Itinerary

Rome in a weekend: two nights, a Trastevere trattoria dinner, a guided Saturday through the Colosseum, Roman and Imperial Forums, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps, then a free last morning.

An illuminated dome rises over a city skyline at night, with a stone bridge and streetlights reflecting in the river below.

Arrival and first taste of Rome

We reach Rome in the late afternoon, check in, and start the weekend the way a Roman would: on foot.

  • From there we walk to Trastevere, one of the capital's best-loved neighbourhoods, all cobblestones, narrow streets under soft lights and the sound of Roman folk songs.

  • Dinner is in a trattoria, working through the typical Roman plates we came for: carbonara, amatriciana or cacio e pepe, whichever the table votes for.

A high-angle view of ancient ruins, including arches and columns, with a historic city skyline under a blue sky.

Classic Rome, a stroll through history

Saturday belongs to the city: breakfast at a local cafe, then a walking tour that is nothing like a history lesson.

  • We start in the quieter streets of Trastevere, cross Tiber Island and the Jewish Ghetto on our guide's stories and fun facts, and reach the Pantheon.

Fountains, squares, and a touch of magic

  • The afternoon crosses the historic centre: Piazza Navona, the Colosseum for a selfie with one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World, the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps.

Saturday night, our way

  • After all those kilometres, dinner is round two of Roman cooking: carbonara again, a gricia, or a carciofo alla giudia if artichokes are in season.

An aerial view of a grand basilica with a large dome and a vast colonnaded piazza, overlooking a sprawling city at sunrise.

Morning spent exploring markets, soaking in views, and capturing postcard-perfect moments

The last morning in Rome offers a choice between street level and rooftop, and both are local in their own way.

  • Option A is the Porta Portese market, where we dig through vinyl, books and vintage treasures in that unmistakable buzz of lively chaos and unique finds.

  • Option B is 551 steps up the Dome of St. Peter's, where all of Rome opens out below and we salute the Eternal City from above.
