Itinerary

Picture this: You're floating in crystal-clear turquoise water, face-to-face with the ocean's gentle giant—a whale shark—as it glides past you in the warm Indian Ocean. Hours later, you're sailing on a traditional wooden dhow toward a deserted island, dolphins dancing in your wake. By sunset, you're barefoot on golden sand, watching the sky turn pink over one of Africa's last truly untouched paradises.

Welcome to Mozambique—where mass tourism hasn't arrived yet, and the adventure never stops.

This 10-day journey delivers the ultimate beach-and-bush combo: snorkelling with manta rays and whale sharks in Tofo (one of Earth's top spots for these encounters) (season dependent), diving vibrant coral reefs, surfing warm waves, and exploring the Bazaruto Archipelago— paradise islands so stunning they'll redefine "tropical escape." Think white-sand beaches you'll have almost entirely to yourself, seafood lunches on uninhabited islands, and ocean colours you didn't know existed.

But here's the kicker: swap your beach towel for a tented safari camp and venture into Zinave National Park, where elephants roam freely, rhinos graze at dusk, and hippos serenade you to sleep under African stars.

From the Afro-Latin energy of Maputo's streets (alive with peri-peri grills and Portuguese colonial charm) to laid-back surf town Tofo, to the postcard-perfect lagoons of Vilanculos, Mozambique is Africa's best-kept secret.

This isn't just a trip. It's whale sharks at breakfast, dhow sails at lunch, and wildlife under the stars. The kind of adventure you'll talk about for years.

Ready to dive in? Mozambique is waiting.

Welcome to Maputo: Peri-Peri & Portuguese Soul

Your Mozambique adventure begins the moment you land in this electric capital city. Maputo pulses with an intoxicating blend of African rhythm and Portuguese colonial elegance—think pastel-colored buildings, palm-fringed avenues, and the irresistible aroma of peri-peri chicken sizzling on street-side grills. After settling into your accommodation, the city is yours to explore. Wander the vibrant Mercado Central, sip espresso at a sidewalk café watching the world go by, or stroll along the waterfront promenade as the Indian Ocean sparkles in the distance. Tonight, gather with your fellow adventurers for a welcome dinner—this is where friendships begin and the excitement builds for the incredible journey ahead.

Flights to/from are not included in the package, so you can decide which airport to depart from, at what time, and with which airline you prefer... This gives you maximum freedom of choice!

Coastal Escape: Road Trip to Surf Town Tofo

Buckle up for one of Africa’s most scenic coastal drives. Our private minibus winds along Mozambique’s stunning shoreline, passing through sleepy fishing villages, endless cashew plantations, and dramatic ocean vistas that’ll have your camera working overtime. This is the real Mozambique—untouched, authentic, and breathtakingly beautiful.

By afternoon, we roll into Tofo, a laid-back surf town where reggae beats drift from beach bars and the vibe is pure tropical paradise. Drop your bags and dive straight into the action—experienced kitesurfers can catch the legendary winds, snorkelers can explore the nearby reefs teeming with life, or simply grab a sundowner at a beachfront bar and watch the sky explode in shades of orange and pink. The ocean adventure officially begins tonight.

Swimming with Giants: Tofo’s Marine Playground

Welcome to one of the planet’s most extraordinary marine destinations. Tofo isn’t just famous—it’s legendary. These warm, plankton-rich waters are a magnet for whale sharks, manta rays, dolphins, and, during migration season (June-September), humpback whales breach just meters from shore. Today is entirely yours to create the ocean adventure you’ve been dreaming about. Snorkel alongside gentle whale sharks (the world’s largest fish!), dive the iconic manta cleaning stations, catch your first wave in surf lessons, or simply float in the impossibly blue Indian Ocean. Between adventures, explore Tofo’s colourful beach cafés, sip fresh coconut water in a hammock, or join the group for sunset drinks. The ocean is calling—how will you answer?

Gateway to Paradise: Arriving in Vilanculos

After breakfast, we continue our journey north to Vilanculos—the gateway to one of Africa’s most spectacular island archipelagos. The landscape shifts as we travel: rural villages give way to coastal vistas, and anticipation builds with every kilometre. Arriving in Vilanculos feels like stepping into a postcardturquoise lagoons stretch endlessly, colourful dhow boats bob in the harbour, and the famous Bazaruto islands shimmer on the horizon. The afternoon is deliciously unscheduled: wade into the bath-warm ocean, browse local craft markets for handmade treasures, or simply relax at your accommodation with a cold Laurentina beer and soak in the fact that you’re now in one of the Indian Ocean’s most beautiful corners. Paradise officially begins here.

