Itinerary

Ready for the dream trip to Indonesia? From Jakarta we cross Java, visiting Hindu and Buddhist temples and trekking on Mount Bromo, Indonesia's most famous active volcano.

Then the Island of the Gods: in Bali we get to know the Balinese, some of the most welcoming and kindest people in the world. We visit the Ubud Monkey Forest, surf in the best spots, then head south to the beaches of Kuta and the spectacular T-Rex cliff. The Gili Islands are the cherry on top: a real heaven on earth, where we swim with sea turtles. Ready to discover Indonesia? See you in Jakarta!

Check-in: our adventure begins in Jakarta

Roundtrip flights or transportation to reach the destination are not included in the package, so you can decide from where and when you want to leave! This gives you complete freedom of choice to adjust your travel itinerary to your needs.

Our trip starts with the hotel check-in in Jakarta, and then it's time for food!

  • First taste of Indonesia: we'll be able to try out some specialties of the local cuisine.

  • Getting to know each other: the best way to get ready for an amazing adventure together.

A WeRoad group trip takes a wide-angle selfie in front of an ancient stone temple complex under a partly cloudy sky.

Discover Yogyakarta

This morning our first transfer awaits!

  • Flight to central Java: an internal flight takes us to the central part of the island of Java.

  • First stop, Yogyakarta: once at the accommodation, we're ready to kick off our adventure among the Indonesian islands.

Prambanan and Borobudur

Two temples, two faiths, one day: it takes a while to explore them, but it's worth it!

  • Among the temples of Prambanan: Prambanan is a Hindu temple complex that stretches for miles. We visit it up to the Shiva temple, the greatest Hindu monument in Indonesia, followed by the Brahma temple and Vishnu temple, a must too.

  • On to Borobudur: not far from Prambanan stands the magnificent Borobudur, the world's largest Buddhist temple. Built in the 9th century, it's one of the world's most valuable treasures.

In the 1970's Borobudur became a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Minivan ride to Mount Bromo

Rise and shine, WeRoaders: we have some traveling to do!

  • By minivan to Mount Bromo: we get in our minivan to reach Mount Bromo, where tomorrow we'll see one of the most wonderful sunrises ever.

  • Lunch on the road: a lunch break along the way to grab a quick bite and stretch our legs.

  • Dinner and early to bed: we continue to our accommodation near Mount Bromo for dinner, then early to bed: the alarm is set for 2 in the morning. Yes, you read that right, but it'll be worth it!

A series of volcanic craters and mountains illuminated by the warm light of sunrise, with one crater emitting a plume of smoke.

Sunrise on the volcano, then Banyuwangi

Get up, sleepyheads! The alarm goes off at 2am, so let's put on some warm clothes: it's quite cold. Here's how the morning goes:

  • By jeep almost to the top: a jeep takes us almost to the top of the mountain in less than 30 minutes.

  • Last stretch on foot: more or less half an hour of easy walking, and guess what? The sun is rising!

  • Sunrise over Mount Bromo: we watch Mount Bromo slowly light up, a magic moment in contact with nature.

  • Transfer to Banyuwangi: back to base camp, then on to our next stop, Banyuwangi. Plenty of time to rest during the transfer: another early alarm awaits!

A WeRoad group trip poses for a photo while wearing respirator masks in a smoky, volcanic environment.

Kawah Ijen: acid lake and blue flames

Another early wake-up call to climb the Ijen volcano, famous for two unique peculiarities: the largest acid lake in the world and the blue will-o'-the-wisps!

  • Up to the top: getting to the top of the volcano is not difficult, but the second part of the route is much more demanding.

  • Down into the crater? We can venture down into the crater to reach the acid lake and admire the surreal wisps of blue flame and the sulphurous fumes rising from the depths. If we're brave enough to go into the heart of the volcano, we'll be rewarded: the dawn here has a completely different colour!

Going down, the path is hard to see because of the lake gases, so we wear masks. If you think it's too difficult, the descent is optional.

Arriving in Bali

Back at the starting point, we can grab our backpacks and set off to Bali.

  • Minivan and ferry to Bali: first a minivan, then a ferry towards the most famous Indonesian island.

