Indonesia 360°: Bali, Java & Lombok by Jeep, from Volcanoes to Rice Paddies

Itinerary
Twelve days across Indonesia, island-hopping between Java, Bali, and Lombok: wild nature, hidden temples, cheeky monkeys, and dream beaches. After landing in Bali, we head straight to Java, an island of charm and contrasts, for a highlight: sunrise on Mount Bromo, among lunar landscapes and smoking craters. The next day, 4x4 jeeps take us through plantations and rural villages to the most authentic side of Java.
Next up is Ubud, the spiritual heart of Bali: endless green rice paddies, the famous Monkey Forest, and temples tucked away in the jungle. Then Lombok, the wild, off-the-beaten-path island, with dream beaches in Senggigi, traditional Sasak villages, and inland trekking, plus a hop to the Gili Islands for snorkeling in turquoise waters and sunset drinks. We wrap up at a beach club in Seminyak, cocktails in hand, sand between our toes. Backpack on, let's go!

Welcome to Indonesia!
Check-in and first group dinner in Bali
Round-trip flights to and from the destination are not included in the package, so you can decide where to depart from, at what time, and with your preferred airline... This is to give you maximum freedom of choice!
Our adventure kicks off in Bali: check-in at the hotel, then dinner to start getting to know each other.
Time to get ready, as a group, for this magical adventure.
The first dish to try? Obviously nasi goreng, made with rice, vegetables, and meat!

Malang: history, color, and pure authenticity!
By becak through the streets of Malang
It's already time to say goodbye to Bali (but we'll be back soon!) and set off for Java: we land in Surabaya and head straight to Malang, a perfect mix of colonial charm and local culture.
Hopping on a becak, the local rickshaw, we explore the city: from Boulevard Ijen, with its elegant Dutch villas and flower-lined streets, to the vibrant Chinese temple, a symbol of the harmony between Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism.
A must-see stop is Kampung Jodipan, the rainbow village born from a student project: an explosion of color, perfect for photos!
Then the Tugu Monument and the flower market, before the authentic atmosphere of Kampung Kayoetangan, where life flows slowly among shops and traditions.
Last stop: Toko Oen, a historic cafe with a colonial vibe, then a quick shower at the hotel. It's only day two, and the evening continues!

East Java: sunrise on Mount Bromo
2 AM alarm and a jeep to the sunrise
A few hours of sleep, then the alarm goes off at 2 AM: today it's sunrise over Mount Bromo, the main reason we made the trip!
We bundle up (it's freezing!) and hop in a jeep that takes us almost to the top of the mountain in less than half an hour.
We arrive just before the sun peeks over the horizon: watching Bromo slowly light up leaves us speechless for a while.
Back to base camp, then off to Kalibaru: lush plantations, countryside, and fresh hill air, the quieter, more rural side of Java.
Bring warm layers: temperatures on Bromo can drop below 10°C (50°F).

Jeep tour through the plantations and transfer to Banyuwangi
Kalibaru countryside by jeep
We set off in the morning in a local jeep to explore the Kalibaru countryside: no staged performances for tourists, just the real daily life of this corner of Java.
Traditional villages, crops, and the Margo Utomo plantation, between dirt roads and lush green landscapes.
We discover local tropical crops and see how the land is worked here, chatting with the local farmers. The crops depend on the season: nature calls the shots!
Closed-toe shoes, a hat, sunscreen, and a water bottle are our best friends today.
After lunch we head to Banyuwangi, our final stop before returning to Bali.

From Ijen volcano to Ubud
Kawah Ijen: acid lake and blue fire
Early alarm again, but trust us, it's worth it: we're heading up the Ijen volcano, famous for two pretty unique features.
It's home to the world's largest acid lake and those famous blue flames, mesmerizing flickers caused by sulfur reacting with oxygen.
Getting to the top isn't too tough; the second part, descending into the crater to reach the lake, gets a bit more intense.
The descent is optional: the lake's gases call for focus, and we'll have masks. The reward? Sunrise here hits differently!
Back to Bali and evening in Ubud
Back at the starting point (the whole excursion takes about 6 hours), we grab our backpacks and hit the road to Bali, the most famous island in Indonesia, where our journey began and where it now continues.
First a minivan, then a ferry.
After recharging, we decide what's next: a swim at the Git Git waterfalls or the iconic Ulun Danu Bratan temple?
We arrive in Ubud by evening, where we can finally kick back... maybe with a nice massage!

