Itinerary

Experience the perfect Scandinavian summer with a weekend in Gothenburg, where urban charm meets the beauty of the sea. Wander through the city’s lively neighborhoods, picturesque canals, and vibrant food scene before setting off on a ferry to one of the islands of the Gothenburg Archipelago. Here, car-free roads, rugged coastlines, and peaceful harbors create an idyllic escape from everyday life.

Take time to explore the island at a relaxed pace, following scenic trails that wind through rocky landscapes and offer sweeping views of the sea. A leisurely hike reveals the region’s unique natural beauty, from windswept cliffs to quiet coves perfect for a refreshing break.

The weekend also includes visits to the world-famous Universeum, Scandinavia’s largest science center, and the beautiful Slottskogen Park, home to Nordic animals such as moose, seals, and Gotland ponies. These iconic attractions offer a fascinating glimpse into Sweden’s natural world and innovative spirit.

Back in Gothenburg, spend your final morning enjoying a leisurely Sunday brunch at one of the city’s welcoming cafés. Savor local flavors, soak up the relaxed atmosphere, and reflect on a weekend that perfectly blends culture, nature, and coastal adventure.

City visit!

Our Gothenburg adventure begins in the heart of the city, where elegant boulevards, canals, and lively squares reflect the city's maritime heritage and relaxed Scandinavian atmosphere. We will stroll through the charming district of Haga, Gothenburg's oldest neighborhood, famous for its cobbled streets, colorful wooden houses, independent boutiques, and inviting cafés. Along the way, there will be time to discover local landmarks, browse unique shops, and soak up the vibrant yet laid-back character of Sweden's second-largest city. The day offers the perfect introduction to Gothenburg, blending history, culture, and everyday Swedish life.

Off to the island

A day immersed in the wild beauty of Gothenburg’s southern archipelago awaits. Leaving the mainland behind, we set off across the car-free islands of Styrsö and Donsö, where rugged granite cliffs, picturesque fishing villages, and endless sea views create a landscape of pure Scandinavian charm. Our hike leads us to Stora Rös, the highest point on Styrsö, offering breathtaking panoramas over the archipelago and the open sea beyond.

After a relaxing fika at a local café, the journey continues across a small bridge to Donsö, a tranquil island where nature and maritime traditions blend seamlessly. Here, winding coastal paths reveal hidden coves, sun-warmed rocks, and spectacular vistas at every turn.

As the day draws to a close, we gather by the harbour for a memorable dinner at Isbolaget, savoring the freshest seafood while watching the evening light dance across the water.

Sunday relax

The morning is dedicated to exploring the beautiful Slottsskogen Park, the city’s green heart, where peaceful walking paths wind through woodlands, open meadows, and small lakes. One of the highlights is the opportunity to observe Nordic wildlife, including moose, seals, deer, and Gotland ponies, in a natural and welcoming setting.

After this relaxing immersion in Swedish nature, we gather for a leisurely Sunday brunch, a beloved local tradition. Surrounded by Gothenburg’s warm and inviting atmosphere, we enjoy a selection of Scandinavian specialties, freshly baked treats, and excellent coffee. It is the perfect way to conclude our weekend getaway, reflecting on days filled with coastal landscapes, island adventures, and the unique charm of Sweden’s west coast.

In the afternoon we head to Universeum - the largest scienze center in northern Europe. With its Indoor Rain Forest and Ocean Zone, it will be a visit to remember before we leave Sweden.
