Itinerary

Patagonia is the dream destination for those who love adventure among unspoiled natural landscapes and soaring peaks. On this 13-day tour we will travel from Argentina to Chile, crossing the Andes in their southernmost part. It is a unique experience in the open air, in a distant land, so different from our everyday life. We will climb mountains, explore glaciers, walk among penguins and even reach the ends of the earth... lost in a bubble where time takes on a different meaning and the slow pace of life will allow you to take a deep breath and refocus your energies.

The tour begins in Buenos Aires before we fly south where the real adventure begins. We will tackle some of the most iconic hikes in Argentina, trekking near the iconic Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre, and then we'll arrive to the majestic Perito Moreno Glacier, the biggest glacier in the whole world. Then we cross the Andes into Chile to trek in Torres del Paine National Park, where we'll find ourselves in the most incredible landscapes of our life. Then we will set out on a journey through incredible landscapes to reach Ushuaia, the southernmost city on the planet. To conclude the trip will return to Buenos Aires, where we will have time to enjoy one of the great cities in the world and reflect on an adventure we will never forget!

Check-in: our adventure starts in Buenos Aires

Roundtrip flights or transportation to reach the destination are not included in the package, so you can decide from where and when you want to leave! This gives you complete freedom of choice to adjust your travel itinerary to your needs.

Check-in to your hotel in Buenos Aires and then it is time for your welcome dinner. It will be the perfect opportunity to get to know each other a bit better and to taste some local delicacies. They say that Argentinian meat is cooked to such perfection that you can cut it with a spoon, so let’s put it to the test! For those of us who don't really suffer from jet lag, we can continue the night in one of the city’s many buzzing bars… vamos a bailar!

Trekking paradise

Rise and shine, today is the beginning of our adventure in Patagonia! We'll catch a domestic flight to Calafate. Our home for the next two days will be a small village, three hours drive from the airport, at the north end of the Los Glaciares National Park. El Chalten is the national capital of trekking in Argentina so be prepared for stunning hikes surrounded by the most amazing landscapes.

This area includes the tallest peaks in the region, as well as lakes, glaciers and forests. It really doesn't get any better than this! Some of the best treks will be on Mount Fitz Roy (11171 ft) and Cerro Torre (10262 ft). Our choice: a full day hike up to Laguna de los Tres at the foot of Mount Fitz Roy massif. We'll have our camera's at the ready, as your friends and family are going to want to see this!

Icy rivers and petrified forests

Before saying goodbye to El Chaltén after lunch we'll have plenty of options to stay busy in the morning. The southernmost white water rafting in the world? We got it. Didn't get enough steps in yesterday and want to add an extra hike? No problem. Fancy exploring a petrified forest full of million year old dinosaur fossils? We got it too. In truth, it doesn't matter what we choose, as it is guarantee to take your breath away.

After arriving in Calafate and checking in our hotel we'll get out to explore this town by the shore of the largest lake in Patagonia. We can maybe explore the incredibly varied birdlife by Laguna Nímez, but will definitely make a stop at one of the many local craft breweries. Cheers!

The land of glaciers

El Calafate is widely known as the national capital of glaciers. The most famous among them is Perito Moreno and we have a full day to explore it. Despite the sad fact that most of the glaciers worldwide are retreating, this one is one of the few that remains in a state of equilibrium through cycles of accumulation and ablation. After arriving, we will head to one of the viewpoints above the glacier and wait for a large block of blue and white ice to collapse into the glacial lake below. Ice creaking, a roar and a thunderous splash: that will be the soundtrack to one of the most amazing natural phenomena you can witness. Afterwards we can choose from a number of on site excursions like a boat trip which will take you even closer to the glacier, or a kayak tour for the more adventurous among us. Those who feel up to it can don some crampons and follow an expert adventure guide into the interior of the glacier exploring the deep crevasses, caves and underground lagoons (This activity is subject to availability and as such is not included in the trip fee or the Money Pot).