  • Temple or waterfalls? After regaining some strength, we can decide how to spend our morning: the famous Ulun Danu Beratan temple, or a swim in the Git Git waterfalls?

  • Evening in Ubud: in the evening we arrive in Ubud, where we can begin to relax, maybe with a nice massage!

A macaque monkey takes a selfie with a smiling WeRoad group trip posing behind it in a forest setting.

Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary

This morning we visit a rainforest oasis on the edge of Ubud.

  • At the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary: a wonderful and bizarre temple, full of statues of animals and mythological creatures.

Relaxing afternoon

We spend the rest of the day relaxing, our way. A few ideas:

  • Fancy some yoga? Ubud is one of the world capitals for yoga and spirituality: what better place to take a class?

  • Or a cooking class? Another way to spend the afternoon is a cooking class.

  • A walk among the rice fields? We can also take a walk among the rice fields: if we're not too tired, the surroundings of the city are full of forests, temples and waterfalls.

A woman takes a selfie with a WeRoad group trip, posing together on a hill overlooking lush green rice terraces and palm trees.

Bali Beach Club

Today's all about chilling and exploring, and we call the shots.

  • At our beach club: our own beach club perks include drinks, snacks and towels, no stress! Balinese beaches are famous for their nightlife.

  • Yoga, temples or photos? Fancy yoga, temple hopping, or finding that Insta-worthy spot? We've got time!

  • On to Seminyak: later, we roll into Seminyak by private van, ready for a night out.

A WeRoad group trip of four people holding surfboards and standing in the ocean at sunset.

Surf and sunset

Welcome to Kuta, a little surfer's paradise! There's more than one way to spend the day:

  • Ready to surf? We can put our swimsuits on and surf the waves: it won't be too difficult, even if it's our very first try.

  • Not feeling like surfing? If we'd rather not, we can take it easy and spend the day relaxing on the beach until sunset.

  • Sunset cocktail: at sunset, a nice cocktail overlooking the sea on comfy beanbags.

  • Balinese cocktails and dancing: we get started with a few Balinese cocktails (we suggest the typical Arak) and then let's cut some shapes!

Paradise on earth

After three days in Bali, some transfers take us to the archipelago of the Gili Islands, with endless white beaches and bright blue waters. Once there, we can decide what to do:

  • Sun or sea? Enjoy the sun and relax on the beach all day, or go snorkeling or scuba diving.

  • Fancy the jungle? If we feel adventurous, there's also a trek in the jungle.

We stay at the beach till late to see a different side of the Gili Islands: the chiringuitos invite us to enjoy some cocktails and dance barefoot on the sand all night long. Cheers!

A boat is anchored in shallow, clear turquoise water off a white sand beach lined with lush green trees under a blue sky.

Relax and fun

Time to enjoy the beautiful Gilis: three small islands that attract travellers from all over the world.

  • Coral reefs of Gili Trawangan: let's explore the tropical coral reefs in Gili Trawangan.

  • Something more unique? If you're looking for something different, on Gili Meno we can swim among the underwater sculptures and take the most epic travel photos.

  • Beach time: then we spend the rest of the day on the beach, relaxing in this peaceful place.

A smiling woman in sunglasses takes a selfie on a sandy beach while her WeRoad group trip rides horses in the background.

Last day on the beach

That's the last day on the beach between Gili and Lombok, so let's make the best of it!

  • One last swim at the Gilis: in the morning there's still time to swim in the crystal clear waters of the Gilis.

  • Afternoon in Lombok: we move to Lombok and enjoy a beach just off the tourist trails, in silence and relaxation.

  • Sunset on Senggigi beach: we stay at the beach until late so we can enjoy our last sunset on Senggigi beach!

A high-angle view of a multi-lane highway with traffic flowing between towering modern skyscrapers and lush palm trees.

The capital

Today we fly back to Jakarta, trying not to think too much about the ocean we left behind.

  • Relax or explore? We can have a relaxing afternoon in the hotel, or we can spend some time visiting the city highlights and buying some souvenirs to take home.

  • Last evening together: here we are, at the end of our trip: tonight we share our favourite memories of the last 12 days!
