Itinerary
Travelling before the 1st May 2026? Please check the Additional info further down the page!
We start our adventure in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. You might wonder why our arrival point is so far from Lapland? Well, Stockholm is much easier to get to from the UK and this way we get to experience a beautiful night train (a unique experience in itself!) that allows us to travel through the country without losing time!
We will wake up directly in Kiruna, the country's northernmost town, in the heart of Lapland. Our objective: admire and photograph the incredible Northern Lights! The conditions here are perfect. We are beyond the Arctic Circle and the light pollution present in the big cities we live in is not a problem here. In winter here there are almost 24 hours of complete darkness! There will be no getting bored though, because we can also try out dog sledding, cross-country skiing, and/or just relax in a sauna. Pack something warm and get ready to go!

Welcome to Sweden
Venice of the North
Roundtrip flights are not included in the package, so you can choose from where and when you want to fly. We have arrived in the "Venice of the North". Stockholm is located on an archipelago of 14 islands, all connected by bridges. Time to break the ice with our first dinner together, made up of some local specialities. There is no shortage of fresh fish here, so just choose between salmon, herring and lobster!

Stockholm
Exploring the capital
Yesterday we found out that Stockholm is built on many small islands, and today we will discover one of them. Djurgården, which is not only an island but also a park, has about 800 inhabitants so don't expect to find too many people around. In the morning we will visit the Vasa Museum, which exhibits the only ship from the 17th century that has remained intact. Since we're in the area, we will also drop by the Skansen Open-Air Museum. In the afternoon we are free to visit other museums (Stockholm is full of them) or to roam the streets of other islands to truly discover the city. Next we propose a street art tour... in the metro! Stockholm is famous for its underground stations, which are true works of art, accessible to all.
On board the night train
We end the day with the first WOW moment of the trip! A beautiful night train awaits us, taking us directly into the heart of Lapland, more than a thousand kilometres north of the capital. Who knows, maybe we'll be lucky and see the northern lights filtering through the windows!

To Swedish Lapland
Kiruna
What’s it like to wake up on a train and watch the untouched nature of Lapland speeding past the window?
We finally arrive in Kiruna, take our transfer, drop off our bags at the accommodation where we’ll be staying for the next few nights, and then we’re ready to go!
We can start with a stroll through the streets of Kiruna: maybe choose a restaurant for a nice warm lunch, or treat ourselves to a local tradition—fika! It’s not just a snack, but a slow, cozy break: a slice of cake, tea or coffee, and a welcoming space to chat with our new friends.
Once recharged, we can dive into the activities planned with our group before departure: here you can try everything from a sauna to an ice sculpture workshop.
Tonight, a traditional dinner in a cabin surrounded by the Lapland landscape awaits us—the perfect way to end the day.

Ice traditions and huskies
Ice hotel & huskies
Today we’re spoiled for choice, but there’s one appointment we simply cannot miss. We pick up our rental cars and our thermal gear, which will stay with us for the next three days (suit, boots, gloves, balaclava, and hat), and then we can decide how to continue our adventure.
We can dive into nature and local wildlife by visiting a reindeer farm—did you know that reindeer are only farmed while moose are strictly wild?—to get up close and learn all their secrets.
Alternatively, if we want a change of pace and a deeper look into local history and traditions, we can head to a nearby Sami village—the people often referred to as Eskimos—to hear the story of this nomadic culture, which adapted to a harsh and ever-changing environment while facing the expansionist ambitions of kings from central Europe.
Nearby is also the famous Ice Hotel, a hotel made entirely of ice that is rebuilt every year and functions as a true museum of ice sculptures. Here, we can enjoy a drink at the iconic Ice Bar—yes, there’s actual drink served in ice!
After the visit comes our unmissable appointment: discovering the magical world of sled dogs! We’ll meet the friendly huskies who will take us on a ride through breathtaking landscapes.

Trekking in Abisko
Exploring the National Park
Today we’re going on a day trip to Abisko. This town is famous among aurora hunters because it’s in an area free from light pollution and is the driest in the country, thanks to mountains that block rainfall. Here, there are almost 200 clear-sky days out of 365, so if you happen to arrive on a cloudy night… that’s really unlucky!
Auroras aside, we can immerse ourselves in Abisko National Park, which in winter offers fairytale-like and incredibly scenic landscapes. We can explore it on foot with a short trek, on snowshoes, or even cross-country skiing. The choice is ours.

