Nestled in the Andes and known officially as San Francisco de Quito, Quito is a bustling metropolis of over two million residents sprawling across the Andean slopes of central-northern Ecuador. It's the vibrant heart of the country and a nexus of politics, economy, culture and tourism.
Welcome meeting: Arrive at your hotel in Quito for a warm welcome meeting.
A first toast: With toasts in hand, we celebrate the beginning of our journey together.
Let's kickstart this extraordinary adventure!

From Quito to the Amazon

By canoe to AmaZOOnico: In the afternoon we glide by canoe to AmaZOOnico, a wildlife recovery centre and a gateway to an untouched world: acrobatic monkeys, vibrantly plumed birds, majestic turtles and more in the rainforest.
AmaZOOnico is also a beacon of hope for Amazon ecosystem conservation: our visit supports their work protecting flora and fauna.

Misahualli: Dive into Amazonian culture and nature
Local traditions and a free afternoon
A day split between ancient traditions and the jungle. In the afternoon the time is ours, with a few ways to spend it.
Visiting the Misahualli community: In the morning, we visit the indigenous community of Misahualli: ancient traditions, daily life and local craftsmanship passed down through generations.
Slow afternoon? Relax by the banks of the Napo River.
Into the jungle? Venture into the Amazon jungle on a guided trek in search of exotic creatures.
Village stroll? Explore Puerto Misahualli, a charming village steeped in history.
Tomorrow, a new adventure begins!

Adventure lovers, start your engines!
Another journey on the road today, heading towards the magical Baños de Agua Santa: pristine nature and pure adrenaline await!
At the Pailon del Diablo: In the afternoon we challenge the vertigo at the Pailon del Diablo, a breathtaking waterfall that plunges into an 80 meter deep canyon.
Up the stairs: We climb the stairs to admire it from different angles, and yes, we'll get a little wet!
Discovering Baños: Baños is not just this: trekking paths in lush vegetation, thermal springs where you can regenerate and a sparkling atmosphere to discover.

Baños: Thrilling Morning, Relaxing Afternoon!
Rafting or canyoning, then thermal waters
This morning in Baños de Agua Santa promises a series of thrills and a chance to step out of our comfort zone.
Rafting or canyoning? We have the option of rafting on the rapids of the Pastaza River or an extreme canyoning expedition among waterfalls and dizzying gorges.
Thermal waters in the afternoon: Then some well-deserved relaxation in Baños’ renowned thermal waters: in these natural pools with breathtaking scenery we can release tension and rejuvenate body and mind.

Cotopaxi National Park
High Altitude Wonders
Good morning WeRoaders! It's our sixth day of travel: we're now used to the altitude and ready for the real adventure, with an early start for Cotopaxi National Park. The park has three volcanoes, including the renowned Cotopaxi, one of the largest active volcanoes in the world and the second highest in Ecuador at 5,897 meters. It's challenging to climb, but don't worry: we won't be tackling it!
The untouched nature is what truly captivates: over ninety species of birds (hummingbirds, alpine condors, caracaras, ducks, Andean gulls, lapwings) and mammals like deer, hares, Andean foxes and pumas.
Registration and interpretation center: At the southern entrance of the park, we complete the travelers' registration and visit the interpretation center to learn about biodiversity, the volcano and the Andes mountain range.
Guided hike to Limpiopungo: Along the winding paths beneath the snow-capped volcano we keep our eyes peeled for foxes, white-tailed deer and Brazilian rabbits, then continue to Limpiopungo Lagoon, one of the most iconic landscapes in the park.
Loop or extra challenge? Depending on weather conditions and the group’s preferences, we hike around the entire lagoon or, for an extra challenge, continue to the José Rivas Mountain Refuge or the Rumiñahui Central Base. The local partner advises on the options based on weather and road conditions: safety always comes first.
Back to Quito: Then we head back to Quito for the night.

Discovering Quito
Historic center, market and local flavours
Finally, it's time to explore Quito! We begin with a couple of hours on a walking tour.
Through the historic center: An expert guide leads us through the historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage site: Plaza de la Independencia with its colonial buildings and the neo-Gothic Basílica del Voto Nacional.
Free afternoon at the market? We can wander through the vibrant stalls of Mercado San Francisco for local delicacies and unique souvenirs.
Or up the cable car? Alternatively, we can take the Teleférico Quito for a panoramic view of the city.
Dishes to try: Quito is also a city of rich flavours, with traditional dishes we must try: locro de papa (potato soup with meat and cheese), hornado (roast pork with potatoes and avocado) and, for dessert, dulce de leche, a sweet condensed milk treat.

Flying to the Galapagos: Santa Cruz
Las Grietas: The Volcanic Jewel of the Galapagos
Today we reach the Galapagos! We fly from Quito to Baltra and disembark on the enchanting Galapagos Islands.
Lunch at the fishing port: After check-in at our hotel on Santa Cruz Island, we dive straight into the local culinary scene with lunch at the bustling fishing port.
By taxi boat to Las Grietas: In the afternoon a taxi boat takes us to Las Grietas, a geological formation with three narrow, elongated coves between towering lava cliffs: perfect for swimming, snorkelling and sunbathing.
Then Los Alemanes beach? Las Grietas is a national park open until 5 pm, so afterwards we can visit Los Alemanes beach before returning to the hotel.
A first day of incredible landscapes, sea and sun: let's see what else the Galapagos has in store for us!