Crossing the border

Today is the day that we'll say bye for now to Argentina as we cross the border to Chile to explore the mighty Magallanes region. The isolation is real here as the only way to access from Santiago (apart from flying) is either by ferry crossing the impressive Chilean fjords or, as we'll do, entering by road from Argentina.

It will take us some time to reach Puerto Natales so sit back and enjoy the incredible scenery keeping an eye out for guanacos, a kind of patagonian ostriche, and, if we're super lucky, pumas! Situated on the shores of the Last Hope Fjord, Puerto Natales is the gateway to one of the highlights of our adventure, Torres del Paine National Park. Upon arrival we'll have time to walk around the small village and maybe even explore the famous Milodon Cave, where the skeleton of this prehistorical animal was found.

Up to the Base of the Towers

Torres del Paine National Park is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and is worth the flight across the Atlantic on its own. When you think of Patagonia, one of the most iconic images that comes to mind is probably the view from the base of the towers lookout: the three granite peaks rising behind the crystal clear waters of the lake. And this is where we're headed today so lace up your hiking shoes and get ready for quite a trek! At this point, try to fight the urge to take pictures, just breathe in and enjoy the moment. After an amazing day deep into nature we'll get back to Puerto Natales where we can relax for a while before heading into town to celebrate the success of our hiking adventure with a hearty dinner and a visit to the southernmost gin distillery in the world. Salud!

The southernmost city in the world

Today we have a long journey ahead of us to reach our destination - Ushuaia, the end of the earth. We will head south across the Patagonian steppe towards the historical oceanic passage of the Strait of Magallanes. While on the ferry crossing the strait, picture the scene of more than 100 years ago as up until 1914 when the Panama Canal was opened to traffic, this was the only way to travel between the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans across the Americas.

Arriving on the other shore we find ourselves on the legendary island of Tierra de Fuego (the land of fire) and we'll venture deeper into it jumping to the Argentinian side and crossing the last ridges of the Andean mountain range. At some point on our journey another body of water will appear in front of us, the Beagle Channel. And just like that we've reached our home for the next 3 days. After such a day you can consider yourselves real adventurers!

Exploring the end of the world

The next two days are dedicated to exploring Ushuaia and the nature surrounding the city. As we’ve come this far it would be a real shame not to sail down Beagle Channel, so for those of you who fancy a boat trip, this is the perfect activity. You’ll be surrounded by the snowy peaks of Isla Grande of Tierra de Fuego, and on the other side, the coast of Chilean Navarino Island. Named after the ship that sailed it for the first time and that, on its second expedition, transported Charles Darwin around the world, the channel is inhabited by big communities of sea lions, cormorants and otters that will play by our boat. But to meet the most famous little friend in the neighbourhood we'll have to get off the ship in Martillo Island and and walk among up to three different species of penguins, who build their nests here every year. On the way back, if we are particularly lucky, we might even spot some whales!

But this is a trekking tour right? So of course we have some exciting hikes available! Let's explore Tierra del Fuego National Park and get to the top of Cerro Guanaco, to enjoy a 360° view of the mountains around us. Don't forget to get some postcards in town beforehand as by the national park's gate we'll get to send them home from the southernmost post office in the world. Let's not leave without trying the delicacy of this land, king crab in all its variations!

Bye Patagonia

It’s unfortunately time to leave the unspoiled nature of these lands at the end of the world and catch a domestic flight back to Buenos Aires. After so many adventures in Patagonia, it’s time to relax with a stroll around the neighbourhood of Palermo, do some shopping in the cute little vintage shops, try to find the best empanada in the city or grab a coffee and watch the world go by. Or, for a culture fix, why not head over to world famous Recoleta Cemetery, the resting place of former Argentine first lady Evita Peron.

From Plaza de Mayo to La Boca

Today’s main focus will be exploring the wonderful city of Buenos Aires and tasting delicious local food! We'll start from Plaza de Mayo, right in the heart of the city, and walk along Avenida 9 de Julio, the widest avenue in the world. While we're here, we simply must stop at Cafe Tortoni, the oldest coffee shop in the whole country. Worth a visit is also El Ateneo; the building opened as a theatre and is now considered one of the most beautiful bookshops on the planet.