Island Vibes: Free Day in Vilanculos

Wake up to the sound of gentle waves and seabirds calling—there’s no rush today. Vilanculos is your oyster, offering the perfect balance between total relaxation and heart-pumping adventure. This coastal town has a magnetic charm: friendly locals greet you with genuine smiles, fishermen haul in the day’s catch on wooden dhows, and the beaches stretch for miles with barely a footprint in sight. Feeling adventurous? Kayak across mirror-like waters, explore vibrant coral reefs on a dive, or gallop along the beach on horseback as the sun sets. Prefer to decompress? Find your perfect beach spot, dive into that book you’ve been meaning to read, and let Mozambique time work its magic. Tonight, swap stories with your crew over fresh seafood.

Bazaruto Bliss: Sailing to Untouched Islands

Today is the day you’ve been waiting for—the absolute highlight of the entire trip. Step aboard a speedboat and cruise across to the legendary Bazaruto Archipelago weather permitting, a protected marine park that looks like it’s been photoshopped into reality. Massive sand dunes rise from turquoise lagoons, coral reefs explode with tropical fish, and the beaches are so pristine they squeak underfoot. Spend the day snorkelling in crystal-clear water (keep your eyes peeled for dolphins and dugongs!), exploring deserted islands, and feasting on freshly grilled seafood served on the sand. This is the kind of day that doesn’t feel real—the kind you’ll describe to friends back home and they won’t quite believe you. Pure, unfiltered paradise.

Choose Your Adventure: Tented Safari

Option 1: Zinave Safari Experience — Trade your beach towel for binoculars and venture deep into Zinave National Park (4-5 hour journey). This conservation success story is home to thriving populations of elephants, rhinos, giraffes, antelopes, zebras, and incredible birdlife. Your afternoon game drive reveals Africa’s wild soul, and as darkness falls, you’ll settle into a rustic tented bush camp. Fall asleep to the symphony of hippos grunting in nearby waters and wake tomorrow to another magical game drive before returning to Vilanculos.

Island Magic: Santa Carolina & Turtle Encounters

Today's adventure takes you to one of the archipelago’s most enchanting secrets—Santa Carolina Island, locally known as Paradise Island (and yes, it absolutely lives up to the name). Step off the boat onto pristine white sand and spend the morning snorkelling in turquoise waters teeming with sea turtles. These graceful creatures seem slow on land, but try keeping up with them underwater—it’s an exhilarating challenge! Beyond the beach, explore the hauntingly beautiful ruins of an abandoned Portuguese colonial hotel, where Bob Dylan once stayed and penned his famous song “Mozambique.” History and paradise collide in the most unexpected way. After a fresh seafood lunch on the beach, we’ll sail back to Vilanculos in the afternoon. Tonight, gather at a local beachfront restaurant for dinner and sunset stories with the group.

Vilanculos Vibes: Culture & Firefly Magic

Safari adventurers return mid-morning with wild stories and camera rolls full of elephants, while the beach crew welcomes them back with tales of their own. Now reunited, the group enjoys one final full day in this coastal paradise. By now, you’ve found your favourite beach spot, your go-to café, maybe even made friends with local fishermen. Use today however your soul desires—perhaps that horse ride along the dunes you’ve been eyeing, one last snorkel in those impossibly clear waters, or simply claiming a piece of sand and watching the world slow down around you. Wander the vibrant central markets, haggling for handwoven fabrics and exotic fruits, or visit a traditional tailor for custom-made Mozambican clothing. Experience authentic dance performances, then share lunch with a local family, tasting matapa—cassava leaves in rich peanut shellfish sauce. Or opt for a magical experience, a canoe safari up the Guvuro River at sunset.

Sunset Journey: Return to Maputo

All good things must eventually come full circle. After one last sunrise over the Vilanculos coastline (set that alarm—it’s worth it), we pack up and begin our scenic journey back to where it all started. This full-day road trip is your chance to reflect on the incredible memories you’ve made: the whale sharks, the dhow sails, the new friends, the sunsets that painted the sky in impossible colours. Watch rural Mozambique pass by your window—small villages, roadside markets, coastal stretches—each scene a reminder of this country’s unspoiled beauty. We arrive in Maputo by early evening with time for one final group celebration. Hit up a local restaurant for a farewell dinner, explore the night markets, or simply walk the waterfront together, already planning when you’ll return.

Until Next Time: Farewell to Mozambique

Enjoy a leisurely final breakfast as you exchange contact information and promise to share photos. There’s a bittersweet feeling in the air—you’re leaving with a camera full of memories, a heart full of gratitude, and probably a bit of sand still in your luggage. Mozambique has a way of getting under your skin; it’s not just a destination you visit, but a place that becomes part of your story. As you head to the airport, you’re already different from the person who arrived ten days ago. You’ve swum with giants, sailed to paradise islands, slept under African stars, and discovered one of the world’s last great secrets. Mozambique isn’t goodbye—it’s “until we meet again.”
