Itinerary
This Athens weekend gives us three days in the most cosmopolitan city in Europe, all together in true WeRoad style, chasing the authentic Greek soul. We savour local flavours with a refined tasting of typical wines and dishes in charming traditional taverns, then get lost in the centre of Athens and its stunning Acropolis, with the magnificent Parthenon watching over the city. A local guide takes us back into ancient Greece, the cradle of our civilisation. We also reach the majestic Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion, by the sea, for a breathtaking sunset. And we say goodbye strolling through Athens' most vintage and authentic neighbourhoods, where the real local culture still runs on tradition, energy and pure wonder.

Welcome to Athens and its historic centre
1 night: Athens
Wine tasting and taverna night
Flights to and from the destination aren't included in the package, so you can freely decide where to fly from, at what time, and with which airline, to ensure maximum flexibility. We'll meet at the accommodation in Athens around 3:00 PM, (and we gather for welcome meeting— click here to see how it works!) right in the city centre, following the instructions you'll receive from your Group Leader before departure.
This is where our journey officially begins, in one of Europe's most fascinating and cosmopolitan capitals. Bags down, and we're already out the door.
- A first stroll through the historic city, an authentic gem of alleys, charming views and timeless atmospheres, with the group finding its rhythm on Athens' pavements.
- Along the way we stop at a local winery for a Greek wine tasting, the quickest way to connect with the region's wine tradition before dinner.
- Then a real Greek dinner at a typical taverna: live music, traditional dances, authentic flavours, gyros, pita, moussaka and Greek yogurt. And that's just the beginning!

Athens by e-bike and Cape Sounion sunset
1 night: Athens
Acropolis, Parthenon and street food lunch
Yesterday we walked, today we roll: the centre flows by on e-bikes, light and fun. Can't ride a bike? No worries, we'll figure it out together 😉
- A local guide leads us through iconic views and lesser-known corners, then the special stop: the Acropolis, beating heart of Greek history and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
- It holds Ancient Greece's most incredible structures — Parthenon, Propylaea, Erechtheion, Temple of Athena Nike — symbols of Athens' ambition as the most powerful city of its time.
- Between millennia-old temples and breathtaking city views, lunch finally arrives with an Acropolis view: Athenian street food, souvlaki, pita, authentic flavours, a mix of taste and energy.
Temple of Poseidon above the sea
- In the early afternoon a transfer reaches Cape Sounion, about an hour and a half from Athens, one of the most exciting spots in all of Greece.
- There the Temple of Poseidon perches majestically above the sea, with one of the most spectacular sunsets imaginable; then, depending on the season, dinner in Cape Sounion or back in Athens, authentic Greek traditions at a typical taverna, delicious food, convivial atmosphere.

Monastiraki, Psiri and the Varvakios Market
Greek coffee and a farewell toast
Last morning, and we give it to the most authentic and vibrant neighbourhoods, where Athens shows its traditional side. Until the next WeRoad adventure!
- We kick off in Monastiraki, a perfect blend of history and modernity, where markets and stalls tempt us with unique souvenirs and little vintage treasures.
- Then Psiri, bohemian heart of the city, with artisan workshops, colourful street art and hidden cafes, perfect for a relaxed break between one find and the next.
- The Varvakios Central Market explodes with aromas, colours and flavours: local street food, a quick pita, a traditional pastry, a strong Greek coffee to say goodbye.
- For anyone keen on Greek history and culture, and depending on return flight times, we'll discuss the Acropolis Museum, then one last toast, group photos and a warm farewell.
