Itinerary

From Bangkok to Koh Tao and Koh Samui: a new group trip to Thailand during which we will have the opportunity to experience this Southeast Asian country through and through, discovering its culture, traditions, and above all its beautiful islands - not by chance, in fact, this itinerary is a Beach Life! We will admire the glittering skyscrapers and experience the frenetic pace of Bangkok, visit the markets, explore its cuisine, and finally relax on the beaches of Koh Tao and Koh Samui.

We start in the capital, Bangkok, a must-see stop when deciding to plan a trip to Thailand, and we are immediately won over by its hustle and bustle as we wander through its most famous streets, from the effervescent Khao San Road to Chinatown and the thousands of stalls where we can try local (and not) street food. We will visit characteristic markets such as the floating market and the famous Train Market - which is literally crossed by train tracks - and then continue to Hua Hin, where we will visit Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park, a small gem usually snubbed but offering breathtaking scenery. We will continue our journey in the direction of Chumphon, where we will catch a ferry the next morning that will finally take us to the sea: Koh Tao will host us for two days, and then we will move on to Koh Samui, which will be the perfect conclusion to this trip! We will get to enjoy the sea, explore the natural landscapes, and experience Thai nightlife, which, at least according to what they say, is even wilder on the southern islands than in Bangkok!

Day 1

Welcome to Thailand!

City and cultures
Party and nightlife
Check-in: our adventure starts in Bangkok

Roundtrip flights or transportation to reach the destination are not included in the package, so you can decide from where and when you want to leave! This gives you complete freedom of choice to adjust your travel itinerary to your needs.

Bangkok hotel check-in and welcome meeting. We all meet in this city that is a bit of a symbol of Southeast Asia, with chaos reigning supreme in the streets, traffic, honking horns, and markets where they sell a little bit of everything. The first impact will be intense, but in the meantime we get acquainted in the best way possible: let's start with food! With what dish will we kick off this journey - also culinary! - discovering Thailand? Let's take a guess: pad thai for everyone!

Day 2

Floating and Train Markets

Monuments and history
City and cultures
Thai markets are peculiar...

Since it is precisely the markets that are one of the most characteristic places in this city and Thailand in general, this morning we reach the Railway Market, a market that is literally crossed by the tracks. When the train arrives, the vendors simply move their wares and the tents they use for shade - the train passes by and then everything goes back to the way it was! After watching the train brush past food of all kinds, if we have enough time, we move on to the klongs, which are nothing more than the canals that were formerly used to transport goods and people as well as to organize real floating markets. Aboard the typical long-tail boats we thus discover another face of Bangkok - which is not by chance nicknamed the "Venice of Asia."

Caves and street food

After a quick lunch, we get back on the road and say goodbye to Bangkok for good. If we have time, we move on to Phetchaburi City. We are here for a specific reason: after the chaos of the capital we are ready for some peace, and we seek it in Tham Khao Luang Cave*. This cave, inside which we find a Buddhist shrine, is made incredibly atmospheric by the sun's rays filtering through the ceiling. Here we will also be able to make our first acquaintance with the famous little monkeys found almost everywhere in places like these in Thailand-will they be friendly? We continue on to today's final stop: by dinnertime, we are in Hua Hin, where we can get to the night market and finally sample some street food. Will there be fried grasshoppers? More importantly: will anyone dare to taste them?

Day 3

Temples, markets and national parks

Nature and adventure
Monuments and history
Wat Khao Takiap

Today is our last day on the mainland: tomorrow we will reach the islands of the Gulf of Siam for a few days of pure relaxation - but first we need to check off a few items from the list of things to do on a trip to Thailand.

First item to cross off: visit a Buddhist temple; most of the Thai population is Buddhist, so there are temples all over the country. Hua Hin is no exception, and Wat Khao Takiap is one such extraordinary Buddhist temple complex on "Chopsticks Hill" south of downtown Hua Hin. It is one of the city's most recognizable temples, situated on a 272-meter-high hill that juts out into the Gulf of Thailand and is visible from the coasts to the north and south. The second item to cross off: encounter some monkeys - spoiler: we will walk to Wat Khao Takiap and will encounter quite a few on the way!

