Italy: Hiking the Dolomites' Tre Cime & E-Biking the Prosecco Hills

Itinerary
Eight days trekking through the Dolomites and Veneto, starting and ending in Mestre. We e-bike the Prosecco hills of Valdobbiadene, visit Canova's house-museum in Possagno and Asolo, then the castles of Zumelle and Castelbrando above Cison di Valmarino.
Higher up: Mount Lagazuoi through a World War I tunnel to 2752 m, 9 km around Tre Cime di Lavaredo, and Lake Braies on foot or by wooden boat. The last day is Venice. Nature and altitude lead, castles and wine fill the rest.

Welcome to Italy, check-in in Mestre
1 night: Mestre
Check-in and welcome meeting
We meet in Mestre, part of the Metropolitan City of Venice and the base of this trip. Once rural land over the Venice Lagoon, Mestre is now a crossroads of north-eastern Italy, with trains and buses to Venice every 10-12 minutes.
Spritz and cicchetti: the town centre is lively, so we start with a spritz and some cicchetto.

Valdobbiadene, Possagno and Asolo
1 night: Conegliano
The land of Prosecco
The car comes out today and the hills take over: wine in the morning, art after lunch!
By e-bike through the vineyards: we pick up e-bikes and ride the hills of Valdobbiadene on our own, one of Italy's renowned wine regions, past vineyards and open vistas.
Winery stops and a tasting? We stop at local wineries to learn about the production process and wine types, then a tasting with cured meats and cheeses.
At Canova's house
After lunch we drive to Possagno.
Canova's house-museum: the home of Antonio Canova, the 19th-century sculptor, keeps the plaster casts he modelled his sculptures on.
Evening in Asolo: late afternoon we continue to Asolo, one of Italy's most beautiful villages, for a drink in the castle garden and a Venetian dinner.

Zumelle Castle and Cison di Valmarino
1 night: Calalzo
A dive into the Middle Ages
Today is medieval: a castle, a cave and a village in the Belluno and Venetian pre-Alps.
Zumelle Castle: near the village of Mel, the 2000-year-old Zumelle Castle was fought over through history and is now restored to its medieval splendour.
Medieval lunch: inside there is a themed lunch in the tastes of the time.
To the Blue Cave: then the Blue Cave and its turquoise water.
Castelbrando and an aperitivo
The afternoon goes to Cison di Valmarino, one of Italy's finest villages, with trails, horse rides and farmhouses serving local delicacies.
Aperitivo at Castelbrando: above the village stands Castelbrando, a castle that sets the scene for an aperitivo of regional produce.

A day at high altitude: Mount Lagazuoi
1 night: Calalzo
High altitude
The highest point of the itinerary, and the day the Dolomites take over from castles and wine!
Through the World War I tunnel: hiking Mount Lagazuoi takes us through a historic tunnel carved during World War I up to 2752 m, one kilometre of history and landscape. It runs about 2 hours and demands some physical exertion.
Prefer the cable car? A cable car option exists too.
Lunch at a mountain hut: lunch is at an authentic alpine hut on the peak.
Views over the Dolomites
Back down from Mount Lagazuoi, the mountains aren't done with us yet.
Last mountain views: we take in the Dolomites all around us before heading back to our accommodation.

Lake Braies
1 night: Calalzo
A jewel in the mountains
A gentler day after the altitude, built around one lake cradled in the middle of the Dolomites: Lake Braies, with panoramas from every angle. We choose how to enjoy it:
A walk around the lake? We follow its perimeter on foot.
Or out on the water? We cross it in a rented wooden boat.
Either way the clean mountain air does the rest, and the pace stays slow.

Tre Cime di Lavaredo, back to Mestre
1 night: Mestre
A postcard-like place
One more Dolomites walk, the most photographed of them all, before the drive back to where we started!
Around the Tre Cime di Lavaredo: from the Auronzo hut at 2400 m we set out on a 9 km panoramic walk around the peaks of Tre Cime di Lavaredo: mostly flat, gentle slopes, suitable for all.
Picnic or hut? Lunch is a picnic on the meadows or at a cosy hut along the trail.
Back to Mestre: at the end of the day we head back to Mestre.

