Itinerary
Patagonia is the dream destination for those who love adventure among unspoiled natural landscapes and soaring peaks. On this 13-day tour we travel from Argentina to Chile, crossing the Andes in their southernmost part. We will climb mountains, explore glaciers, walk among penguins and even reach the ends of the earth, lost in a bubble where time slows down and we can take a deep breath.
The tour begins in Buenos Aires before we fly south for some of the most iconic hikes in Argentina, near Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre, and on to the majestic Perito Moreno Glacier. Then we cross the Andes into Chile to trek in Torres del Paine National Park and travel on to Ushuaia, the southernmost city on the planet. We wrap up back in Buenos Aires, one of the great cities in the world.

Welcome to Argentina!
1 night: Buenos Aires
Check-in: our adventure starts in Buenos Aires
Roundtrip flights or transportation to reach the destination are not included in the package, so you can decide from where and when you want to leave! This gives you complete freedom of choice to adjust your travel itinerary to your needs.
Check-in to your hotel in Buenos Aires, then it's time for the welcome dinner: the perfect chance to get to know each other and taste some local delicacies.
Argentinian meat, put to the test: they say it's cooked to such perfection that you can cut it with a spoon.
Not feeling the jet lag? We can continue the night in one of the city's many buzzing bars… vamos a bailar!

El Chalten: between Mount Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre
2 nights: El Chalten
Flying south to El Chalten
Rise and shine: today our adventure in Patagonia begins!
Flight to Calafate: we catch a domestic flight to Calafate, then drive three hours to a small village at the north end of the Los Glaciares National Park, our home for the next two days.
Into El Chalten: El Chalten is the national capital of trekking in Argentina, so get ready for stunning hikes in the most amazing landscapes.
Trekking paradise
This area has the tallest peaks in the region, plus lakes, glaciers and forests, and some of the best treks are on Mount Fitz Roy (11171 ft) and Cerro Torre (10262 ft). It really doesn't get better than this!
Hike to Laguna de los Tres: our choice is a full day hike up to Laguna de los Tres, at the foot of the Mount Fitz Roy massif. Cameras ready: friends and family will want to see this!

On the road to meet the glaciers
1 night: El Chalten
Icy rivers and petrified forests
Before saying goodbye to El Chaltén after lunch, the morning is packed with options:
Rafting, hiking or fossils? The southernmost white water rafting in the world, an extra hike if yesterday's steps weren't enough, or a petrified forest full of million-year-old dinosaur fossils.
Settling into Calafate: arriving in Calafate, we check in to our hotel and explore this town on the shore of the largest lake in Patagonia.
Birds or beer? Maybe we can explore the varied birdlife at Laguna Nímez, but a stop at one of the many local craft breweries is a given. Cheers!

El Calafate: the majestic glacier of Perito Moreno
1 night: El Calafate
The national capital of glaciers
El Calafate is widely known as the national capital of glaciers. The most famous? Perito Moreno, and we have a full day to explore it!
The land of glaciers
While most glaciers worldwide are retreating, this is one of the few that stays in equilibrium through cycles of accumulation and ablation.
At the viewpoint: our first stop is one of the viewpoints above the glacier, where we wait for a large block of blue and white ice to collapse into the glacial lake below. Ice creaking, a roar and a thunderous splash: one of the most amazing natural phenomena you can witness.
Boat, kayak or ice trek
Afterwards we can choose from a number of on site excursions:
By boat or by kayak? A boat trip takes you even closer to the glacier, while a kayak tour is for the more adventurous among us.
Feeling up to an ice trek? Those who feel up to it can don crampons and follow an expert adventure guide into the glacier, exploring deep crevasses, caves and underground lagoons (This activity is subject to availability and as such is not included in the trip fee or the Money Pot).

