Itinerary

From the Savannah to Zanzibar: a journey through the vast wild areas of East Africa, home to the so-called Big Five (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo and rhinoceros) and many other wild animals. We start in Arusha with a walking safari in Arusha National Park, hoping to spot its cute monkeys. Then the real safari begins: Tarangire National Park, home to more than 500 species of birds, and Lake Manyara, where lions like to climb trees.

In Ngorongoro we look for black rhinos, wildebeests and zebras, then get lost in the plains of the Serengeti National Park, with pink flamingos and more. A quick stop in Karatu to meet the native Bushmen, then we fly to Zanzibar: Kendwa beach, the Indian Ocean, snorkelling, relaxation and postcard sunsets. A complete tour of the peoples, habits and customs of this land!

Check in: our journey starts in Arusha

Round trip flights are not included in the package, so you can choose from where and when you want to fly. This is to give you maximum freedom of choice!

Check-in at the hotel in Arusha and time to meet the rest of the group!

  • Drinks by the pool: an evening to recover from the long flight, with a drink by the pool and some food together.

Let's toast to the beginning of our safari adventure!

A blue monkey stands on a thin tree branch covered in moss, surrounded by out-of-focus green leaves.

Monkey paradise

Let the adventure begin! We meet our guide and head to our first day of safari in Arusha National Park.

  • Blue and Colobus monkeys: the park is famous for its blue monkeys and is the only park in the area where we can see the beautiful Colobus monkeys.

  • Walking safari: it's also possible to do a Walking Safari, a walk through the park in close contact with the animals, escorted by the park rangers. What better way to start our adventure than by walking in nature?

A WeRoad group trip of three people riding in the back of an open-top safari vehicle on a dirt road through a dense forest.

Heading north to Tarangire

We set off north to Tarangire National Park, famous for its wildlife. Will we already be able to see the famous lions?

  • Following the herds: wildlife is at its most spectacular between June and September, in the dry period, when thousands of wildebeests, buffaloes and antelopes migrate to the river in search of water, with lions, leopards and other predators following the herds.

  • Binoculars at the ready: the park is home to over 500 varieties of birds, so binoculars and spotting scopes at the ready!

  • Night in Karatu: in the evening we move to Karatu, where we spend the night.

Two lionesses rest on the thick, gnarled branches of a tree against a blue sky with white clouds.

Safari day and a bike ride

After breakfast we head to Lake Manyara National Park for a day of safari, spotting as many wild animals as we can!

  • Tree-climbing lions: the park is known for its tree-climbing lions, covers 390sqkm and is a sanctuary for over 400 species of birds: pink flamingos, pelicans, storks, Ibis and Egyptian geese.

  • Buffalo and elephants: there is also a huge herd of buffalo and elephant. Will we be lucky enough to see it? Fingers crossed!

  • By bike to Mto wa Mbu: we visit Mto wa Mbu, a local village where representatives of more than 120 different tribes live together in peace, cycling through streets full of the scents and colours of local craftsmanship, from paintings to wooden objects, with a stop at the local market.

Two safari jeeps drive down a winding dirt road on a grassy hillside, overlooking a vast green valley with a lake and distant mountains.

Safari to the Ngorongoro Crater

New day, new safari! We descend by jeep into the crater and spend the whole day on safari. Ngorongoro is one of the largest craters in the world: 20 km wide, 2,286 m above sea level, surrounded by very steep walls and covering 260 square km.

  • Looking for black rhinos: this is one of the best wildlife viewing areas, where we can even see black rhinos, if we're lucky!

  • Zebras and wildebeests: over 30,000 animals live here, almost half of them zebras and wildebeests: no coincidence it's listed as a world heritage site!

A safari lodge with large tented rooms on a wooden deck, set in a grassy field against a vibrant sunset.

The endless plains

We wake up early and set off in our jeeps: in a couple of hours we reach the Serengeti National Park, undoubtedly the most famous wildlife sanctuary in the world.

  • Safari on the plains: wildebeests, antelopes and gazelles pass through here during migration, and hopefully we'll see some incredible animals up close!

Two lionesses walk on a dirt road between two safari jeeps during a WeRoad group trip in the savanna.

