Luckily we still have time to appreciate the beauty of the Gilis in the morning. So why not swimming one last time in these wonderful crystal clear waters? We’ll move to Lombok in the afternoon where we’ll enjoy the rest of the day on a beach just off the tourist trails. Here we’ll experience the very essence of this new island and fully experience silence and relaxation. We'll be at the beach until late so that we can enjoy our last sunset on Sengiggi beach!

Back to Jakarta
1 night: Jakarta
The capital
Today we fly back to Jakarta and try not to think too much the wonderful ocean we left behind. Today we can have a relaxing afternoon in the hotel or we can spend some time exploring the capital. This is always a great chance to visit the city highlights and buy some souvenirs to take home. So here we are, at the end of our trip: tonight we share our favourite memories over the last 12 days!

About Indonesia
If you are a UK citizen, to find out the entry requirements for Indonesia, you can check this informational page from our partner Sherpa. If you need a visa, you can apply for it through Sherpa. If you are not a UK citizen, you can still use Sherpa by changing the nationality in the 'Passport' section.
Before traveling, always remember to check the government website of your country of origin for updates on the entry requirements for Indonesia – you wouldn’t want to stay home due to a bureaucratic detail!
- UK residents: review the FCDO Travel Advice.
- US residents: consult the US Department of State Travel Advice.
- Other residents: refer to your government or local consulate's travel advice.
Indonesia spans three time zones:
- Western Indonesia Time (WIB) is UTC+7
- Central Indonesia Time (WITA) is UTC+8
- Eastern Indonesia Time (WIT) is UTC+9
So, if it's 12 pm in Central European Time, it will be:
- 6 pm in WIB
- 7 pm in WITA
- 8 pm in WIT
Just remember, Indonesia does not observe daylight saving time, so these time differences remain consistent throughout the year.
The currency in Indonesia is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). You can easily exchange your money at banks or authorized money changers in major cities. Keep an eye out for official exchange booths to ensure you get a fair rate.
In Indonesia, you can pay using credit and debit cards in major cities and tourist areas, but cash is often preferred in smaller towns or rural areas. ATMs are widely available for withdrawing cash. Mobile payment options like GoPay and OVO are also popular. It's always a good idea to have some Indonesian Rupiah on hand for small purchases or in areas where card payments are not accepted.
Tipping in Indonesia is appreciated but not mandatory. In restaurants, a service charge is often included in the bill, but if it is not, leaving a tip of 5 to 10 percent is a nice gesture. Hotel staff, taxi drivers, and tour guides also appreciate small tips. Keep some small bills handy for these occasions, as they are most convenient for tipping.
In Indonesia, you'll find that internet access can vary greatly depending on where you are. In major cities like Jakarta, Bali, and Surabaya, you'll have access to decent Wi-Fi in most hotels, cafes, and restaurants. However, in rural areas, internet connectivity may not be as reliable.
We recommend you get a local SIM card for better connectivity, especially if you plan to explore beyond the cities. SIM cards are affordable and can be purchased at the airport or convenience stores. Look for providers like Telkomsel or XL for good coverage.
In Indonesia, the official language is Indonesian. It's widely used across the country, though you'll find many local languages and dialects too. Here are a few useful Indonesian phrases you might hear or want to use:
- Hello: Halo
- Thank you: Terima kasih
- Please: Tolong
- Yes: Ya
- No: Tidak
These handy phrases will help you connect with locals during your travels!
In Indonesia, they use Type C and Type F plugs, which are the same as in many Central European countries. These plugs have two round pins. The voltage is 230V, and the frequency is 50Hz. If your devices are compatible with this voltage, you will only need an adapter. However, if your devices are not dual voltage (check the label on your device), you might need a voltage converter. Always double-check your devices before traveling to avoid any issues.
The main religion in Indonesia is Islam. Most Indonesians are Muslim, and you will find mosques throughout the country. If you are planning to visit, it's respectful to dress modestly, especially important for women who should consider covering their shoulders and knees.
