Itinerary

Ten days in Thailand in the Collection version, with all the comforts imaginable, combining the most iconic places in the Land of Smiles with wilder, more local experiences, in full respect of the surrounding ecosystem. From Bangkok we fly north to the temples of Chiang Rai and the night markets of Chiang Mai, then into the jungle with the elephants, among nature reserves dedicated to the protection of elephants and native vegetation.

Then the postcard sea: dream beaches, white sand and crystal clear water on the island of Koh Samui and in the Mu Koh Ang Thong Marine National Park. Along the way, royal palaces, Thai food and an immense desire to go beyond our limits. Ready to go?

A travel route map of Thailand starting and ending in Bangkok, showing a looped itinerary across Southeast Asia.

Check-in in Bangkok

Round trip flights are not included in the package, so you can choose from where and when you want to fly. This is to give you maximum freedom of choice!

We check in to our hotel in Bangkok and take this first Thai afternoon easy.

  • Time to recharge: after so many hours of flying, we pamper ourselves a bit in our first accommodation.

Street food or rooftop?

We decide together how to kick off our first evening in Thailand: either way, it starts on the right foot!

  • Hungry for street food? We can dive straight into the local culinary culture and taste the street food.

  • Or a rooftop aperitif? We can enjoy a first aperitif on one of the many rooftops of the skyscrapers downtown.

A low-angle view of a walkway leading towards an ornate white temple, flanked by large, intricate statues under a blue sky.

The temples of Chiang Rai

The real adventure begins: this morning we head back to the airport and fly from Bangkok to Chiang Rai, the capital of Thailand's far north.

  • Temple tour with a guide: with the best local guide, we explore the city's temples: the White Temple, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha and the Blue Temple.

  • Hidden temples: plenty of small temples are waiting to be discovered, and we have time to find the lesser-known ones!

Among the night market stalls

Like any self-respecting Asian city, Chiang Rai has its own night market, the liveliest place in town.

  • Evening at the night market: tourists and locals mix here, and we spend our evening among its stalls.

Khao soi and live music

What's for dinner? Some excellent khao soi, a delicious curry soup with chicken and noodles.

  • Live music: then we watch shows by local bands, a full immersion in the local culture!

An illuminated resort with traditional architecture reflects in a calm lake at dusk, alongside a large, decorated tree.

A day your way

The things to do in Thailand are endless, so today we can each create our perfect day, solo or in company:

  • Massage, martial arts or cooking? An authentic Thai massage, a martial arts lesson or a cooking class to learn the legendary Pad Thai.

  • Just relax? If we prefer, a day of pure relaxation within the elegant walls of our hotel.

  • Out into nature? Or discovering the nature that surrounds Chiang Rai.

A woman from behind wearing a WeRoad backpack looks at a large, ornate temple flanked by two giant statues in a courtyard.

Walking tour and night markets

Time to say goodbye to Chiang Rai: a comfortable private transfer takes us south, but just a bit! Our next stop is similar to the previous one only in name: Chiang Mai, in the far north of Thailand and the country's second largest city, the smaller, more relaxed answer to the madness of Bangkok.

  • Walking tour: as soon as we arrive, we set off on a walking tour of the city.

  • Night markets: in the evening, the night markets, absolutely unmissable!

A smiling woman on a WeRoad group trip touches an elephant's trunk in a jungle clearing.

A day with the elephants

Today we leave the asphalt and chaos of Chiang Mai behind and immerse ourselves in the jungle: a 100% nature day!

  • Into the greenery: we admire the local fauna in a fresh, relaxing setting.

  • With the elephants: the elephants become our friends: we feed them, roll in the mud with the young ones and bathe in the river together.

An experience that fully respects the health of the elephants and will stay in our hearts forever.

First day on the island

In the morning a comfortable transfer takes us to the airport for our flight to Koh Samui, the second largest island in Thailand, with something for everyone.

  • Beaches or rainforest? We can enjoy the sea on white beaches dotted with palm trees and, for the sportier among us, coconut forests and dense rainforest are around the corner.

  • The Big Buddha: no shortage of temples, like the famous golden statue of the Big Buddha, 12 meters high, in the temple of Wat Phra Yai, on a small island connected to Koh Samui by a causeway.

  • A night out on the beach? We decide together what to do, then spend the evening in some club, even better if it's on the beach!

A high-angle view of an archipelago with many lush, green islands sitting in turquoise water under a blue sky with clouds.

By private boat among 42 islets

A fairytale excursion: today we board a private boat to visit the Mu Koh Ang Thong Marine National Park, a protected area far from mass tourism. That's why it's among WeRoad's most loved days in Thailand.