Sam Roi Yot National Park

Third item to cross off the MUST HAVE list of a Thai trip: visit at least one national park! Well, this is it: the Sam Roi Yot National Park is the park for us. Khao Sam Roi Yot Nature Park is the most important one in Prachuap Khiri Khan province. Established in 1966, it is located halfway between Bangkok, Prachuap Khiri Khan and Hua Hin. Despite this proximity to the capital, Khao Sam Roi Yot is one of Thailand's National Parks that is less known to tourists, making it perfect for those of us who want to discover little-used corners of Thailand. After visiting the park, we set out again to reach Chumpon: sea, here we come!

Day 4

Koh Tao: turtles island

Nature and adventure
Relax
Is this paradise?

Ready to go to paradise? This morning we move to Koh Tao: this island is famous for turtles and snorkelling, so we definitely won't be sitting on our hands. For those of us who feel like exploring the sea (crystal clear, of course), we can go exploring the seabed. Maybe we can even see some turtles and, fingers crossed, even swim with them! We have two whole days to spend on this island paradise, so let's take our time to explore it, unearth the most beautiful beaches and enjoy the nightlife as well.

Day 5

Discovering Koh Tao

Nature and adventure
Relax

Imagine waking up in Koh Tao with the sun shining and the smell of the sea in the air... what more could you want? A typical day in Koh Tao sounds like this: for starters, we can take a stroll around the local market, where we can find everything from quirky hats to unique souvenirs. Then, we head to one of the breathtaking beaches for a refreshing dip and some snorkeling to discover the marine life. We continue the day with an underwater adventure - the diving here is crazy! For lunch, we can indulge in a delicious meal of fresh seafood at one of the seafront restaurants while being lulled by the tropical breeze. Finally, to end the day on a high note, we take a boat ride at sunset, sipping cocktails and dancing to the rhythm of local drums. Koh Tao is an island full of surprises and adventures to discover together!

Day 6

Koh Samui: tropical paradise

Nature and adventure
To a new island!

Today we move to Koh Samui. After having breakfast, we reach the port, board the ferry and enjoy the sea-if we are really sleepy, we can take a nap lulled by the waves. When we arrive at our destination, we settle into the facility, very ready to discover this Thai island as well. In the afternoon we can rest and recharge our batteries for the first evening ahead in Koh Samui: we now know what to expect from Thai nightlife. Are we ready to dance the night away on the beach?

Day 7

Another day in Koh Samui

Nature and adventure
Relax

This morning we wake up in this paradise and have the whole day at our disposal. We can customize it by organizing the activities that interest us most with the support and at the suggestion of our coordinator. One idea, after having breakfast, is that we can use the morning to discover two nearby islands with a boat excursion: direction Koh Tan and Koh Madsum. These are two small islands in the Mu Koh Samui archipelago surrounded by a vibrant and colourful coral reef, almost deserted - barely 50 people live there - and accessible only by sea. Real little marine paradises off the coast of which we can dive and snorkel.

Day 8

Back to Bangkok

City and cultures
Party and nightlife
Off to Bangkok

The time to leave these wonderful islands has already come, those who are sad raise your hands! Today is dedicated to returning to Bangkok but first, we have the morning completely free to enjoy a few more hours of sea and rest! In fact, our ferry leaves around 5 p.m. We will arrive in Donsak after about an hour and a half of travel and from there we have an hour or so drive until we get to the train station. What would a WeRoad in Thailand be without an overnight train! And indeed here we are, ready to try this adventure as well!

Day 9

Discovering Bangkok

City and cultures
Party and nightlife
Last night in Bangkok

There are always some places in a city that should not be missed. That's why in the morning we'll take a walk among Bangkok's temples and then continue on to Wat Pho, with its giant reclining golden Buddha, and Wat Arun, across the river - to reach it we'll take a short boat ride. Known as the "Temple of Dawn," it has a timeless atmosphere that instills deep peace.

In the afternoon we have some free time and it will be a good opportunity to do some shopping before heading home. To close out the day, we are treated to a combo of incredible local experiences: a street food tour of about three hours - we eat Thai! - through the streets of Bangkok, not on foot, but aboard the iconic tuk-tuks. We will have a local guide with us who will accompany us on this tour where we will get to try some of the local cuisine and end at a stylish bar in the city while sipping a delicious drink. What better occasion to look back on our adventures together before saying goodbye?

Day 10

Time to say goodbye - we'll see each other on an other adventure!

About Thailand

What are the entry requirements for Thailand?