Remember that during the holy month of Ramadan, many Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset. Also, be aware of important religious holidays like Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, and Eid al-Adha, known as the Festival of Sacrifice.
When packing for Indonesia, consider its tropical climate and diverse landscapes.

- Sumatra: Wet and humid, with heavy rainfall from October to April. Dryer months are usually May to September.

About WeRoad
Return international flights are not included on our trips because we want to give you full autonomy and flexibility. You can choose your preferred airline, fly from the airport that works best for you, and decide how many stopovers you want to make along the way.
As flights are not included, you also have more flexibility with your travel dates: you could arrive at your destination a few days early or return home a bit later – or even continue independently to a nearby destination!
An "Available" departure means that the trip isn’t confirmed yet and we’re waiting for a few more travellers to sign up… which could be you!
If you book the trip please wait for it to be confirmed before booking your international flights.
The question of all questions! Here’s some more information:
- The Money Pot is a common fund collected in local currency from all travellers on the trip and managed by your Travel Coordinator.
- It is used to streamline payments for extra activities, goods and services that the whole group decides to do. This guarantees flexibility in choosing activities and excursions at the destination in line with the mood of the group.
- It is typically collected on the first day of the trip in local currency, although at times, the Travel Coordinator may ask for it to be paid before departure.
- You’ll find the Money Pot amount on the website under the section ‘What’s included in the Money Pot’. To find this look for ‘What’s included’, scroll down to ‘Money Pot? Click here’ and you’ll find the details.
- The amount varies depending on the destination chosen.
- It is usually used for group expenses that all travellers decide to take part in, but sometimes if you opt out of an activity it might make more sense for it to come out of the Money Pot. In these cases the Coordinator will return the amount for this activity back to you at the end of the trip.
- It is estimated based on the experience of other groups but can vary depending on what activities your group is keen for. As such, the Travel Coordinator may need to increase the amount during the trip.
- If not all of the Money Pot is spent, the difference will be returned to all travellers at the end of the trip.
- The Money Pot also covers the Travel Coordinator’s share of the activities included in the Money Pot, except for those activities that are free for the Travel Coordinator.
- If you pay in advance for part of the Money Pot before the trip for certain non-refundable optional activities, unfortunately, the amount cannot be refunded if the trip is cancelled.
We offer several payment methods to fit every need:
1. Credit or debit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express);
2. Instalment payment with Klarna (you’ll pay for the trip in three equal amounts);
3. PayPal (for selected destinations);
4. Revolut Pay to pay even faster straight from your Revolut account.
Anyone who books a WeRoad trip has the option to cancel or modify the trip – including both the dates and the destination – free of charge up to 31 days before departure. In case of cancellation up to 31 days before departure, you will receive a 100% refund of the WeRoad trip price. If you make a change, a price adjustment will be applied to the new trip chosen – meaning, if the new trip is cheaper, we will refund the difference; if it’s more expensive, you will need to pay the difference.
If you’ve purchased the Flexible Cancellation Option (which you can add in the first step of the booking process), you can request a cancellation or trip change until 8 days before departure. In case of cancellation, you’ll receive a 100% refund of the WeRoad trip price, minus the cost of the Flexible Cancellation option.
How to request a cancellation or change to your trip? Send us an email at [email protected] or a WhatsApp on +447716573700. Please share the booking reference for the trip you want to cancel or change, and, in case of a change, the new trip you would like to join.
For our trips we usually use locally owned accommodation instead of big hotel chains. It’s our favourite way to really experience the local culture and, whenever we can, support the local economy. Typically, you’ll stay in hotels, apartments, guesthouses and hostels with the same standard maintained across all trips in the same destination.
The list of accommodation for your trip will be shared with you by your Travel Coordinator 2-5 days before departure, along with other useful details for your adventure!
Yes! We might not know the flights for everyone else in the group, but there are ways to find out which flights your fellow WeRoaders will be taking.