We'll continue our tour of the city to reach La Boca, walking past La Bombonera - a football stadium named after a chocolate box! - and the colourful houses of Caminito. This is the neighbourhood’s most famous alley, where you often find tango dancers showcasing their talent for everyone to enjoy. Sadly all good things must come to end, but let's celebrate the end of wonderful adventure with a farewell dinner, and few glasses of Argentinian Malbec.

About Argentina

What are the entry requirements for Argentina?

If you are a UK citizen, to find out the entry requirements for Argentina, you can check this informational page from our partner Sherpa. If you need a visa, you can apply for it through Sherpa. If you are not a UK citizen, you can still use Sherpa by changing the nationality in the 'Passport' section.

Before traveling, always remember to check the government website of your country of origin for updates on the entry requirements for Argentina – you wouldn’t want to stay home due to a bureaucratic detail!

What's the time zone in Argentina?

Argentina is in the Argentina Time Zone (ART), which is 3 hours behind Coordinated Universal Time (UTC-3). Argentina does not observe daylight saving time, so it remains consistent throughout the year. If it is 12pm in the UK, it will be 9am in Argentina. If it is 12pm in New York, USA, it will be 11am in Argentina.

Which currency is used in Argentina?

The currency used in Argentina is the Argentine Peso (ARS). The daily exchange rate can fluctuate, but as an example, 1 GBP might be around 350 ARS, 1 USD around 350 ARS, and 1 EUR around 370 ARS. It's best to check current rates before you travel. You can exchange currency at banks, official exchange offices called "casas de cambio," or at some hotels.

How can I pay in Argentina?

In Argentina, you can pay using cash, credit cards, or debit cards. Credit cards like Visa and MasterCard are widely accepted, especially in urban areas and tourist spots. However, in smaller towns or rural areas, it's a good idea to carry some Argentine pesos as cash might be preferred. Always check with your bank about fees for international transactions. Additionally, some places may accept payment through mobile apps like Mercado Pago. It's wise to have multiple payment options available to avoid any inconvenience.

Do I need to tip in Argentina?

Tipping in Argentina is appreciated but not mandatory. In restaurants, leaving a tip of around 10 percent of the total bill is common. For other services like taxis, rounding up the fare is a nice gesture, though not expected. If someone helps with your luggage or gives you a tour, a small tip is a good way to show appreciation. Always remember to tip in cash, as it's not usually added to card payments.

What's the internet like in Argentina? Should I buy a SIM card? How available is Wi-Fi?

In Argentina, Wi-Fi is widely available in urban areas, including cafes, hotels, and restaurants, so you can often stay connected without a problem. However, if you're traveling to more remote areas or planning to use mobile data frequently, buying a local SIM card or an e-SIM data plan is a good idea. Major providers include Movistar, Claro, and Personal, and you can purchase SIM cards at airports, mobile shops, and convenience stores. This way, you can ensure you have internet access throughout your trip, especially when Wi-Fi is not available.

It's a good idea to check your device compatibility with 220 volts to avoid any issues.

What’s the main religion in Argentina?

About WeRoad

Are flights included?

Return international flights are not included on our trips because we want to give you full autonomy and flexibility. You can choose your preferred airline, fly from the airport that works best for you, and decide how many stopovers you want to make along the way.

As flights are not included, you also have more flexibility with your travel dates: you could arrive at your destination a few days early or return home a bit later – or even continue independently to a nearby destination!

What does the "Available" status mean?

to-confirm.svg

An "Available" departure means that the trip isn’t confirmed yet and we’re waiting for a few more travellers to sign up… which could be you!

If you book the trip please wait for it to be confirmed before booking your international flights.

What is the Money Pot and how does it work?