Lobo Valley

At dawn we set off again for Lobo, in the remote northern Serengeti. The Lobo Valley is one of the natural routes of the annual wildebeest migration.

  • Land of lions: this area has one of the highest concentrations of lions in Africa, which we admire from the safety of our jeep. Don't forget your camera!

  • North to south: on our last day in this spectacular park, we cross it from north to south looking for the animals we missed. We have to see them all!

  • Back to Karatu: in the evening we return to our accommodation in Karatu.

An elderly woman in profile, wearing a traditional beaded headband and cloth, sitting with her arms crossed outdoors.

Immersion in local culture

Today we visit the natives who live on Lake Eyasi.

  • Meeting the Hadzabe: the Bushmen, locally known as Hadzabe or Tindiga: the Hadzapi people are an original hunter-gatherer population of East Africa.

  • Meeting the Taturu: then the Taturu, sometimes known as Mang'ati, who still live according to their traditional customs.

  • Flight to Zanzibar: in the afternoon we move to Arusha to catch our flight to the beaches of Zanzibar. Time to relax!

Tall palm trees cast shadows over thatched umbrellas and lounge chairs on a white sand beach by the ocean.

Markets and the first ocean sunset

Today we're armed only with flip flops and swimsuits!

  • Markets and the area: during the day we can visit local markets and explore the area.

  • Beach time: in the afternoon we can head to the beach, with the Indian Ocean in front of us.

  • First ocean sunset: let's put our feet up and enjoy the first ocean view sunset of our trip!

A sailboat with a white sail on a turquoise ocean, seen from a tropical beach with white sand and palm trees.

Into the sea!

A free day: let's decide together how best to use our time here in Zanzibar.

  • Just relax? We can simply stretch out on Kendwa beach.

  • Up for a boat tour? Maybe then an exciting boat tour among crystal clear waters and white beaches.

  • Fancy some snorkelling? There's plenty of opportunity for snorkelling enthusiasts!

A sailboat with people on board glides across calm water at sunset, with the sun low on the horizon under a pink and cloudy sky.

Relax and crystal clear water!

It's our last full day together in Tanzania, and it's up to us how to spend it.

  • Bays and islands, or the beach? We can venture into one of the many bays and islands of this African island, or stay and relax on the beach.

  • Sunset cocktails: before we say goodbye to Tanzania, we toast this adventure together with cocktails at sunset!

After the endless African savannah, the immense herds, the dawn among the acacias, the local tribes, the beaches and the crystal clear water, it's time to head home.

Check-out and goodbye

See you on the next adventure with WeRoad!

The Tansania Collection trip was a dream. My partner and I were initially skeptical about whether the trip justified the very high price. But yes, the trip was worth every cent and it was not overpromised. We were actually accommodated in some of the best Accommodation with a WOW effect. The lodge in the middle of the Serengeti was a dream. Very modern and spacious with a view over the Serengeti. The fact that we were surrounded by lions at night was the absolute highlight. Our Accommodation in Zanzibar also left nothing to be desired. We even got to enjoy all-inclusive for the last 4 days. Here we were able to relax well. Our Travel Coordinator Sandra also did an excellent job, managed the Money Pot transparently and checked one or two optional excursion possibilities before the trip to determine whether the excursion was worth it or not. So we gave up the excursion to Stone Town with a clear conscience. The main part of the trip consisted of the 7-day safari. The trip included Arusha Nationalpark, Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongo Crater and the Serengeti. All the experiences we were able to have here are hard to put into words. For the safari days we had 2 experienced and very friendly guides who knew the parks like the back of their hand and went on the search for the Big 5 with us. They knew where to find which animals. Benefiting from their wealth of experience was super rewarding. It is also worth mentioning that we had hardly any additional expenses during the trip, as we had full board on 9 out of 11 days. On the safari we had to pay for table drinks in the evening, but that was it. We also got a large part of the money back from the Money Pot. All in all, this holiday is one of the best holiday experiences I have had so far. My points of criticism of the last WeRoad trips mostly related to the choice of Accommodation. The request was always to offer a trip that was more expensive, but to place more value on the Accommodation. And that worked excellently with the Collection trip. It is all the more a pity that the Collection trip from WeRoad was abolished due to lack of interest. It would be great if you would reconsider this and include higher-quality trips in the program again.

