Istanbul Express: Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque & a City on Two Continents

Itinerary
Istanbul bridges two worlds: it connects West and East, uniting two continents not just symbolically but in the daily lives of its people. It's truly a "collection of many cities": architecture and social landscape shift within mere meters, from Taksim to Kasımpaşa or Sultanahmet to Kadırga.
Both the European and Asian sides mix conservative and modern neighbourhoods like Beyoğlu and Kadıköy, historic sites like Sultanahmet and Üsküdar, bustling shopping areas and religiously diverse quarters like Fener and Balat, while picturesque villages line the Bosphorus. In five days we explore its many faces, from the Blue Mosque to Hagia Sophia, through vibrant neighborhoods, lively markets, street food and sweet Turkish delights. We leave with a taste of Türkiye and a desire to return to this world among worlds!

Hello, Istanbul!
Check-in and first stroll
Round trip flights are not included in the package, so you can choose from where and when you want to fly. This is to give you maximum freedom of choice!
Check-in at the hotel in Istanbul, then a welcome meeting with the rest of your group. Time to kick off the adventure!
First stroll through the city: we walk through the vibrant streets, exploring local products from fish to books.
First sunset by the sea: then down to the seafront to relax in the sun and enjoy our first sunset on Turkish soil.

Istanbul: so much to explore!
Fener and Balat
We can't visit Turkey without the true soul of Istanbul: its lesser-known neighborhoods.
Guided tour of Fener and Balat: colorful wooden houses, narrow cobblestone streets and the aroma of freshly baked bread. Comfortable shoes on, and let's unleash our inner Indiana Jones!
Spice market and local lunch: then the local spice market and a delicious local lunch to refuel.
Suleymaniye Mosque and the Fatih Quarter
Turkish coffee break: after lunch, a nice cup of Turkish coffee. If we're lucky, we might even have our grounds read: who knows what they'll reveal?
Suleiman Mosque and Fatih: in the afternoon we explore the Suleiman Mosque and the charming Fatih neighborhood, home to some lesser-known yet beautiful mosques.
Aperitif on the Bosphorus: a well-deserved aperitif with a view of the Bosphorus, glowing with the colors of sunset.
Typical dinner and nightlife
Dinner at a traditional restaurant: in the evening, another memorable dinner together.
Nightlife on Istiklal Caddesi: then we dive into the heart of Istanbul's nightlife on lively Istiklal Caddesi.

Istanbul: Beyond the Bosphorus
The Asian side: Üsküdar, Kuzguncuk and Kadıköy
Today it's all about the Asian side: old neighborhoods, tolerance and plenty of life.
Üsküdar and its mosques: one of the oldest neighborhoods in Ottoman Istanbul, residential from the start and still keeping that charm, with over 180 mosques, some predating the Ottoman conquest.
Kuzguncuk, one of our favorites: home to the Jewish community since the 1500s and later to Greek and Armenian residents, it's where we can find a mosque next to an Armenian church and a synagogue beside an Orthodox church, a symbol of the tolerance and harmony that once thrived here.
Last stop, Kadıköy: our final stop is Kadıköy, now one of Istanbul's most modern and vibrant neighbourhoods.
A traditional Dervish Show
In the afternoon, the Sema: the whirling dervish ritual of the Mevlevi Order, UNESCO-listed.
Watching the dervishes: a spiritual journey of white robes, hypnotic music and spins that seem to go on forever.
Phone in your pocket, eyes wide open: this one will leave you speechless.

Final Day Discovering Istanbul
Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern and Hagia Sophia
Time to dive into the heart of Istanbul and its iconic landmarks.
The Blue Mosque: a photogenic masterpiece named after the over 20,000 turquoise tiles adorning its dome, a sight that leaves us gazing upwards. Outside: arches, curved lines and striking symmetry.
Down into the Basilica Cistern? Built by Emperor Justinian, it captivates with its architectural precision.
On to Hagia Sophia? The largest church in Christianity until the 15th century: majestic dome, golden decorations and a light play so mystical the dome seems to float above the nave.
Fish Bread and the Grand Bazaar
Lunch at the Galata Bridge: how about a Balik Ekmek, the famous fish sandwich? A local must-try!
Around the Grand Bazaar: an ancient market still bustling with stalls for every taste, with freshly squeezed pomegranate juice and Turkish sweets. Who could resist baklava?
Sunset from a rooftop: we catch the sunset from one of the city's many rooftops, then head back to the hotel to get ready for the evening.
Our last night together!
We gather once more for our last night together. We're in Istanbul, a city that never sleeps, so why not celebrate with a little fiesta?

The trip was 10/10, without a doubt. Istanbul is an incredible city that completely exceeded our expectations. The sights we saw were absolutely spectacular – from the stunning architecture of the Blue Mosque to the historic Hagia Sophia and the Basilica Cistern, every moment was brilliant. The tour itself was well organised, concise but not rushed, giving us plenty of time to appreciate each location. Our coordinator Isabella was exceptional from Day 1 – her knowledge, enthusiasm and organisation made all the difference. I also felt it was great value for money. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this trip to anyone.

This was my first WeRoad adventure, and I have to say, I really enjoyed it! The itinerary was great and packed a lot into the four days we were there, so we definitely made the most of our time. We also had a fantastic Travel Coordinator, and the group was made up of a really lovely bunch of people. Overall, it was a great experience, and I wouldn’t hesitate to book another trip with WeRoad in the future.

Had an absolutely fabulous time in Istanbul - it was nothing like I was expecting, and our coordinator was amazing! We were on the go from start to finish, got to see a huge chunk of the city (whilst still having time to enjoy the DELCIOUS food) and overall just had a blast. I highly recommend giving it a go, you won't be disappointed!