The question of all questions! Here’s some more information:

  • The Money Pot is a common fund collected in local currency from all travellers on the trip and managed by your Travel Coordinator.
  • It is used to streamline payments for extra activities, goods and services that the whole group decides to do. This guarantees flexibility in choosing activities and excursions at the destination in line with the mood of the group.
  • It is typically collected on the first day of the trip in local currency, although at times, the Travel Coordinator may ask for it to be paid before departure.
  • You’ll find the Money Pot amount on the website under the section ‘What’s included in the Money Pot’. To find this look for ‘What’s included’, scroll down to ‘Money Pot? Click here’ and you’ll find the details.
  • The amount varies depending on the destination chosen.
  • It is usually used for group expenses that all travellers decide to take part in, but sometimes if you opt out of an activity it might make more sense for it to come out of the Money Pot. In these cases the Coordinator will return the amount for this activity back to you at the end of the trip.
  • It is estimated based on the experience of other groups but can vary depending on what activities your group is keen for. As such, the Travel Coordinator may need to increase the amount during the trip.
  • If not all of the Money Pot is spent, the difference will be returned to all travellers at the end of the trip.
  • The Money Pot also covers the Travel Coordinator’s share of the activities included in the Money Pot, except for those activities that are free for the Travel Coordinator.
  • If you pay in advance for part of the Money Pot before the trip for certain non-refundable optional activities, unfortunately, the amount cannot be refunded if the trip is cancelled.
What payment methods can I use?

We offer several payment methods to fit every need:

1. Credit or debit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express);
2. Instalment payment with Klarna (you’ll pay for the trip in three equal amounts);
3. PayPal (for selected destinations);
4. Revolut Pay to pay even faster straight from your Revolut account.

Can I cancel or modify my booking?

Anyone who books a WeRoad trip has the option to cancel or modify the trip – including both the dates and the destination – free of charge up to 31 days before departure. In case of cancellation up to 31 days before departure, you will receive a 100% refund of the WeRoad trip price. If you make a change, a price adjustment will be applied to the new trip chosen – meaning, if the new trip is cheaper, we will refund the difference; if it’s more expensive, you will need to pay the difference.

If you’ve purchased the Flexible Cancellation Option (which you can add in the first step of the booking process), you can request a cancellation or trip change until 8 days before departure. In case of cancellation, you’ll receive a 100% refund of the WeRoad trip price, minus the cost of the Flexible Cancellation option.

You can do it directly from your personal MyWeRoad account!

Within your booking you will find the "Change Your Trip" section at the bottom right, just underneath your booking details. You will be able to select a different date for the same trip, or a different trip entirely. Whether you are able to change the trip depends on the cancellation terms of your booking. For your original booking if you selected the Private Room, Flexible Cancellation or entered any discount code, gift card or voucher, before confirming the change we will let you know if anything isn't applicable to the new trip and you can decide whether to proceed or not. If you have any issues please do get in touch with the WeRoad team and we'll be able to help.

It's not possible to move to a 'sold out' trip and with any trips that are 'on request' we will need to check availability with our local partners so please do get in touch if you want to move to an 'on request' trip. Please bear in mind that if the trip has the 'final spots' status, there may be no places left in either the male or female room.

How to request a cancellation or change to your trip? Send us an email at [email protected] or a WhatsApp on +447716573700. Please share the booking reference for the trip you want to cancel or change, and, in case of a change, the new trip you would like to join.

What type of accommodation should I expect on your trips?

For our trips we usually use locally owned accommodation instead of big hotel chains. It’s our favourite way to really experience the local culture and, whenever we can, support the local economy. Typically, you’ll stay in hotels, apartments, guesthouses and hostels with the same standard maintained across all trips in the same destination.

The list of accommodation for your trip will be shared with you by your Travel Coordinator 2-5 days before departure, along with other useful details for your adventure!

Can I find out my travel groups' flights?

Yes! We might not know the flights for everyone else in the group, but there are ways to find out which flights your fellow WeRoaders will be taking.

1. All travellers can share their flight details after booking on their My WeRoad account so that other travellers on the same trip can see these details anonymously.