If you are a UK citizen, to find out the entry requirements for Thailand, you can check this informational page from our partner Sherpa. If you need a visa, you can apply for it through Sherpa. If you are not a UK citizen, you can still use Sherpa by changing the nationality in the 'Passport' section.

Before traveling, always remember to check the government website of your country of origin for updates on the entry requirements for Thailand – you wouldn’t want to stay home due to a bureaucratic detail!

What's the time zone in Thailand?

Thailand is in the Indochina Time zone, which is GMT+7. This means there is no daylight saving time.
If it is 12pm in the UK, it will be 7pm in Thailand.

Which currency is used in Thailand?

Thailand uses the Thai Baht (THB). As of the most recent rates:

  • 1 GBP is approximately 43 THB
  • 1 USD is roughly 35 THB
  • 1 EUR is about 38 THB

You can exchange your currency at banks, exchange counters at airports, and major tourist areas. Always check for the latest exchange rates before you go.

How can I pay in Thailand?

In Thailand, you can pay using cash, credit cards, or mobile payment apps. Credit cards like Visa and MasterCard are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, and larger stores. However, for smaller shops, street vendors, and local markets, you'll need cash.

It's a good idea to have a mix of payment options. You can withdraw Thai Baht from ATMs, which are plentiful in cities and towns. Make sure to notify your bank about your travel plans to avoid any issues with your card.

Do I need to tip in Thailand?

Tipping in Thailand is not mandatory, but it's appreciated for good service. In restaurants, you can leave any loose change or round up the bill. For porters or hotel staff, a small tip of 20-50 baht is a nice gesture. Taxis do not require a tip, but rounding up to the nearest 10 baht is common practice. Remember, tipping is at your discretion and based on the level of service you received.

What's the internet like in Thailand? Should I buy a SIM card? How available is Wi-Fi?

In Thailand, the internet connection is generally good, with Wi-Fi widely available in hotels, cafes, and restaurants, especially in urban areas like Bangkok and Chiang Mai. However, for more reliable and on-the-go access, it's a good idea to buy a local SIM card or an e-SIM data plan. You can find SIM cards from providers like AIS, DTAC, or TrueMove at the airport and convenience stores. They offer affordable data packages, making it easy to stay connected while exploring the country.

What language do they speak in Thailand?

In Thailand, the official language is Thai. Here are a few useful Thai expressions you might hear or want to use:

  • Hello: Sawasdee (สวัสดี)
  • Thank you: Khop khun (ขอบคุณ)
  • Yes: Chai (ใช่)
  • No: Mai chai (ไม่ใช่)
  • How much?: Tao rai? (เท่าไหร่?)

Knowing a few phrases can really enhance your experience in Thailand!

What kind of plugs are used in Thailand?

In Thailand, the plugs used are Type A, B, and C. The voltage is 220 volts, and the frequency is 50 Hz. If you're coming from a country with different plug types, like the UK or the USA, you'll need a universal adapter to fit these sockets. This ensures your devices can be safely charged without any issues. Make sure your electronics can handle the 220 volts or get a voltage converter.

What’s the main religion in Thailand?

The main religion in Thailand is Buddhism, with about 95% of the population being Theravada Buddhists. You’ll find many beautiful temples and Buddhist practices integrated into daily life. Important religious holidays include:

  • Makha Bucha
  • Visakha Bucha
  • Asalha Bucha

When visiting temples or participating in religious events, it's respectful to dress modestly. For women, this means covering shoulders and knees.

What should I pack for Thailand?

Packing for Thailand is exciting, as you'll be exploring a beautiful and diverse country.
Here's a handy list of what to put in your backpack:

  • Clothing:
    - Lightweight t-shirts and tank tops
    - Shorts and skirts
    - Lightweight pants or long skirts for temples
    - A light jacket or sweater for cooler evenings
    - Swimwear

About WeRoad

Are flights included?

Return international flights are not included on our trips because we want to give you full autonomy and flexibility. You can choose your preferred airline, fly from the airport that works best for you, and decide how many stopovers you want to make along the way.

As flights are not included, you also have more flexibility with your travel dates: you could arrive at your destination a few days early or return home a bit later – or even continue independently to a nearby destination!

