Itinerary

Eight days, four cities: this Japan itinerary mixes modern chaos and timeless calm. We start with neon lights in Tokyo, where skyscrapers, ramen bars and karaoke nights test our energy levels (spoiler: we keep up). Then a bullet train, the real one, takes us to Kyoto: temples, shrines, geishas and quiet streets that feel like a different century.

A day trip to Nara brings deer with no boundaries and a talent for stealing snacks. We wrap up in Osaka, where food is basically a lifestyle and neon lights compete for attention. Countless memories, and finally we get why everyone keeps talking about Japan. Ready? Let’s go.

We made it

Jet lag? Probably. Excitement? Definitely.

  • We land in Tokyo, check in, and it hits: we’re actually in Japan.

  • First meetup with the group (the awkward smiles last about 7 minutes), then our welcome dinner (optional): sushi, ramen or something we’ll Google later.

  • Energy left? We test Tokyo nightlife. If not, no worries: we’ve got time.

Balance is overrated (and Tokyo proves it)

Tokyo lives on contrasts, and today we see both sides.

  • From Shibuya Crossing (yes, that one) to quieter temples where everything suddenly slows down.

  • Street food? Obviously. Random shopping nobody planned? Also yes.

  • Tonight: karaoke. Nobody here is a professional, and that’s kind of the point!

Getting lost is part of the plan

Today we lean into freedom and explore more of the city’s culture and history.

  • Ueno Park, one of the most popular parks in the city, home to many temples and shrines.

  • The most notable: the Gojo Tenjinsha Shinto shrine, reached along a pathway lined with traditional red torii gates.

  • Dinner in the vibrant streets of Ameyoko Market, near Ueno Park. Taste buds ready?

  • Museums, vintage shops, food hunts or wandering as if we lived here: Tokyo works best when we stop trying to control it.

A traditional Japanese pagoda with red accents stands on a hill surrounded by trees with autumn foliage, overlooking a city and distant mountains.

From skyscrapers to shrines in a blink

We jump on the Shinkansen, the famous bullet train: fast, smooth, slightly unreal.

  • A few hours later: Kyoto! Different pace, different vibe.

  • Wooden houses, quiet streets and a lot of “wait, this is beautiful”.

  • A first walk around the city to soak it all in.

Two women in traditional kimonos stand on a historic street facing a Japanese pagoda at sunset.

Temples & tea

Kyoto day. The real one!

  • Temples, shrines and neighbourhoods that feel frozen in time.

  • A traditional tea ceremony: the kind seen in movies, but better because we’re actually there.

  • We take our time. Kyoto deserves it.

Day trip to Nara

We head to Nara for the day and meet its most famous residents: deer.

  • Friendly? Yes. Respectful of personal space? Not really.

  • Temples, parks and snack-stealing moments: one of those days we won’t forget.

  • Back to Kyoto in the evening.

  • Our day trip from Kyoto takes us to Nara.

Eat, explore, repeat

We move to Osaka, where the vibe shifts again: louder, brighter, tastier.

  • This city doesn’t play around with food: street food, local specialties and random stops just because it smells amazing.

  • And at night? Neon lights and good vibes. Simple as that.

Goodbye Japan (the group chat will survive, don’t worry)

Last morning together: breakfast, check-out and the classic “how did this go by so fast?” moment.

  • We say goodbye, or better, see you soon somewhere else in the world.
