Itinerary

Five days in Naples and the Amalfi Coast, through the historical wonders of Campania: pizza and nightlife in Naples, the archaeological site of Pompeii, an afternoon in Sorrento, the 8 km Path of the Gods from Agerola to Positano, a ferry day trip to Capri. Four nights in Naples, between history, sea, hiking and food.

A sunlit public square featuring a large domed building with a classical colonnade, with people and statues scattered throughout.

Check-in: our adventure starts in Naples

We land in Naples, where five days in Southern Italy begin, and drop our bags at the accommodation before the evening starts.

  • Dinner is a feast of Neapolitan cuisine, buffalo mozzarella included, and a first taste of the city we sleep in for the next four nights.

  • The night does not stop there: Naples' nightlife pulls us into its clubs and entertainment venues, which is how the group gets to know itself.

A large underground catacomb with rough-hewn stone pillars and arches, illuminated by blue and yellow lights.

Pompeii

Early start, hearty breakfast and more Neapolitan pastries, to fuel up for the day ahead. Today is the archaeology day.

  • We hop on a train to Pompeii and reach the extensive archaeological site with no rush, since there are plenty of hours to spend inside it.

  • Our must-see list runs through the Forum, the House of the Faun, the Villa of the Mysteries, the Teatro Grande, the Teatro Piccolo and the Garden of the Fugitives.

Sorrento

  • Then the train back along the coast to Sorrento, a scenic ride and a slower afternoon, before we return to Naples for another evening in the city.

A colorful village built on a steep cliffside is illuminated at dusk, overlooking a calm bay filled with many boats.

Path of the Gods

After history and food, the trip turns to nature: early start, breakfast, and we make our way to Agerola in comfortable shoes.

  • From Agerola we set out on the Path of the Gods, an 8 km walk starting at 600 metres above sea level, roughly four hours through Mediterranean foliage and quaint villages.

  • The deep blue sea of the Amalfi Coast stays with us the whole way, stopping us often for photographs, before lunch at Nocelle for the scenery and local specialties.

Arriving in Positano

  • We finish the hike with Positano's colourful cliffside houses ahead, swim if the weather allows, take a seaside aperitif, then head back to Naples, maybe for sausage and broccoli.

An aerial view of a green, rocky coastline with white buildings, overlooking a blue sea with many boats and two large rock stacks at sunset.
A verdant cliffside with white houses overlooks a blue sea with numerous boats and two large rock stacks during sunset.

La dolce vita on the island

If yesterday left no time to sail to Capri from Positano, today is the day: one island, then one food tour.

  • After a scenic journey down the coast we board a ferry across the sparkling Tyrrhenian Sea to Capri, one of the most iconic islands in Italy.

  • On the island we stroll the elegant streets of Capri town, the hidden alleys of Anacapri and the views from Monte Solaro, with the Blue Grotto if the weather permits, or a spritz.

  • We ferry back in the late afternoon, and in Naples a local expert leads a food tour: sfogliatella at a historic pastry shop, a cuoppo at Pignasecca market, then fried pizza for the farewell dinner.

An aerial view of a sprawling coastal city and its busy port at the foot of a large volcano under a warm-toned sunset sky.

Check-out and goodbyes

The last morning is a short one: bags packed, the group splits up at the accommodation, and Naples carries on without us.

  • Check-out happens at the accommodation, and from that point the trip's services end, so whatever is left of the day belongs to each of us.

  • Then it is goodbyes, with airport transfers left to each of us to arrange, and the invitation to meet again on the next WeRoad adventure.