Snowmobile adventure
Ready to whiz on the snow?
Early start to leave our car rentals in Kiruna and get the transfer to an adrenaline filled artic adventure - snowmobiles!
The guides will provide us with extra ski equipment to fight the cold and will teach us how to drive the snowmobiles. The excursion will last half a day and includes a delicious local lunch in the middle of piles and piles of snow!
Back at the hotel we will have the time to grab our backpacks before we jump on the Polar Express back to Stockholm! Are we gonna be lucky enough to see the Northern Lights from our windows?

Stockholm
Check out and goodbye
We arrive at the station in Stockholm in the morning at around 10.30am (assuming no delays, which can happen in the freezing weather!) Please book your flight back in the afternoon, so you have plenty of time to spend a few last hours in the city and go to the airport at your leisure! That said, bye bye Sweden, and goodbye fellow travellers: see you on your next adventure with WeRoad!

Money Pot
If you are looking to travel before the 1st May 2026, please be aware that this itinerary will be operating with the use of the Money Pot.
(You'll notice the price will differ to our departures from May onwards to account for this)
What is the Money Pot? The Money Pot is a group kitty collected in local currency from all tour participants and managed by the Travel Coordinator.
It's only used for the extra activities that all members of the group agree to do - so rather than collecting money each time, we speed up payments by using the Money Pot! It also allows flexibility to choose the extra activities the group wants to do depending on their desires.
The Money Pot is approximately £220/€250 for this trip and is collected on-site by the Travel Coordinator on the first day. The amount of the Money Pot will vary based on the number of activities and extras that the group decides to do.
Money Pot inclusions:
Any optional entrances, tickets, local guides, tips, public transport, fuel, parking fees
Day 2: Entrance fee to the Vasa Museum
Day 3: Transfer from central Kiruna to the accommodation
Day 3 or 4: Traditional dinner in a wooden cabin on Day 3 or 4
Days 3 - 6: Thermal clothing and gear (suit, boots, gloves, balaclava, and hat)
Day 4: Transfer from the accommodation to the car rental pick-up point, entrance fee to the Ice Hotel
- Accomodation
Traditional accommodations such as Aurora Camp Kurravaara*, hostels, Nordic-style hotels, apartments, and two nights in a comfort sleeper on a night train**.
* During peak seasons, such as New Year’s Eve, accommodation at Aurora Camp Kurravaara is not guaranteed.
**Night train information:
Mixed-gender berths
The train route is direct in most cases, but in exceptional cases may involve a transfer at Boden C with an overnight stay in a berth (approx. 12 hours) + a seat (approx. 3 hours).
In the event of train cancellations, they may be replaced by buses (approximately 18–20 hours of travel time for the longest leg).
If there is no availability on the round-trip train from Stockholm to Kiruna, an extra night’s stay in a hotel in Stockholm is provided.
The private room option is available for this trip (except for nights spent on the train).
The first hotel will be shared with you at least 2 days before your departure by your Travel Coordinator!
- Self-driven tour
This is a self-driven tour - it isn’t compulsory to drive, however if you are willing to, then please tick the box when booking your trip.
- Staff
Our trips are led by a Group Leader who has been specifically trained by us to lead group travels to ensure you have the best time. A WhatsApp group with all travel participants will be created two weeks prior to departure by your Group Leader.
- Visas and Vaccinations
Before booking, please ensure you check what documents, visas, and vaccinations are required to enter the country you are visiting. If you have any questions, please contact us.
- Arrival and Departure Times
We always advise trying to get to the meet-up point for the first day of your tour by 5pm. On the last day of the trip, you will arrive back in Stockholm late morning. As such, we suggest getting a flight in the afternoon.
- Luggage
Backpacks are mandatory to allow easy transfers - we recommend a 45L backpack for our trips.
- Accommodation
Typical properties such as Aurora Camp Kurravaara, hostels, Nordic hotels, apartments, and two nights in comfort sleeper cabins on the overnight train.
Overnight train
Mixed-gender sleeper cabins
In most cases, the train journey is direct, but in exceptional cases, a change at Boden C may be required, with an overnight in a sleeper cabin (about 12 hours) plus a seat (about 3 hours).
Please also bear in mind that in case trains may be cancelled, they will be replaced by buses (approximately 18-20 hours of travel for the longest route).
If sleeper availability on the Stockholm–Kiruna round-trip train is limited, an extra overnight stay in a Stockholm hotel is provided.
The private cabin option is available for this trip.
- Transport
Please note that if the sleeper availability on the Stockholm–Kiruna round-trip train is limited, a domestic flight will be provided instead, including checked baggage up to 23 kg.
Please also bear in mind that in case trains may be cancelled, they will be replaced by buses (approximately 18-20 hours of travel for the longest route).
- Seasonality
The dog sled excursion and Arctic snowmobile adventure can only take place under favourable weather conditions. For departures in October and November, these activities may be substituted if the snow cover does not allow them to be carried out safely. Example alternative activities could include: wheeled dog sledding on land, trekking, or entrance to the Ice Hotel.
For departures during the Christmas period, accommodations, transportation, and group activities may be subject to changes based on availability.

