Itinerary
Albania in winter has a unique charm, blending ancient traditions with a vibrant modern spirit. This small Balkan gem, once off the radar, is now opening its doors to curious travelers in search of an authentic, off-the-beaten-path adventure.
Our journey begins in Tirana, a colorful capital where street art meets trendy cafés and the buzz of a city in transformation. Heading south, we dive into UNESCO World Heritage treasures: Berat, the “city of a thousand windows,” and Gjirokastër, famous for its hilltop fortress and picturesque Ottoman houses.
Along the way, every stop is an immersion into Albanian culture: medieval castles, fascinating museums, and archaeological sites that whisper centuries of history. The archaeological park of Butrint, mysterious and timeless, takes us straight back to Antiquity. For those seeking a shot of adrenaline, we’ll go rafting on the wild Vjosa River, Europe’s last great wild river, before slowing down with a well-deserved soak in the natural hot springs of Përmet.
We end our trip back in Tirana, carrying with us the memories of breathtaking landscapes, authentic Albanian flavors, and—above all—the warmth of a people proud of their traditions.
A winter journey through Albania is more than just a trip: it’s a deep dive into a wild and authentic land, where art, culture, and nature intertwine to create an unforgettable adventure.

From Tirana to Berat: where our adventure kicks off
1 night: Berat
Breathtaking landscapes, ancient history and authentic flavors in the heart of Albania
Ready to go? The day starts early in Tirana, a capital that blends vibrant energy with layers of history. After breakfast, our private minivan is waiting: we head south, leaving behind the urban buzz to cross rolling green hills and villages where time feels frozen. The ride is perfect for chatting, sharing music, and snapping those first travel shots.
After a few hours, we reach Berat, the “City of a Thousand Windows”. We wander through its cobbled streets, admire the Ottoman houses, and soak up the magical view over red rooftops and the surrounding mountains.
In the afternoon, a local wine tasting introduces us to the region’s authentic flavors. And in the evening, a traditional Albanian dinner awaits us: qofte, tavë kosi, and of course, a good glass of wine.
Berat is the perfect balance between culture and relaxation… and this is only the beginning!

Rafting on the wild Vjosa and the natural hot springs of Përmet
1 night: Gjirokastra
Adrenaline-filled rafting adventure on the wild Vjosa River
Ready for a new day of adventure on the road? We wake up in Berat, even more magical in the morning light. After breakfast with a view of the hills, we head towards Përmet for an unforgettable experience: rafting on the Vjosa River.
This river, one of the last wild waterways in Europe, is a true hidden gem of southern Albania. Its turquoise waters snake through canyons, cliffs, and untouched forests, offering postcard-perfect landscapes. The rapids bring just the right mix of adrenaline and fun, all in complete safety thanks to expert guides who will also share stories and insights about the surrounding nature.
Carried by the current, we soak in the scenery and live unique moments in this untamed land. Rafting on the Vjosa is more than just an activity: it’s a full immersion into Albanian nature. Ready to dive into the adrenaline?
From adrenaline to pure relaxation: the hot springs of Përmet
After the thrills of the morning, it’s time to unwind at the Përmet hot springs, known as the Bënja baths. Nestled in the Langarica Canyon, their 28–30° waters, rich in sulfur and minerals, are famous for their benefits on skin, breathing, and joints. Just 14 km from Përmet, these natural pools, surrounded by limestone cliffs and lush greenery, offer an idyllic setting.
By late afternoon, we arrive in Gjirokastra, a UNESCO World Heritage gem. Nicknamed the “Stone City,” it captivates with its grey houses and well-preserved Ottoman architecture. We wander through its history-filled alleys before enjoying a traditional dinner in a local restaurant, with authentic flavors and breathtaking views.
As night falls, Gjirokastra comes alive: bars, music, and a festive vibe to raise a glass together!

Blue Eye, Butrint and Saranda: the highlights of Albania’s wild south
1 night: Gjirokastra
Epic landscapes, ancient ruins and the magic of timeless towns
An early wake-up call for a day full of discoveries. After breakfast, we leave Gjirokastra and head south, with an unmissable stop at the Blue Eye, a natural spring of turquoise, crystal-clear waters — a true wonder of nature.
We then continue to Butrint, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most fascinating places in the Balkans. Surrounded by lush nature, the ruins tell stories of Greek, Roman, and Byzantine civilizations. We’ll spend two to three hours immersed in this unique atmosphere where history and nature intertwine.
At lunchtime, we reach Saranda, a charming coastal town where we enjoy local specialties — especially fresh fish — with a sea view.
In the afternoon, we return to Gjirokastra for a guided walk through its cobbled streets and stone houses. The day ends with a traditional dinner, followed by a lively evening between bars and lounges.

From Gjirokastra to Tirana: the perfect finale in Albania’s vibrant capital