  • Among 42 islets: nature, lakes, emerald lagoons and hills with viewpoints perfect for spectacular photos.

  • Snorkel or sunbathe? Snorkeling in calm, crystal-clear waters full of fish, or sunbathing on white strips of sand.

  • Dolphin watch: keep your eyes open, there are often dolphin sightings around here!

Today's watchword is relaxation: from lunch to fruit, from mask to fins, everything is included.

From under a large yellow and white umbrella, beanbag loungers are set up on a sandy beach facing the sea at sunrise.

Last beach day and dinner on the sand

We wake up to the sun streaming through the windows, facing the white beaches and crystal clear sea of an uncontaminated tropical paradise. The whole morning is ours to explore the island:

  • Snorkeling, anyone? Snorkeling is highly recommended: in this archipelago, moving a few hundred meters means finding completely different fish.

  • Up for Koh Tao? For the more active, there's the option of a boat trip to Koh Tao.

  • Last dinner on the sand: tonight it's our last dinner with our feet in the sand, the perfect time to show off your best outfit, and then we celebrate!

Empty lounge chairs with rolled green towels are lined up next to a long swimming pool with modern buildings in the background.

Temples, Wat Arun and last purchases

A domestic flight takes us back to the capital: if we have the energy (and time!), we take a walk among the temples of Bangkok.

  • Royal Palace and Wat Pho: we start from the Royal Palace, then continue to Wat Pho with its gigantic reclining golden Buddha.

  • Across the river to Wat Arun: a short boat trip takes us to Wat Arun, known as the “Temple of Dawn”, whose timeless atmosphere instills a profound peace.

  • Free time and last dinner: in the afternoon, free time for last purchases, then we meet for dinner: this time, really, our last!

Check-out and see you soon

We've reached the end of this adventure in Thailand: we say goodbye and promise to see each other again soon for another WeRoad!

Very interesting trip in terms of the activities offered. With a view to improvement, perhaps the logistics and timing of the travel should be reviewed (flights always early at dawn). In Bangkok, more time could be scheduled upon arrival, instead of leaving the next morning at dawn.

Unfortunately this WeRoad did not go very well for various reasons, this was my fourth WeRoad and I confess that I don't know if I will do any more. The organisation and construction of the trip as well as the logistics were inadequate and did not allow for fully enjoying the experience.

Fortunately, a super close-knit group was formed which made it possible to cope with the trip. Where relaxed paces were indicated, we found ourselves waking up at dawn every morning. Experiences and tours were well below collection standards, for example a dilapidated boat that was supposed to take us out to the open sea, with rough seas; this tour was then interrupted due to a panic attack by a participant, with the rest of us firmly decided not to continue. I conclude with a transport lasting a full 11 hours including multiple vehicles to reach Koh Samui. Organisation totally absent. The described itinerary was a dream, the experience anything but. I do not recommend it.

The experience, unfortunately, was extremely disappointing for several reasons: Non-relaxing trip: all flights were scheduled at dawn (often at 7:00), which compromised the possibility of enjoying the booked Accommodation and the related breakfasts. Accommodation not up to standard: not all facilities were in line with what was promised or with the declared “Collection” standard. Itinerary changed for the worse: a direct arrival in Koh Samui from Chiang Mai was planned, but we found ourselves doing a real 11-hour tour de force with as many as 4 different means of transport, landing inland. Disappointing management by the Travel Coordinator: completely absent in managing the group. The extra activities proposed were not compatible with either the format or the travel times. We were asked to pay in advance, but in several cases the activities did not take place and the money was not returned. Lack of organizational support: check-in, check-out, dinner reservations and problem management fell entirely on the participants. Unprofessional behavior: the Travel Coordinator showed a personal involvement with one of the participants that negatively affected the group and the organization. Absence of transparency regarding the Money Pot: to date, we have not received any detailed report of the expenses incurred, nor information on how the collected money was used. Considering the high cost of the trip and the expectations I had for a “curated and worry-free” experience, I feel sincerely disappointed and, in some respects, scammed. I hope this feedback is taken into serious consideration. I remain available to elaborate on every point if necessary.

Thailandia Collection – disappointing experience The trip did not live up to a Collection: Accommodation below expectations, poorly balanced program with wake-up calls almost always at 5 (very little time in Bangkok and too many days elsewhere), chaotic transfers and even a flight declared as direct that turned into an 11-hour journey between various means of transport. An expensive trip that completely missed the promise of comfort and quality.