This trip was simply indescribable. The group was great and Sandra as Travel Coordinator was just amazing. I will certainly never forget the impressions I gathered on the safari.

Ideal trip for those who want to experience strong emotions and enjoy the beauty of the flora and the majesty of African animals ("big five" and more). The itinerary was well organised and ensured a gradual and complete discovery of Tanzania; from the parks to the beaches, from the walking safari to swimming off the island that doesn't exist, from lunches with lake views to aperitifs by the sea, from the sunrises of the Serengeti to the sunsets of Zanzibar. TOP trip!!! Compliments again.

A magnificent trip, but certainly not a “Collection”. The trip was magnificent due to the beauty of the places, the people I met, and our Travel Coordinator, who knew how to manage the group with great availability, energy, and attention. Tanzania is an extraordinary destination and the experiences lived will remain unforgettable. Unfortunately, however, from the point of view of the service purchased and the relationship with the customer, the experience was deeply disappointing. I chose and paid for a WeRoad Collection trip based on a very precise commercial promise: higher-level accommodation, comfort, exclusivity, and an experience characterized by particular attention to detail. The reality was very far from what was presented. Several accommodations were objectively incompatible with the “Collection” positioning: modest structures, rooms lacking even essential amenities and comfort, absence of air conditioning, extremely spartan furnishings, neglected environments, and accommodations that were anything but exclusive. Even the means of transport and the jeep were far from the idea of comfort and premium service promised at the time of purchase. Those who choose a trip of this type know the destination perfectly and happily accept authenticity, nature, and inevitable local differences. The problem arises when a product is sold and paid for as exclusive and luxurious, but is then delivered with features that do not justify either the category or the price. The “Collection” label cannot be limited to being a commercial tag or a surcharge. It must correspond to a truly superior selection of accommodation, consistent services, greater attention, and verifiable standards. On this trip, too often, all this was missing. Even more disappointing was the customer-side management: faced with the critical issues reported, I would have expected listening, timeliness, and a real willingness to understand the distance between what was sold and what was actually received. Instead, the feeling was that of insufficient assistance and little attention to the legitimate expectations of those who had consciously chosen the highest tier of the WeRoad offer. I return from this trip happy about Tanzania, the group, and the Travel Coordinator, but strongly dissatisfied with the WeRoad Collection product. The extraordinary places and the human qualities of the participants made the experience beautiful despite the organization, not thanks to the promised level of service. When you sell luxury, exclusivity, and attention to detail, you must then be able to guarantee them. In this case, the distance between the commercial communication, the price paid, and the service actually received was too wide to be considered acceptable.

The trip is very beautiful and allows you to visit contexts that would not be easy to organize independently. My travel companions were spectacular. Great feeling from the first moment. However, there are critical elements. For a collections trip and considering the relative cost, the Accommodation and dinners are absolutely not up to standard. The sales page of the site spoke of selected Accommodation, luxury, 4/5 stars. In reality, we stayed in 3-star solutions in some cases even having much more adequate solutions nearby. WeRoad did not give answers to our requests, sent practically by the entire group. On a WeRoad trip, you know that rooms are shared. But in this case, we stayed in solutions where the bathrooms had no doors or curtains, with the toilets positioned in view of the bed. In short, I think these are very undignified solutions for a collection where you imagine having a higher level of comfort. But that was not the case in almost all the solutions offered. Many hotels were dirty and had rotten walls. The transfers were very long, rightly so, but on dirt roads and with dated jeeps lacking air conditioning. I am talking about transfers of even 4/5 hours in contexts where you would get off the jeep totally dusty. This is also normal, but I would have imagined a climate-controlled vehicle. We visited 4 reserves. Lake Manyara is useless. We didn't see any animals. One day is dedicated to local populations. In reality, in both visits made, it was evident that they were staged for tourists. They made us participate in the monkey hunt which they killed with bow and arrows and then grilled and ate (them). None of this was real, as well as being unpleasant to watch. The day with the local populations should be modified or eliminated by moving earlier to Zanzibar, in my opinion. Hotels in Zanzibar top!