Venice, the city of love
1 night: Mestre
Exploring the city
The last full day is Venice, reached by train or bus across the lagoon. Comfortable shoes on?
Around San Marco: we cross the scenic Ponte della Libertà, then explore on foot or by vaporetto: Piazza San Marco, the Palazzo Ducale, the Basilica di San Marco.
Sunset from the Fondaco dei Tedeschi: at sunset, the panoramic view from the Terrazza del Fondaco dei Tedeschi.
Round the bacari: then the Venetian tradition of going to bacari for an ombretta and cicchetto.

Time to go home
Check-out and goodbye
The last morning is check-out and nothing more, with the group splitting up in Mestre.
Check-out: it happens here, and from that point the trip's services end.
Then it is arrivederci, until the next WeRoad adventure!

This was my Fourth trip with WeRoad and it exceeded my expectations. The itinerary was brilliantly put together, combining incredible hikes, stunning scenery and enough free time to explore at my own pace. Highlights included the turquoise waters of Lake Sorapis, the iconic Tre Cime di Lavaredo, exploring WWI tunnels, canyoning through crystal-clear mountain streams, and finishing with time to discover the beautiful islands and canals of Venice. Everything was well organised, from transport to accommodation, which meant I could focus on enjoying the experience rather than worrying about logistics. The activities offered a great mix of adventure, culture and relaxation, and every day felt different. I came home with unforgettable memories, amazing photos and a real appreciation for the Dolomites. I'd happily travel with WeRoad again.

I had the most incredible week in the Dolomites! The WeRoad team sent regular updates and were really helpful in answering any questions in the lead up to the trip. Our coordinator, Kathryn, ensured everything ran seamlessly and I loved that there was a great level of flexibility, allowing everyone to get what they wanted out of the trip. The trip was also great for meeting like minded and adventurous people, so not only did I have a great experience but I’ve made friends for life. Would strongly recommend to anyone thinking about booking!

The Dolomites with WeRoad was once in a lifetime experience. Such a dream destination could not have been explored in a more adventurous, seamless, and well-organized way. A huge part of that was thanks to Ricca, our trip coordinator whose thoughtfully curated itinerary, adventurous spirit, and ability to navigate unexpected twists along the way made the trip unforgettable. One of the highlights of the trip was well balanced itinerary that included some challenging and rewarding hikes to experience the Dolomites at their very best, while still ensuring we made the most of every day. The schedule was certainly packed, so if you're looking for a quiet weekend lounging by the beach, this may not be the trip for you. However, for those seeking adventure, stunning scenery, and a sense of accomplishment, it strikes the perfect balance. Alongside the hikes, there were also relaxing walks around breathtaking alpine lakes, spa after long trails, and fun activities such as biking and farm ranch visits and unwinding the last day in the city of Venice . What made the experience exceptional was the amazing group of people met by chance and fate, that came together to tick a dream destination off our bucket lists. The memories made together was remarkable as the landscapes themselves. If you're considering a trip to the Dolomites, my answer is a definite yes. And if you're wondering whether to let WeRoad plan your journey, that's an even bigger yes. Don't miss the opportunity, you won't regret it.

Everything about this trip was perfect, I never thought I could meet a group of people so likeminded and happy to do absolutely anything! The pure freedom we experienced throughout the trip was so rewarding and that was down to the whole group but both the coordinator and May mainly.

This is definitely one of the best trips I've ever been on! From the pre-departure, to the actual trip with my amazing guide (Kirsty) and all the friends I've made along the trip to the bittersweet parting of ways towards the end, the entire experience made my heart very full. Super grateful to have joined this trip and for my guide's amazing itinerary and her attitude towards the entire trip. Couldn't have imagined going on a better trip! Would highly highly recommend!