Isabela's Treasures: Snorkelling in Cabo Rosa
Between Lava Mysteries and Marine Wonders
Good morning WeRoaders! We're up early to travel from Santa Cruz to Isabela, the largest island in the Galapagos.
Snorkelling at The Tunnels: On arrival we discover The Tunnels (Cabo Rosa): underwater lava tunnels carved by nature, an aquatic playground for snorkelling.
In a natural aquarium: We swim among tropical fish of a thousand colours, giant starfish and seahorses moving among the gorgonians, as sunlight filters through the cracks of the lava tunnels.
Lunch, then back to Isabela: As part of the tour we enjoy a delicious lunch made with fresh local products, then in the afternoon we return to Isabela for our first night on the island.

Hiking the Sierra Negra and Chico Volcanoes
Lava landscapes and volcanic views
Early wake-up: today we're heading somewhere truly epic! After breakfast we meet our local Naturalist Guide and set off for the Sierra Negra Volcano.
Along the crater rim: We hike along the edge of one of the largest volcanic craters in the world: Sierra Negra’s caldera is almost 10 km wide. The scenic trail across the rim is 4 km, with views over lava fields and volcanic formations.
Eyes open for wildlife: This ecosystem is home to Darwin’s finches, lava lizards and the rare Galápagos warbler finch. With some luck, we might even spot a giant tortoise!
On to Chico Volcano: The hike continues to Chico Volcano, across solidified lava flows in shades of red, black and orange, lava cacti and active fumaroles where you can feel the heat and see gases escaping from the Earth.
After a morning on the wildest side of the Galápagos, we head back around lunchtime.
Time to relax on Isabela’s beaches
In the afternoon we have options, and after this morning's hike we may simply want to relax.
Beach time? Sun, sea and tranquility on Isabela’s beach.
Energy to spare? If we still have energy, we can explore the Wall of Tears, a historical site with the remains of an ancient prison camp.
We end the day with dinner at a local restaurant, sharing our experiences and savouring the flavours of Galapagos cuisine.

Back to Santa Cruz: Playa Iguana
Santa Cruz: Relax and recharge your batteries!
Another day, another early wake-up call... yes, it's tough! But there's a good reason: there's only one ferry in the morning, at six o'clock.
Back to Santa Cruz: We bid farewell to Isabela, the island of lava mysteries and marine wonders, and return to Santa Cruz.
Relaxing at Playa Iguana: The rest of the day is pure relaxation at Playa Iguana, a pristine beach with golden sand and Pacific waves.
Among the marine iguanas: As we stroll along the beach, marine iguanas sunbathe on the volcanic rocks and dive into the water in search of their daily meal, while colourful fish dart around.
Batteries recharged: tomorrow we head to our final island, San Cristobal!

San Cristobal: Cerro Tijeretas and Playa Baquerizo
Adventure between nature, history and relaxation
WeRoaders, today we take our last morning ferry (we promise!): from Santa Cruz we reach our last island, San Cristobal, in a couple of hours.
Interpretation Center: Backpacks at the hotel, then a taxi to the Interpretation Center to learn about the history and culture of the Galapagos.
Hike to Cerro Tijeretas: We hike to Cerro Tijeretas, a hill with breathtaking views of the island and the sea, and admire the local wildlife: iguanas, sea birds and sea lions.
Down to Playa Baquerizo: The descent leads to Playa Baquerizo, a pristine beach where we can finally relax: a dip in crystal clear waters, a swim among tropical fish or simply golden sand and sun.

San Cristobal by boat & snorkelling at Kicker Rock
From Bahía Rosa Blanca to León Dormido
Today we set sail early for a full-day adventure around San Cristobal Island with our Naturalist Guide.
Along the eastern coast: Snorkelling in the crystal-clear waters of Bahía Rosa Blanca and relaxing on the white sands of Bahía Sardina.
Seabirds at Punta Pitt: At Punta Pitt we spot seabirds: it's the only place where you can see the three species of boobies. We also pass the dramatic cliffs of Cerro Brujo.
Snorkelling at Kicker Rock: The highlight of the day is León Dormido / Kicker Rock, where we dive into deep waters among reef sharks, sea turtles, rays, sea lions and, if we're lucky, hammerhead sharks.
We return in the afternoon after a day packed with wildlife and ocean views.

Back to Quito
Flying from San Cristobal to Quito
The good news today? We can sleep in until check-out! The bad news? We head back to Quito and say goodbye to the Galapagos.
Flight back to Quito: During the flight we look back on these 14 incredible days between Ecuador and the Galapagos: landscapes, trekking, adventure, adrenaline, excursions and wild nature.

- Accommodation
Please bear in mind that hotel options in the Galápagos Islands are limited, and while we carefully select the best available accommodation for our travellers there are unavoidable infrastructure challenges—both on mainland Ecuador and on the islands. For example certain services, such as hot water, may occasionally be unavailable. These are part of the logistical realities of visiting such a remote and unique destination.
- Domestic flights
For this trip we include domestic flights to and from the Galápagos Islands. Please bear in mind that during the vast majority of these flights the plane will make a technical stopover in Guayaquil. This is usually the case on the outbound journey to the Galápagos, and always the case on the return journey to the mainland. During this stopover passengers remain on the aircraft, wait around 45 minutes before continuing the journey.
- Quito Airport Closure and Itinerary Changes – 2026

Quito airport will be closed for maintenance. If the scheduled domestic flight from the Galápagos Islands falls on one of these days, this trip will undergo an itinerary change: the flight to the Galápagos Islands will be moved to day 7. Thus, the last two nights will be spent in Quito. The program inclusions remain unchanged, simply with a different order of activities. For international flights arriving or departing on these closure days, we recommend checking directly with the airlines for any changes or alternatives.