2. Alternatively you can join our Facebook group: Solo Travellers | WeRoad Community – (here is the extended link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/963298767843213 ) Look for a post about the trip you’re interested in or ask the group admin for help in getting in touch with your future travel companions!

3. If the Coordinator has already been assigned to the trip you’re keen for, you can easily find their Facebook post on the website. Click 'Ask the Coordinator' and follow the link here.

How is a group made up in average?

Our groups usually consist of 8–12 travellers, with a minimum of 3–4 and a maximum of 15.
Everyone on our trips speaks English, and travellers join us from across the UK, Europe and beyond. Our trips are open to people in their 20s, 30s, and 40s, with an average age of 34 across all trips.

Each group will be joined and led by one of our experienced Travel Coordinators, who’s there to ensure everything runs smoothly and the group feels well-supported.

If you’d like to know more about our typical WeRoad groups do reach out to us on WhatsApp on +44 7716573700.

Can I see who’s in the group before I book the trip?

Yes! If you're curious, you can take a sneak peek at the group before booking.
You’ll find the info in the ‘Group’ section for each trip on the departures page, showing how many WeRoaders have already booked.

Click the little arrow and you’ll even see their gender and ages – but hey, that’s exclusive info, so we’ll ask you to log in or sign up to see that!

If a location is mentioned, is it guaranteed that we’ll spend the night there?

For some trips, in the itinerary section, you’ll find the number of nights and the location (not the hotel) where you’ll be spending the night(s). The location shown is the one we usually go for on most trips, but in some cases, you might stay in a nearby town. This will depend on logistics or availability of accommodation.

The list of accommodation for your trip (and therefore also the exact locations) will be shared by your Travel Coordinator 2-5 days before departure, along with other useful information for your adventure!

Who is the Travel Coordinator and what is their role on the trip?

The WeRoad Travel Coordinator is an experienced and skilled traveller who will be the perfect companion for your trip. They will manage all the logistical aspects of the itinerary like transport, timings, accommodation, restaurant bookings and meeting points, so that you can enjoy the trip without this hassle. They’re there to support the group, ensure everything runs smoothly and will no doubt make the trip a lot of fun along the way too!

The Coordinator will set up a WhatsApp group approximately 2 weeks before departure. This will be the moment to ask any pre-departure questions and get to know the rest of the group! If the trip you are interested in already has a Travel Coordinator assigned, you can contact them before booking. Their details will be on the trip page, or you can search for their name here. After booking, you will find their contact details in your My WeRoad account, under ‘Bookings and Trips’ > ‘Your Upcoming Trips’ > ‘Trip Details’.

Will I be sharing a room?

Yes, on all our trips you will share a room with other WeRoaders in your group. By default this will be people of the same gender, unless you tick ‘I'm OK with a mixed gender room’ when you book. The bathroom will either be private or shared only with other travellers on the trip. The rooms might be twins, triples, quadruples or multi-share (up to 8 people in exceptional cases), depending on the destination and availability.

You will never share with people from outside of the WeRoad group, except in certain cases for local experiences, which are specifically mentioned in the itinerary or communicated before booking. These typically involve specific nights in unique accommodation like tents, homestays, or camping, offering a more adventurous travel experience in exchange for some comfort.

On some of our trips we can offer a private room for an additional cost. Just tick the ‘Private Room’ option at checkout to get this added. For some of our trips if you book as two travellers together you can add this private room free of charge. Look out for this option at checkout.

Please note that if you do book a private room with a friend/partner this could be either a double or a twin room so please email [email protected] if you have a preference on this.

How can I be part of the WeRoad community?

When you set off on a WeRoad trip, you’re officially a WeRoader – and as we often say, 'once a WeRoader, always a WeRoader'. This means that once you’re part of the community, a little piece of WeRoad will always stay with you.

But you’re not just a WeRoader during your trips, far from it! The community is alive and active all year round: you can stay in touch by following and interacting on our social media channels, like the Facebook group or the Instagram profile. You can also come along to one of our many events that we run in different cities worldwide. Check out and sign up to our events by downloading the WeMeet app here
