Itinerary

Ready for a road trip like never before? This tour of South Africa is exactly that! In 13 days we explore the southernmost region of the African continent, from its complex history to the breathtaking natural beauty of these lands. Get ready for fun and, most of all, adventure!

We start from Cape Town, one of the three (yup, three!) capital cities, and head to Johannesburg along the coast, from Cape of Good Hope to Plettenberg Bay and Port Elizabeth. We dive into the cultures and traditions of the big cities, then into the wild nature of the African bush. To top it all off, a game drive in Kruger National Park to spot the Big Five: leopards, lions, buffalos, rhinos and elephants!

Check-in: the adventure begins in Cape Town

Roundtrip flights or transportation to reach the destination are not included in the package, so you can decide from where and when you want to leave! This gives you complete freedom of choice to adjust your travel itinerary to your needs.

Cape Town boasts a mix of cultures thanks to its colonial past.

  • The strongest influences come from the Dutch and the Brits, plus many others that shape the city’s eclectic tradition and heritage.

  • Check-in at the hotel, then a lovely dinner to get to know each other!

A person stands on a rocky mountain summit with arms outstretched, overlooking a coastal city and the ocean.

Robben Island

Discovering the history of South Africa means coming face to face with Apartheid and the many ways it affected this country.

  • Our day starts with a visit to Robben Island, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years.

  • This tiny island lies just over 4 miles off Cape Town’s waterfront.

  • It’s the symbol of South Africa's fight for freedom and the triumph of human spirit over adversity. Powerful, right?

Cape Town’s neighbourhoods and Table Mountain

Cape Town is renowned for its vibrant and diverse neighbourhoods. Where do we start?

  • The Bo-Kaap, one of the oldest neighbourhoods and probably the most famous, recognisable by its rows of colourful houses.

  • Woodstock, a designer district with galleries and vivid murals, then the wealthy area of Gardens and the historic town port, the V&A Waterfront.

  • Sunset on top of Table Mountain, the flat-topped landmark overlooking the city.

  • Often the mountain is covered by the so-called “Table Cloth”, thin clouds that seem to pour over it while the rest of the sky is clear. Get your cameras ready!

A group of penguins stands on a sandy path next to the ocean, with green bushes and mountains in the background under a clear blue sky.

On the road along the peninsula

It’s the dawn of a new day and the Cape Peninsula awaits, known for its green landscapes and hikes overlooking the coastline.

  • We drive through Camps Bay and head to the small village of Hout Bay.

  • With a bit of luck, we’ll meet a group of sea lions living on the nearby Duiker Island.

  • Then Chapman's Peak Road, one of the most beautiful scenic routes you could ever travel: time for views, pictures and fresh air before the Cape of Good Hope.

Cape of Good Hope, Cape Point and penguins

We’ve reached one of the great capes of the South Atlantic Ocean! Many sailors simply call it “the Cape”.

  • Snaps next to the iconic sign, then a hike to Cape Point: this is where the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean meet, depending on the currents.

  • Boulders Beach, the only place in the world where you can get really close to a colony of African penguins: we can stroll on the walkways along the beach and watch these funny birds go about their daily life. Selfie, anyone?

  • In the evening we head towards Stellenbosch, where we’ll spend the night.

An aerial view of a sprawling vineyard with neat rows of grapevines on green hills below a large mountain.

Stellenbosch: South Africa’s wine region

South African wine is celebrated around the world, with a rich history dating back almost three centuries.

  • Stellenbosch is the perfect place to sample the region’s delicious wines among dreamy landscapes.

  • Vineyards along the hills and traditional Cape Dutch style white houses are the backdrop to our wine tastings.

  • Local produce at one of the many wineries and, why not, a countryside picnic under the South African sun!

A humpback whale leaps from the ocean, its dark body and white fins creating a large splash in the blue water.

Zip-lining over the Elgin Valley

Rise and shine WeRoaders! It’s our fifth day, so why not try something new and exciting?

  • After breakfast we explore the Elgin Valley from a different angle: we zipline from tree to tree!

  • Then off to Hermanus, a vibrant seaside town famous for land and boat-based whale watching at the right time of the year.

  • If the sea conditions allow it, we can hire a kayak and paddle out to get even closer to these spectacular creatures.

A relaxing morning in Hermanus

Hermanus is the perfect place for a half day of well-deserved relaxation.

  • Hikes, excursions and activities: the town has plenty to choose from.

  • After lunch we set off for the Garden Route National Park. Tonight we sleep in a cute little spot, right inside the National Park!

Elephants stand at a watering hole in a hilly savanna landscape with sunbeams breaking through the clouds.

Nature and green landscapes

The name Garden Route says it all: stunning green cliffs and coastline!

  • This vast National Park is vital for the local ecosystem and a precious water resource for the many species living here.

  • So, what’s it gonna be today? Does kayaking sound like fun?

  • Later on we drive to Plettenberg Bay for a stroll along the beach. We are halfway through the tour, with still so much to see!

A large waterfall cascades over a rocky cliff into a pool of water, surrounded by dense green trees and rolling hills.

Beautiful Plett

The whole day is dedicated to exploring the bay and its surroundings. Plett, as the locals call it, is all about the white beach-blue water combo!

  • Mild temperatures all year round and safe waters: the perfect place to chill and unwind.

  • Spoilt for choice? Kayaking, canyoning, surfing and diving are only a few of the options!

Exploring our surroundings

After lunch, two ways to explore the area.

  • A tour of Robberg Nature Reserve, or a visit to Monkeyland and Birds of Eden, two animal sanctuaries dedicated to the conservation and rehabilitation of certain species.

  • After sunset we head back to the bay, hoping to spot bioluminescent algae tinging the water an electric blue.

  • It happens when the water is moving, so let’s jump in the waves and experience the magic!

Bright blue bioluminescent plankton glows along the shoreline of a sandy beach at night, with dark mountains under a starry sky.

Bungee-jumping, anyone?

Today we head to Port Elizabeth, with a stop on the way at the iconic Bloukrans Bridge.

  • It’s the tallest bungee jumping bridge in the world, at over 700 feet… anyone dare to try?

  • If not, the view from the bridge is impressive enough!

  • In the afternoon, a short flight from Port Elizabeth to Johannesburg, then on to Graskop for the night.

A giraffe's head and neck emerge from behind the dense green leaves of a tall tree during the day.

Waking up to mountains

Good morning world, and good morning South Africa! Today we explore Graskop, a little mountain village a stone’s throw from scenic viewpoints and natural landmarks.

  • God’s Window, one of the most famous: a lookout point above lush green forests and the vast African bush.

  • In the afternoon we head to Kruger National Park and spend the night in a typical lodge.

  • Grab a shower and enjoy the evening: tomorrow is going to be a big day!

Deep in the African bush

The next two days are all about Kruger National Park and the Big Five: leopards, lions, buffalos, rhinos and elephants!

  • Game drives around the park in a 4x4.

  • The local guide teaches us all about tracking animals. A truly unique experience!

Free day and farewell dinner

On our last day in the park you have complete freedom of choice among the many activities on offer.

  • In the evening we meet up for our final dinner: one more memory together before saying goodbye to this wonderful continent!