Chile, here we come
1 night: El Calafate
Into the Magallanes region
Today we say bye for now to Argentina as we cross the border to Chile to explore the mighty Magallanes region.
Into Magallanes by road: the isolation is real here. From Santiago (apart from flying) you only get here by ferry through the impressive Chilean fjords or, like us, by road from Argentina.
Crossing the border to Puerto Natales
It takes some time to reach Puerto Natales, so sit back and enjoy the incredible scenery.
Wildlife from the window: keep an eye out for guanacos, Patagonian ostriches and, if we're super lucky, pumas!
Gateway to Torres del Paine: on the shores of the Last Hope Fjord, Puerto Natales is the gateway to Torres del Paine National Park.
Village walk and Milodon Cave: upon arrival we walk around the small village and maybe explore the famous Milodon Cave, where the skeleton of this prehistoric animal was found.

Torres del Paine National Park
1 night: Puerto Natales
Up to the Base of the Towers
Torres del Paine National Park is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and worth the flight across the Atlantic on its own.
Up to the base of the towers: the view from the base of the towers lookout, with three granite peaks rising behind the crystal clear waters of the lake, is one of the most iconic images of Patagonia. That's where we're headed today: lace up your hiking shoes and get ready for quite a trek!
Up there, fight the urge to take pictures and just enjoy the moment.
Celebrating in Puerto Natales
After an amazing day deep in nature we head back to Puerto Natales, where we can relax for a while.
Celebrating in town: a hearty dinner and a visit to the southernmost gin distillery in the world. Salud!

Journey to the end of the Earth
1 night: Natales
The southernmost city in the world
Today a long journey takes us to Ushuaia, the end of the earth.
Across the steppe: we head south across the Patagonian steppe towards the historical oceanic passage of the Strait of Magallanes.
Ferry over the strait: on board, picture the scene more than 100 years ago: until 1914, when the Panama Canal opened, this was the only way between the Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans across the Americas.
Into Tierra del Fuego: on the other shore we reach the legendary island of Tierra del Fuego (the land of fire), jump to the Argentinian side and cross the last ridges of the Andean mountain range.
To the Beagle Channel: then another body of water appears, the Beagle Channel, and just like that we've reached our home for the next 3 days.
After a day like this, we can call ourselves real adventurers!

Ushuaia: the world's southernmost city
2 nights: Ushuaia
Exploring the end of the world
The next two days are all about Ushuaia and the nature surrounding the city. Plenty to choose from:
Fancy a boat trip? For those who do, we sail down the Beagle Channel, between the snowy peaks of Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego and the coast of Chilean Navarino Island. The channel is named after the ship that sailed it for the first time and that, on its second expedition, took Charles Darwin around the world.
Walking with penguins: sea lions, cormorants and otters play by our boat, and on Martillo Island we get off and walk among up to three different species of penguins that nest here every year. On the way back, if we are particularly lucky, we might even spot whales!
Up Cerro Guanaco: this is a trekking tour, after all, so we explore Tierra del Fuego National Park and climb Cerro Guanaco for a 360° view of the mountains around us.
Postcards and king crab: grab postcards in town first, as by the national park's gate we send them home from the southernmost post office in the world. Before leaving, we try the local delicacy, king crab, in all its variations.

Back to civilization: in Buenos Aires again
1 night: Buenos Aires
Bye Patagonia
Time to leave the unspoiled nature at the end of the world and catch a domestic flight back to Buenos Aires.
A stroll around Palermo: we relax among cute little vintage shops, hunt for the best empanada in the city or have a coffee while the world goes by.
Need a culture fix? World famous Recoleta Cemetery is the resting place of former Argentine first lady Evita Peron.

Final day in Buenos Aires
1 night: Buenos Aires
From Plaza de Mayo to La Boca
Today is all about exploring wonderful Buenos Aires and tasting delicious local food!
From Plaza de Mayo: we start from Plaza de Mayo, right in the heart of the city, and walk along Avenida 9 de Julio, the widest avenue in the world.
Coffee and books: we simply must stop at Cafe Tortoni, the oldest coffee shop in the country, and El Ateneo, a former theatre now considered one of the most beautiful bookshops on the planet.
On to La Boca: we walk past La Bombonera, a football stadium named after a chocolate box, and the colourful houses of Caminito, the neighbourhood's most famous alley, where tango dancers often show off their talent.
Farewell dinner: we celebrate the end of a wonderful adventure with a few glasses of Argentinian Malbec.

Goodbye Patagonia!
