Itinerary

An Oslo weekend, three days in the Norwegian capital built around one day on the water. We land in the early afternoon and walk the centre, from Karl Johans gate to the Royal Palace and its park, with a Norwegian snack and a traditional dinner to close. The middle day is the water: the Oslo fjord aboard an authentic sailboat, through narrow inlets, bays and a labyrinth of islands, then a Norwegian sauna in the centre with the fjord on the horizon. The last morning is a final stroll to Aker Brygge and Akershus Fortress. Culture and city walking on either side, nature and downtime in the middle, and the season sets the mood: Christmas markets and mulled wine in winter, blooming parks in spring, long fjord-side evenings and festivals in summer.

Our adventure kicks off in Oslo!

N.B.: Round-trip flight to/from destination aren't included in the package, so you can decide where to fly from, at what time, and with the airline you prefer... This is to give you maximum freedom of choice. Heads up: you need to arrive at the hotel in Oslo by 3 PM.

We arrive in Oslo in the early afternoon, meet our travel buddies at the hotel, check in fast and head straight out.

The magic of Oslo: a royal stroll, a typical snack, and a Viking feast

  • We start on Karl Johans gate, the main street and the city's beating heart, where elegant buildings, shops and always bustling cafes keep modernity and history tangled together.

  • Then the Royal Palace and the large park around it, where the pace drops right down: tree-lined avenues, room to sit and relax, and Oslo seen from above.

  • A typical Norwegian snack of local pastries and hot coffee, the way locals do it, then a traditional Norwegian dinner, klippfisk or kjøttkaker with a sip of aquavit. Skål!

Two people bathing in cold water next to a floating wooden sauna, with a snow-covered city skyline in the background.

Oslo Fjords: an experience to live on a sailboat!

Today we swap the pavements for the water, and finish the day somewhere considerably warmer than the deck of a boat.

  • The Oslo fjord unfolds from the deck of an authentic sailboat, through narrow inlets, enchanting bays and a labyrinth of islands dotted with charming little houses.

  • It is the day for photos: sea breeze, wide views, the city from an angle you cannot get on land. Excitement and relaxation in the same afternoon, for anyone who likes nature or a camera.

Norwegian Sauna: relax in the heart of Oslo

  • Back on shore we sink into the warm embrace of a Norwegian sauna right in the city centre, steam rising and heat building after a full day outside.

  • Through the massive windows the city views open up, sometimes with the fjord stretching out on the horizon: sauna tradition meeting urban Oslo, and pure relaxation.

The bow of a large white tall ship with intricate rigging docked in a city harbor under a bright blue sky.

Last morning: one more breakfast together, and then a final stroll through the centre of Oslo before we all scatter.

  • We can stop again at the Royal Palace and the greenery of its park, then carry on down to Aker Brygge, the trendy waterfront district where the boats come and go.

  • The views there run out over the fjords. We finish at Akershus Fortress, which hands us a panorama of the whole city, a good last look.

  • Then each of us heads off to our own destination, home with memories of a unique place and, more to the point, new friends. See you soon, Oslo, and until the next WeRoad adventure.