About this trip
This trip starts in Stockholm. On the first day, we’ll meet at 18:00.
Your coordinator will add you to the WhatsApp group for your trip about 15 days before departure.It’s a great way to start getting to know your travel mates, receive more details about the first day’s meeting point, and ask any pre-departure questions you might have.
We recommend taking your return flight in the afternoon to avoid inconvenience in case of train delay.
This trip ends in Stockholm. The trip officially ends at 14:00 on the last day, so we recommend planning your return transfers accordingly. For example:
- if you need to book a flight, consider the time needed to reach the airport and complete check-in procedures;
- if you need to book a train or continue your journey independently, consider the time required to reach the station or your next destination.
If you have any doubts, you can contact the coordinator assigned to your departure for advice.
It is necessary to be equipped for rigid winter temperatures - temperatures can reach even -20° so it is good to be prepared!
For this itinerary, you can choose the type of luggage you prefer – we always recommend a backpack, but you can also travel with a duffel bag, a holdall, or (it breaks our heart to say it) a cabin trolley case or a checked suitcase, as long as it’s moderate in size. Our Travel Coordinator will suggest the ideal luggage before departure in the WhatsApp group!
About Swedish Lapland
Find out the entry requirements for Sweden, and, if needed, apply for your visa through our partner Sherpa.
Before traveling, always remember to check the government website of your country of origin for updates on the entry requirements for Sweden – you wouldn’t want to stay home due to a bureaucratic detail!
- UK residents: review the FCDO Travel Advice.
- US residents: consult the US Department of State Travel Advice.
- Other residents: refer to your government or local consulate's travel advice.
Sweden operates on Central European Time (CET), which is UTC+1. During daylight saving time, which typically runs from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October, Sweden switches to Central European Summer Time (CEST), which is UTC+2.
- If it is 12pm in the UK, it will be 1pm in Sweden.
- If it is 12pm on the East Coast of the USA, it will be 6pm in Sweden.
Make sure to adjust your watch during daylight saving time!
Sweden uses the Swedish Krona (SEK) as its currency. As of the latest rates:
- 1 GBP is approximately 13 SEK
- 1 USD is about 11 SEK
- 1 EUR is roughly 11.5 SEK
You can exchange currency at banks, exchange bureaus, or withdraw directly from ATMs upon arrival.
In Sweden, most places accept credit and debit cards, and they're widely used, even for small transactions. Mobile payment options like Swish are also popular among locals. While cash is less common, it's still useful to have some on hand for rare occasions. We suggest you ensure your cards are enabled for international use and consider carrying a backup card. If you need cash, ATMs are available in most cities and towns.
Tipping in Sweden is not obligatory, but it is appreciated for good service. At restaurants, rounding up the bill or leaving around 5-10 percent as a tip is a nice gesture. In taxis, you can round up to the nearest kronor or add a small amount. For other services like hairdressers or hotel staff, tipping is not expected but welcomed if you feel you received exceptional service. Always check the bill first, as some places might include a service charge.
In Sweden, internet access is generally excellent, with widespread availability of fast Wi-Fi in hotels, cafes, and public spaces. If you have a European SIM card, you can use roaming without extra charges. If you're from outside Europe, consider buying a local SIM or an e-SIM data plan. Providers like Telia, Telenor, and Tre offer good coverage and various data packages. Wi-Fi is usually free and reliable, so you should have no trouble staying connected.
In Sweden, the official language is Swedish. It's helpful to know a few colloquial expressions you might hear or use while traveling:
- Hello: Hej
- Thank you: Tack
- Please: Snälla
- Excuse me: Ursäkta mig
- Yes: Ja
- No: Nej
Most Swedes speak English fluently, so communication should be easy.
In Sweden, the plugs are Type C and Type F, with a voltage of 230V and a frequency of 50Hz. If you're coming from a country with different plug types, you should bring a universal adapter. Make sure your devices are compatible with the voltage to avoid any issues.
The main religion in Sweden is Christianity, specifically the Lutheran branch, due to the historical influence of the Church of Sweden. However, Sweden is known for its high level of secularism, and many Swedes identify as non-religious. Important religious holidays include Christmas and Easter, which are widely celebrated. In recent years, there is also a noticeable presence of Islam, Catholicism, and other Christian denominations due to immigration and cultural diversity.
For a trip to Sweden, you'll want to be prepared for a variety of weather conditions depending on the season and region. Here's a list of essentials to pack in your backpack:
-
Clothing:
- Warm jacket
- Sweaters or fleece
- T-shirts
- Lightweight raincoat
- Scarf and gloves for colder months