Ubud: Monkey Forest and an afternoon of yoga
Sacred Monkey: getting up close with Indonesian mythology
This morning we can visit a true rainforest oasis right on the edge of the city.
The cute monkeys, the real hosts here, will try to make friends with us (aka steal our snacks)!
The Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary is a temple as wonderful as it is bizarre, with countless statues of animals and mythical creatures from Indonesian folklore.
Afternoon of pure relaxation!
We spend the rest of the day just the way we like.
Ubud is one of the world capitals for yoga and spirituality: what better place to take a class or cleanse your spirit at a temple like Tirta Empul?
Prefer the great outdoors? A walk through the rice paddies, and the area around the city is packed with forests, temples, and waterfalls!

Amidst rice paddies, adventure, and Balinese tradition
Time to get cooking!
We keep exploring Ubud, the beating heart of Bali, where nature and culture collide in the best way possible.
We get lost among the spectacular Tegalalang rice terraces, exploring postcard-perfect landscapes on a quad bike: mud, hidden trails, and rural villages along the way.
We can also check out the mystical Goa Gajah, a temple carved right into the rock, famously known as the Elephant Cave.
Then a cooking class: among fragrant spices and local recipes, we learn to make classics like nasi goreng and sate ayam. Who's tasting first?

Lombok: next stop, Senggigi!
Bye-bye, Bali!
After these incredible days, it's time to say goodbye to Bali... and set off for the next island!
Hotel pick-up and on to Sanur port, ready to set sail for Lombok.
In about 90 minutes we land in Bangsal, where the vibe changes instantly: fewer crowds, more authenticity.
The rest of the day? Plenty of free time to explore local warungs or chill on a postcard-perfect beach. Lombok is waiting for us!

Sea, beaches, and total relaxation in Lombok
Paradise on Earth
We wake up to the gentle sound of waves and a sea breeze rustling through the palms: no rigid schedule, just pure relaxation.
The sea is a perfect shade of turquoise: how could we resist a dip? Then sun on the loungers with an endless view, tropical cocktail in hand.
In the afternoon, mask and snorkel: we dive into a natural aquarium of colorful corals and tropical fish.
With a bit of luck, we spot a sea turtle watching us curiously before it disappears into the deep blue.

Yoga, surfing, and massages – how does that sound?
Today, we're not thinking about a thing!
Time slows down here: in Indonesia, we're the ones setting the pace of our holiday.
A morning yoga session on the soft sand, with the waves as a soundtrack: deep breath, stretch, and let go of all that tension.
Craving more adrenaline? Grab a surfboard and try to tame those waves.
Then a well-deserved Balinese massage: expert local therapists and coconut-scented oils melt away every trace of fatigue.
The sunset catches us off guard again with its breathtaking colors, and we're already dreaming of the next adventure.

Back in Bali: last night under the stars
Beach clubs and unforgettable memories
Leaving Lombok, its slow pace, and its fiery sunsets is never easy, but today we return to Bali for the final stop.
We set sail in the morning, wind in our hair, as Bali’s silhouette comes into view: nostalgia and excitement all at once.
Destination? Seminyak, to make our final night one for the books.
As the sun sets, we hit one of the island's most iconic beach clubs. Bali, this isn't goodbye, just a "see you later"!
Goodbye, Indonesia! It's been a blast.
Check-out and goodbyes
Check-out time: we head back home, and nobody comes back from a trip like this unchanged.
New places, incredible people, different cultures, and experiences that shift how we see the world.
Memories that stick with us forever and become the best stories to share once we're back!
