Itinerary

When we think of a California road trip, we picture the Golden Gate, Big Sur cliffs, and LA sunsets... and yes, we’ll hit them all.
But this trip is more than ticking boxes—it’s about living the coast for real. We start in San Francisco, biking across the Golden Gate Bridge and soaking up the city vibes, before hitting the road along the Pacific Coast Highway. Big Sur delivers the drama, with ocean views that make you forget your camera roll is already full.

Then comes Santa Barbara, where we slow down for a proper seaside lunch (yes, fresh crab included), before rolling into Los Angeles for Venice Beach, Santa Monica, and that classic sunset at Griffith Observatory.

It’s ocean air, good playlists, spontaneous stops, and a group that won’t feel like strangers for long — just the kind of moments that turn into stories you’ll keep retelling long after the trip is over.

We’ve planned the route—now let’s hit the road.

Check-in

Touchdown in San Francisco. We check in, have the Welcome Meeting, and head out for a first taste of the city: Fisherman’s Wharf, sea lions doing their thing, and those famous hilly streets that look easy to climb on Google Maps (they’re not).

A row of colorful Victorian houses with a modern city skyline in the background during sunset, seen from a grassy park.

Today we do something iconic

Today we do something iconic—the right way. We hop on bikes and ride across the Golden Gate Bridge: wind, ocean, skyline, and a lot of “wait, one more photo.” On the other side, Sausalito: waterfront views, relaxed vibes, and lunch that hits better after a ride. We head back by ferry (because the skyline from the water deserves its moment). In the afternoon we can head to the pier for a drink and explore the neighborhoods of the city.

A winding road runs along a rugged coastline with rocky shores, turquoise water, and lush green trees under a clear sky.

Hit the road

Today we pick up the cars and hit the road. This is where the trip becomes a road trip. Driving the Pacific Coast Highway through Big Sur is exactly as good as you’ve heard—maybe better. We stop when the view tells us to: Bixby Bridge, McWay Falls, and a few “just five minutes” pull-offs that won’t be five minutes. We end the day in San Luis Obispo—easygoing, perfect to reset.

An amusement park pier with a Ferris wheel and roller coaster on a beach, viewed as waves wash ashore during sunset.

Mediterranean vibes, palm trees, ocean breeze

Back on the road, still no rush. We break the drive with a stop in Santa Barbara—Mediterranean vibes, palm trees, ocean breeze. This is where we slow down properly: seaside lunch with fresh seafood (yes, crab if we play it right). Then final stretch to Los Angeles. First contact with LA energy: Venice Beach (characters included) and Santa Monica for sunset.

We explore the essentials

LA is big, messy, and yet iconic. We explore the essentials—Hollywood, Beverly Hills, maybe Downtown—or we split and follow different vibes. Late afternoon, we head up to the highlight: Griffith Observatory at sunset. Golden light, skyline stretching forever, and that “this feels like a movie” moment.

Departure (the “that went fast” moment)

Last coffee, last ocean look, last group jokes that somehow became a thing. Then it’s goodbye—or more like “see you on the next Weroad trip,” because trips like this have a way of turning into something that doesn’t really end.