What does £/€0 deposit mean?
In some cases - for example, when a departure is not yet confirmed - you can book without paying the £/€100 deposit.
This means you can secure your spot with a £/€0 deposit and you will only pay once the trip is confirmed.
Once the departure is confirmed, the deposit will be automatically charged according to the agreed terms.
What does the "Available" status mean?

to-confirm.svg

An "Available" departure means that the trip isn’t confirmed yet and we’re waiting for a few more travellers to sign up… which could be you!

If you book the trip please wait for it to be confirmed before booking your international flights.

What is the Money Pot and how does it work?

The question of all questions! Here’s some more information:

  • The Money Pot is a common fund collected in local currency from all travellers on the trip and managed by your Travel Coordinator.
  • It is used to streamline payments for extra activities, goods and services that the whole group decides to do. This guarantees flexibility in choosing activities and excursions at the destination in line with the mood of the group.
  • It is typically collected on the first day of the trip in local currency, although at times, the Travel Coordinator may ask for it to be paid before departure.
  • You’ll find the Money Pot amount on the website under the section ‘What’s included in the Money Pot’. To find this look for ‘What’s included’, scroll down to ‘Money Pot? Click here’ and you’ll find the details.
  • The amount varies depending on the destination chosen.
  • It is usually used for group expenses that all travellers decide to take part in, but sometimes if you opt out of an activity it might make more sense for it to come out of the Money Pot. In these cases the Coordinator will return the amount for this activity back to you at the end of the trip.
  • It is estimated based on the experience of other groups but can vary depending on what activities your group is keen for. As such, the Travel Coordinator may need to increase the amount during the trip.
  • If not all of the Money Pot is spent, the difference will be returned to all travellers at the end of the trip.
  • The Money Pot also covers the Travel Coordinator’s share of the activities included in the Money Pot, except for those activities that are free for the Travel Coordinator.
  • If you pay in advance for part of the Money Pot before the trip for certain non-refundable optional activities, unfortunately, the amount cannot be refunded if the trip is cancelled.
What payment methods can I use?

We offer several payment methods to fit every need:

1. Credit or debit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express);
2. Instalment payment with Klarna (you’ll pay for the trip in three equal amounts);
3. PayPal (for selected destinations);
4. Revolut Pay to pay even faster straight from your Revolut account.

Can I cancel or modify my booking?

Anyone who books a WeRoad trip has the option to cancel or modify the trip – including both the dates and the destination – free of charge up to 31 days before departure. In case of cancellation up to 31 days before departure, you will receive a 100% refund of the WeRoad trip price. If you make a change, a price adjustment will be applied to the new trip chosen – meaning, if the new trip is cheaper, we will refund the difference; if it’s more expensive, you will need to pay the difference.

If you’ve purchased the Flexible Cancellation Option (which you can add in the first step of the booking process), you can request a cancellation or trip change until 8 days before departure. In case of cancellation, you’ll receive a 100% refund of the WeRoad trip price, minus the cost of the Flexible Cancellation option.

You can do it directly from your personal MyWeRoad account!

Within your booking you will find the "Change Your Trip" section at the bottom right, just underneath your booking details. You will be able to select a different date for the same trip, or a different trip entirely. Whether you are able to change the trip depends on the cancellation terms of your booking. For your original booking if you selected the Private Room, Flexible Cancellation or entered any discount code, gift card or voucher, before confirming the change we will let you know if anything isn't applicable to the new trip and you can decide whether to proceed or not. If you have any issues please do get in touch with the WeRoad team and we'll be able to help.

It's not possible to move to a 'sold out' trip and with any trips that are 'on request' we will need to check availability with our local partners so please do get in touch if you want to move to an 'on request' trip. Please bear in mind that if the trip has the 'final spots' status, there may be no places left in either the male or female room.

How to request a cancellation or change to your trip? Send us an email at [email protected] or a WhatsApp on +447716573700. Please share the booking reference for the trip you want to cancel or change, and, in case of a change, the new trip you would like to join.

What type of accommodation should I expect on your trips?

For our trips we usually use locally owned accommodation instead of big hotel chains. It’s our favourite way to really experience the local culture and, whenever we can, support the local economy. Typically, you’ll stay in hotels, apartments, guesthouses and hostels with the same standard maintained across all trips in the same destination.

The list of accommodation for your trip will be shared with you by your Travel Coordinator 2-5 days before departure, along with other useful details for your adventure!

Can I find out my travel groups' flights?

Yes! We might not know the flights for everyone else in the group, but there are ways to find out which flights your fellow WeRoaders will be taking.

