Rome Weekend: the Best of The Eternal City in 48h

Itinerary
Rome in a weekend: two nights, a Trastevere trattoria dinner, a guided Saturday through the Colosseum, Roman and Imperial Forums, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps, then a free last morning.

Arrival and dinner in Trastevere
1 night: Roma
Arrival and first taste of Rome
We reach Rome in the late afternoon, check in, and start the weekend the way a Roman would: on foot.
From there we walk to Trastevere, one of the capital's best-loved neighbourhoods, all cobblestones, narrow streets under soft lights and the sound of Roman folk songs.
Dinner is in a trattoria, working through the typical Roman plates we came for: carbonara, amatriciana or cacio e pepe, whichever the table votes for.

Pantheon, Colosseum and Trevi Fountain
1 night: Roma
Classic Rome, a stroll through history
Saturday belongs to the city: breakfast at a local cafe, then a walking tour that is nothing like a history lesson.
We start in the quieter streets of Trastevere, cross Tiber Island and the Jewish Ghetto on our guide's stories and fun facts, and reach the Pantheon.
Fountains, squares, and a touch of magic
The afternoon crosses the historic centre: Piazza Navona, the Colosseum for a selfie with one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World, the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps.
Saturday night, our way
After all those kilometres, dinner is round two of Roman cooking: carbonara again, a gricia, or a carciofo alla giudia if artichokes are in season.

Last morning in Rome
Morning spent exploring markets, soaking in views, and capturing postcard-perfect moments
The last morning in Rome offers a choice between street level and rooftop, and both are local in their own way.
Option A is the Porta Portese market, where we dig through vinyl, books and vintage treasures in that unmistakable buzz of lively chaos and unique finds.
Option B is 551 steps up the Dome of St. Peter's, where all of Rome opens out below and we salute the Eternal City from above.

Rome was stunning and the group of people on the trip were great. However the itinerary was far from followed and the group leader was unhelpful, almost obstructive. There was no welcome meeting, no introductions. I was even called the wrong name by them on departure. Everyone wanted to see the main sights of Rome during our visit but no effort was made to do this. We spent 3 hours on a walking tour which included zero major sights and felt a waste of time. Also this trip was listed as relaxed pace. I walked 80,000 steps in 3 days and needed 2 days off after returning to reduce the swelling and leg fatigue! Rome amazing, Weroad disappointing.

I had an amazing time on this trip! Abby really went above and beyond for us, organising colosseum tickets and St Peter’s basilica tickets. The trip was really fun, we had lots of incredible food and saw so many beautiful places. We were a big group so it was difficult to get to know everyone, but Abby made me feel so welcome and comfortable, she would even share her food with us to let people try it. I really felt that Abby knew exactly what she was doing, despite this being her first time in Rome she came across as an expert. I can’t thank Abby enough for making my first WeRoad so special, I’ll definitely be joining her trips in the future!

Hotel and location was spot on, however can i add the walking tour orgnaised was a complete waste of time. Didnt cover any landmarks and lost us value hours in Rome. In the end the group pulled together to organise the landmarks ourselves, but would of been helpful to know beforehand what would of been covered.

It was my first trip with WeRoad and I must say that, initially, I expected something more similar to a structured travel organization, rather than a simple coordination between participants. That said, the experience overall was very positive. We were lucky to have a Travel Coordinator who had lived in Rome, so he knew the city well and was always available and flexible, even taking us to places we requested. This made the trip more authentic and less “standard”. The only negative note concerns the guide chosen for the tour: he was very focused on ancient Rome and less on the more “touristy” Rome. For those who, like many of us, were visiting the city for the first time, this made the experience a bit less engaging and at times even not very useful compared to expectations. In general, however, it was a pleasant experience, especially thanks to the group and the quality of the Travel Coordinator.
