Itinerary

A ten-day road trip around Sicily, out from Palermo and back: Erice, Trapani, the Valley of the Temples, Modica, Noto, Syracuse, Taormina or Mount Etna, Catania, plus free beach days. Sea and ancient history lead.

A map of Sicily showing a travel itinerary that starts and ends in Palermo.

Welcome to Sicily

Flights aren't included in the package, so you can decide which airport to fly from, what time, and with the airline you prefer. This gives you maximum freedom of choice.

Check-in at the hotel, here's how the meet-up works!

  • Check-in at 18:00, then Palermo's street food.

Let's get to know each other!

  • Cannoli and arancine, and a first evening together.

A stone castle sits atop a lush, green cliffside overlooking the ocean on a sunny day.

...via Erice

We pick up the car and head west.

  • Erice is medieval and mountain-perched, walked with a guide: stone alleys, coastal views, sweets.

We're arriving in Trapani

  • Then Trapani's historic centre, seafront and sunset aperitivo.

Small boats anchored in a turquoise bay in front of a coastal village with white houses built into the side of a rocky mountain.

Sea, sea... or still more sea?

Nothing is scheduled; the group sets the rhythm.

  • A boat to Favignana, or San Vito Lo Capo's crystal waters.

  • Or the beach, doing nothing.

A bronze statue of a fallen winged figure lies on a dusty hill with an ancient Greek temple in the background at sunset.

Morning on the road

A long drive east, ending in the iconic sunset.

  • Morning stops might be Mazara del Vallo, Arabic-influenced, or Salemi and Gibellina for contemporary art.

Sunsets and ancient culture

  • Then Agrigento and a sunset guided tour of the Valley of the Temples.

An illuminated baroque church with a grand staircase sits in the middle of a dense hillside city at dusk.

Beach mode: ON

Beach in the morning, baroque by evening.

  • A relaxed seaside morning, local beaches, golden sand, crystal-clear water.

On the road to Modica

  • Then Modica: baroque centre, scenic staircases, lit alleys, honey-coloured buildings, chocolate.

An elevated view of a historic city with a baroque cathedral and a grand staircase leading to a square with people walking.

Chocolate Vibes

A slow start in Modica, cocoa in the air.

Nature or Baroque?

  • En route to Syracuse: Vendicari Reserve's pristine beaches or Noto's golden baroque palaces.

  • We reach Syracuse in the evening.

An aerial view of a historic coastal city and a stone fortress on a peninsula under a dramatic sunset sky.

The story

History first, then a free afternoon.

  • A walking tour, then the Neapolis Archaeological Park guided: ancient theatres and quarries.

Ortigia Vibes

  • Afternoon free in Ortigia: alleyways, piazzas, aperitivo.

Ancient brick theater ruins frame a distant, snow-capped volcano under a clear blue sky with a single cloud.

Towards Catania: sea or volcano?

We leave Syracuse for Catania: sea or volcano.

  • Taormina for elegance and lively streets; Mount Etna, Europe's highest active volcano, for lunar landscapes.

  • We arrive in Catania in the evening.

A green-tiled church dome is framed by tall buildings on a narrow street with laundry hanging from balconies.

Last moments: choose your ending

The last full day, shaped as we like.

  • More Catania, back to Taormina or Etna, or straight to Palermo.

Farewell dinner

  • The farewell dinner is in Palermo, with toasts and memories.

It's time for goodbyes

Time for goodbyes and for home.

  • The trip ends in Palermo, where it began.

  • Freud called Sicily Italy's most beautiful region.