1. All travellers can share their flight details after booking on their My WeRoad account so that other travellers on the same trip can see these details anonymously.
2. Alternatively you can join our Facebook group: Solo Travellers | WeRoad Community – (here is the extended link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/963298767843213 ) Look for a post about the trip you’re interested in or ask the group admin for help in getting in touch with your future travel companions!
3. If the Coordinator has already been assigned to the trip you’re keen for, you can easily find their Facebook post on the website. Click 'Ask the Coordinator' and follow the link here.
Our groups usually consist of 8–12 travellers, with a minimum of 3–4 and a maximum of 15.
Everyone on our trips speaks English, and travellers join us from across the UK, Europe and beyond. Our trips are open to people in their 20s, 30s, and 40s, with an average age of 34 across all trips.
Each group will be joined and led by one of our experienced Travel Coordinators, who’s there to ensure everything runs smoothly and the group feels well-supported.
If you’d like to know more about our typical WeRoad groups do reach out to us on WhatsApp on +44 7716573700.
Yes! If you're curious, you can take a sneak peek at the group before booking.
You’ll find the info in the ‘Group’ section for each trip on the departures page, showing how many WeRoaders have already booked.
Click the little arrow and you’ll even see their gender and ages – but hey, that’s exclusive info, so we’ll ask you to log in or sign up to see that!
For some trips, in the itinerary section, you’ll find the number of nights and the location (not the hotel) where you’ll be spending the night(s). The location shown is the one we usually go for on most trips, but in some cases, you might stay in a nearby town. This will depend on logistics or availability of accommodation.
The list of accommodation for your trip (and therefore also the exact locations) will be shared by your Travel Coordinator 2-5 days before departure, along with other useful information for your adventure!
The WeRoad Travel Coordinator is an experienced and skilled traveller who will be the perfect companion for your trip. They will manage all the logistical aspects of the itinerary like transport, timings, accommodation, restaurant bookings and meeting points, so that you can enjoy the trip without this hassle. They’re there to support the group, ensure everything runs smoothly and will no doubt make the trip a lot of fun along the way too!
The Coordinator will set up a WhatsApp group approximately 2 weeks before departure. This will be the moment to ask any pre-departure questions and get to know the rest of the group! If the trip you are interested in already has a Travel Coordinator assigned, you can contact them before booking. Their details will be on the trip page, or you can search for their name here. After booking, you will find their contact details in your My WeRoad account, under ‘Bookings and Trips’ > ‘Your Upcoming Trips’ > ‘Trip Details’.
Yes, on all our trips you will share a room with other WeRoaders in your group. By default this will be people of the same gender, unless you tick ‘I'm OK with a mixed gender room’ when you book. The bathroom will either be private or shared only with other travellers on the trip. The rooms might be twins, triples, quadruples or multi-share (up to 8 people in exceptional cases), depending on the destination and availability.
You will never share with people from outside of the WeRoad group, except in certain cases for local experiences, which are specifically mentioned in the itinerary or communicated before booking. These typically involve specific nights in unique accommodation like tents, homestays, or camping, offering a more adventurous travel experience in exchange for some comfort.
On some of our trips we can offer a private room for an additional cost. Just tick the ‘Private Room’ option at checkout to get this added. For some of our trips if you book as two travellers together you can add this private room free of charge. Look out for this option at checkout.
Please note that if you do book a private room with a friend/partner this could be either a double or a twin room so please email [email protected] if you have a preference on this.
When you set off on a WeRoad trip, you’re officially a WeRoader – and as we often say, 'once a WeRoader, always a WeRoader'. This means that once you’re part of the community, a little piece of WeRoad will always stay with you.
But you’re not just a WeRoader during your trips, far from it! The community is alive and active all year round: you can stay in touch by following and interacting on our social media channels, like the Facebook group or the Instagram profile. You can also come along to one of our many events that we run in different cities worldwide. Check out and sign up to our events by downloading the WeMeet app here.