Sweden's weather varies quite a bit depending on the region and season. Here's a breakdown:
- Southern Sweden: Mild winters and warm summers. Best time to visit is late spring to early autumn.

The question of all questions! Here’s some more information:
-
The Money Pot is a common fund collected in local currency from all travellers on the trip and managed by your Travel Coordinator;
-
It is used to streamline payments for extra activities, goods and services that the whole group decides to do. This guarantees flexibility in choosing activities and excursions at the destination in line with the mood of the group;
-
It is typically collected on the first day of the trip in local currency, although at times, the Travel Coordinator may ask for it to be paid before departure;
- You’ll find the Money Pot amount on the website under the section ‘What’s included in the Money Pot’. To find this look for ‘What’s included’, scroll down to ‘Money Pot? Click here’ and you’ll find the details.
-
The amount varies depending on the destination chosen;
-
It is usually used for group expenses that all travellers decide to take part in, but sometimes if you opt out of an activity it might make more sense for it to come out of the Money Pot. In these cases the Coordinator will return the amount for this activity back to you at the end of the trip;
-
It is estimated based on the experience of other groups but can vary depending on what activities your group is keen for. As such, the Travel Coordinator may need to increase the amount during the trip;
-
If not all of the Money Pot is spent, the difference will be returned to all travellers at the end of the trip;
-
The Money Pot also covers the Travel Coordinator’s share of the activities included in the Money Pot, except for those activities that are free for the Travel Coordinator;
-
If you pay in advance for part of the Money Pot before the trip for certain non-refundable optional activities, unfortunately, the amount cannot be refunded if the trip is cancelled;
- Activities paid through the Money Pot: they are carried out by third-party local suppliers and their conditions apply; WeRoad does not intervene in their management nor assumes any responsibility. For details on the money pot, see the General Terms and Conditions
We offer several payment methods to fit every need:
1. Credit or debit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express);
2. Instalment payment with Klarna (you’ll pay for the trip in three equal amounts);
3. PayPal (for selected destinations);
4. Revolut Pay to pay even faster straight from your Revolut account.
Yes, but the available options depend on the status of your trip and when you make the request.
If your trip is not yet confirmed
You can cancel your booking by emailing hello@weroad.com
free of charge, up to 31 days before departure.
Please note: if it’s your first unconfirmed booking, you will only be asked to provide a credit card, PayPal, or Revolut as a guarantee, but nothing will be charged. From the second unconfirmed booking onwards, a mandatory £/$0100 deposit will be required.
If your trip is confirmed
Fees are not refundable in cash. You are entitled to cancel up to 31 days before departure, but after this deadline, cancellation is no longer possible.
Flexible Cancellation
If you purchased the Flexible Cancellation option (available in the first step of the booking process), you can cancel your trip up to 8 days before departure and receive a 100% refund of the price, including the deposit and private room fee. The only non-refundable amount is the cost of the Flexible Cancellation option itself.
How to cancel your trip
- Write to hello@weroad.com
- indicating your booking code.
- We will reply as soon as possible applying the cancellation conditions for your booking.
For our trips we usually use locally owned accommodation instead of big hotel chains. It’s our favourite way to really experience the local culture and, whenever we can, support the local economy. Typically, you’ll stay in hotels, apartments, guesthouses and hostels with the same standard maintained across all trips in the same destination.
The list of accommodation for your trip will be shared with you by your Travel Coordinator 2-5 days before departure, along with other useful details for your adventure!
Yes! We might not know the flights for everyone else in the group, but there are ways to find out which flights your fellow WeRoaders will be taking.
1. All travellers can share their flight details after booking on their My WeRoad account so that other travellers on the same trip can see these details anonymously.