1. All travellers can share their flight details after booking on their My WeRoad account so that other travellers on the same trip can see these details anonymously.

2. Alternatively you can join our Facebook group: Solo Travellers | WeRoad Community – (here is the extended link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/963298767843213 ) Look for a post about the trip you’re interested in or ask the group admin for help in getting in touch with your future travel companions!

3. If the Coordinator has already been assigned to the trip you’re keen for, you can easily find their Facebook post on the website. Click 'Ask the Coordinator' and follow the link here.

How is a group made up in average?

Our groups usually consist of 8–12 travellers, with a minimum of 3–4 and a maximum of 15.
Everyone on our trips speaks English, and travellers join us from across the UK, Europe and beyond. Our trips are open to travelers between 25 and 49 years old. The indicated age is meant to give you an idea of the type of group, but it's not a strict limit: it's possible to participate even with a few years more or less, as long as you can keep up with the pace and energy of the group you're traveling with.

Each group will be joined and led by one of our experienced Travel Coordinators, who’s there to ensure everything runs smoothly and the group feels well-supported.

If you’d like to know more about our typical WeRoad groups do reach out to us on WhatsApp on +44 7716573700.

Can I see who’s in the group before I book the trip?

Yes! If you're curious, you can take a sneak peek at the group before booking.
You’ll find the info in the ‘Group’ section for each trip on the departures page, showing how many WeRoaders have already booked.

Click the little arrow and you’ll even see their gender and ages – but hey, that’s exclusive info, so we’ll ask you to log in or sign up to see that!

If a location is mentioned, is it guaranteed that we’ll spend the night there?

For some trips, in the itinerary section, you’ll find the number of nights and the location (not the hotel) where you’ll be spending the night(s). The location shown is the one we usually go for on most trips, but in some cases, you might stay in a nearby town. This will depend on logistics or availability of accommodation.

The list of accommodation for your trip (and therefore also the exact locations) will be shared by your Travel Coordinator 2-5 days before departure, along with other useful information for your adventure!

Who is the Travel Coordinator and what is their role on the trip?

The WeRoad Travel Coordinator is an experienced and skilled traveller who will be the perfect companion for your trip. They will manage all the logistical aspects of the itinerary like transport, timings, accommodation, restaurant bookings and meeting points, so that you can enjoy the trip without this hassle. They’re there to support the group, ensure everything runs smoothly and will no doubt make the trip a lot of fun along the way too!

The Coordinator will set up a WhatsApp group approximately 2 weeks before departure. This will be the moment to ask any pre-departure questions and get to know the rest of the group! If the trip you are interested in already has a Travel Coordinator assigned, you can contact them before booking. Their details will be on the trip page, or you can search for their name here. After booking, you will find their contact details in your My WeRoad account, under ‘Bookings and Trips’ > ‘Your Upcoming Trips’ > ‘Trip Details’.

Will I be sharing a room?

Yes, on all our trips you will share a room with other WeRoaders in your group. By default this will be people of the same gender, unless you tick ‘I'm OK with a mixed gender room’ when you book. The bathroom will either be private or shared only with other travellers on the trip. The rooms might be twins, triples, quadruples or multi-share (up to 8 people in exceptional cases), depending on the destination and availability.

You will never share with people from outside of the WeRoad group, except in certain cases for local experiences, which are specifically mentioned in the itinerary or communicated before booking. These typically involve specific nights in unique accommodation like tents, homestays, or camping, offering a more adventurous travel experience in exchange for some comfort.

On some of our trips we can offer a private room for an additional cost. Just tick the ‘Private Room’ option at checkout to get this added. For some of our trips if you book as two travellers together you can add this private room free of charge. Look out for this option at checkout.

Please note that if you do book a private room with a friend/partner this could be either a double or a twin room so please email [email protected] if you have a preference on this.

How can I be part of the WeRoad community?

When you set off on a WeRoad trip, you’re officially a WeRoader – and as we often say, 'once a WeRoader, always a WeRoader'. This means that once you’re part of the community, a little piece of WeRoad will always stay with you.

But you’re not just a WeRoader during your trips, far from it! The community is alive and active all year round: you can stay in touch by following and interacting on our social media channels, like the Facebook group or the Instagram profile. You can also come along to one of our many events that we run in different cities worldwide. Check out and sign up to our events by downloading the WeMeet app here