2. Alternatively you can join our Facebook group: Solo Travellers | WeRoad Community – (here is the extended link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/963298767843213 ) Look for a post about the trip you’re interested in or ask the group admin for help in getting in touch with your future travel companions!
3. If the Coordinator has already been assigned to the trip you’re keen for, you can easily find their Facebook post on the website. Click 'Ask the Coordinator' and follow the link here.
Generally, our groups have an average of 11 people. Everyone on our trips speaks English, and travellers join us from across the UK, Europe and beyond. Our trips are open to travelers between 25 and 49 years old. The indicated age is meant to give you an idea of the type of group, but it's not a strict limit: it's possible to participate even with a few years more or less, as long as you can keep up with the pace and energy of the group you're traveling with.
Each group will be joined and led by one of our experienced Travel Coordinators, who’s there to ensure everything runs smoothly and the group feels well-supported.
If you’d like to know more about our typical WeRoad groups do reach out to us on WhatsApp on +44 7716573700.
Yes! If you're curious, you can take a sneak peek at the group before booking.
You’ll find the info in the ‘Group’ section for each trip on the departures page, showing how many WeRoaders have already booked.
Click the little arrow and you’ll even see their gender and ages – but hey, that’s exclusive info, so we’ll ask you to log in or sign up to see that!
For some trips, in the itinerary section, you’ll find the number of nights and the location (not the hotel) where you’ll be spending the night(s). The location shown is the one we usually go for on most trips, but in some cases, you might stay in a nearby town. This will depend on logistics or availability of accommodation.
The list of accommodation for your trip (and therefore also the exact locations) will be shared by your Travel Coordinator 2-5 days before departure, along with other useful information for your adventure!
The WeRoad Travel Coordinator is an experienced and skilled traveller who will be the perfect companion for your trip. They will manage all the logistical aspects of the itinerary like transport, timings, accommodation, restaurant bookings and meeting points, so that you can enjoy the trip without this hassle. They’re there to support the group, ensure everything runs smoothly and will no doubt make the trip a lot of fun along the way too!
The Coordinator will set up a WhatsApp group approximately 2 weeks before departure. This will be the moment to ask any pre-departure questions and get to know the rest of the group! If the trip you are interested in already has a Travel Coordinator assigned, you can contact them before booking. Their details will be on the trip page, or you can search for their name here. After booking, you will find their contact details in your My WeRoad account, under ‘Bookings and Trips’ > ‘Your Upcoming Trips’ > ‘Trip Details’.
Yes, on all our trips you will share a room with other WeRoaders in your group. By default this will be people of the same gender, unless you tick ‘I'm OK with a mixed gender room’ when you book. The bathroom will either be private or shared only with other travellers on the trip. The rooms might be twins, triples, quadruples or multi-share (up to 8 people in exceptional cases), depending on the destination and availability.
You will never share with people from outside of the WeRoad group, except in certain cases for local experiences, which are specifically mentioned in the itinerary or communicated before booking. These typically involve specific nights in unique accommodation like tents, homestays, or camping, offering a more adventurous travel experience in exchange for some comfort.
On some of our trips we can offer a private room for an additional cost. Just tick the ‘Private Room’ option at checkout to get this added. For some of our trips if you book as two travellers together you can add this private room free of charge. Look out for this option at checkout.
Please note that if you do book a private room with a friend/partner this could be either a double or a twin room so please email hello@weroad.com if you have a preference on this.
When you set off on a WeRoad trip, you’re officially a WeRoader – and as we often say, 'once a WeRoader, always a WeRoader'. This means that once you’re part of the community, a little piece of WeRoad will always stay with you.
But you’re not just a WeRoader during your trips, far from it! The community is alive and active all year round: you can stay in touch by following and interacting on our social media channels, like the Facebook group or the Instagram profile.
