This trip takes us from Bangkok to Koh Tao, passing through the northern cities of Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai, to immerse ourselves in the culture and traditions of this Southeast Asian country, its natural beauty and renowned nightlife. We start in the bustling capital with an evening in the Khao San Road district, then head north for temples, Buddha statues and a chance to interact with elephants. Heading south, we spend a night in Sukhothai, home to a UNESCO heritage site and the ancient Thai capital. Back in Bangkok, we take the night train to Chumphon and catch a ferry to Koh Tao: two days of beach, natural landscapes and the island's lively nightlife.

Check-in: our adventure starts in Bangkok

Roundtrip flights or transportation to reach the destination are not included in the package, so you can decide from where and when you want to leave! This gives you complete freedom of choice to adjust your travel itinerary to your needs.

Ready to start this trip the best way possible? We're talking about food, obviously.

  • First dinner together: tonight we meet each other over a first taste of the local cuisine, maybe pad thai (the real one!) or khao pad, a fried rice that sounds delicious.

First night on Khao San Road

The night doesn't end at dinner!

  • Out on Khao San Road: it continues on Khao San Road, one of the best streets to enjoy Bangkok's nightlife.

An ornate, all-white temple complex with intricate carvings and spires stands against a clear, deep blue sky.

From Bangkok to Chiang Rai

After the first night, the real journey begins! Today we fly from Bangkok to Chiang Rai, the northern capital of Thailand.

  • Temples of Chiang Rai: first stop, the city's temples, such as the White Temple, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha and the Blue Temple.

  • Lesser-known temples: many more are waiting to be discovered, and we have plenty of time to explore them.

  • Evening at the night market: we spend the evening at the lively night market, popular with both tourists and locals.

  • Khao Soi and live music: we try the delicious Khao Soi, a curry soup with chicken and noodles, while local bands play: a true immersion in the local culture.

A WeRoad group trip walks down a long, tiled staircase with ornate dragon balustrades, surrounded by a lush green forest.

We arrive in Chiang Mai!

After a nice breakfast, a local bus takes us to Chiang Mai, on the banks of the Ping River. The city is known for its beautiful temples and sculptures, and for the markets in the centre where merchants and craftsmen sell a wide variety of items.

  • Guided walking tour: we begin with a guided walk to discover the secrets of the city.

  • Up the steps of Doi Suthep: one of the must-see places is the Doi Suthep Temple, 300 steps up, with stone dragons along the staircase to guide us!

Relaxation and street food

  • Fancy a Thai massage? After the day's activities, we can indulge in a traditional Thai massage to rejuvenate ourselves.

  • Dinner at the night market: we end the day at the renowned night market, where authentic Thai street food is our dinner for the night.

Nature and Thai cooking class

This morning is yours to explore, while the afternoon is all about Thai food.

  • City streets or hills? Wander through the bustling streets of Chiang Mai, or head into the nearby hills for rafting, zip-lining or trekking in Doi Inthanon National Park.

  • Time with the elephants? Make a dream come true: meet elephants in the jungle, learn about their lives and maybe even join them for a bath.

  • Thai cooking class: whatever we choose, the afternoon has one clear mission: mastering Thai cuisine! We shop for ingredients at the local market, then head to our cooking class, and of course we're the lucky ones who get to taste our own creations.

By bike among temples and monasteries

We set off early: a six-hour journey takes us to the ancient capital of the kingdom, Sukhothai, with enchanting Thai landscapes to keep us entertained or the perfect chance to rest.

Sukhothai is one of the most spectacular places in the country: a vast complex of temples, monasteries and statues so well preserved it will leave you in awe. Its name means “Dawn of Happiness”.

  • By bike around the site: on arrival we stretch our legs with a leisurely bike tour of the city, the best way to cover the entire site over long distances.

  • Wat Sangkhawat: a sense of happiness and wonder is exactly what we feel before the mysterious Wat Sangkhawat, a group of ruins surrounded by lush vegetation.

Private van and overnight bus

A hectic day of travel, but it will definitely be worth it!

  • Private van to Bangkok: after a satisfying breakfast, a private van takes us from Sukhothai to Bangkok, with a stop for a meal and a break en route.

  • Overnight bus to Chumphon: in Bangkok we catch an overnight bus to Chumphon, which we reach the following morning.

People walk on a white sandbar leading to a lush green island, with a red kayak on the beach and swimmers in the clear turquoise water.

Finally, the Thai sea!

In the morning we set off for our final destination: Koh Tao, for two days of relaxing on one of Thailand's most beautiful islands! It lies in the Gulf of Thailand, about an hour by boat from Koh Phangan, and is known for its clear beaches, blue sea and tropical vegetation.

  • Into snorkelling? Its natural beauty and unique coral reef make it a popular destination for snorkelling and other marine sports, so be sure to pack fins, masks and snorkels!

  • Sunset bars and discos? In the evening we can enjoy chill-out music and drinks at sunset bars on the beach, then hit one or two discos open until 2am.

In Koh Tao it's never too late: the next day there's diving and all the other activities to explore.

Return to Chumphon

After two blissful days of relaxation, snorkeling, swimming and beautiful beaches, we soak up the sun for a few last hours before bidding farewell to Koh Tao.

  • Ferry to Chumphon: one final swim, then we head to the port to board a ferry to Chumphon.

  • Hotel in Chumphon: we check into a hotel, then relax or explore the city: your call!

Exploring the capital

We pack our bags and say farewell to Chumphon.

  • Flight back to Bangkok: in the morning we head to the airport to catch a flight back to Bangkok, where our journey first began.

After so much time in Thailand's natural landscapes, adjusting to the hustle and bustle of the city may be a challenge, but we'll give it a try!

Two colorful tuk-tuks parked on a wet city street at night, illuminated by glowing red neon signs on the buildings.

Our last night in Bangkok

A city always has must-see places: this morning we walk through Bangkok's temples.

  • Royal Palace and Wat Pho: we start with the Royal Palace, then Wat Pho with its giant golden reclining Buddha.

  • Across the river to Wat Arun: a short boat ride takes us to Wat Arun, the “Temple of Dawn”, with a serene atmosphere that instils a sense of peace.

  • Free afternoon: time for some shopping and, depending on the day, we may also visit local markets, great places to buy local goods.

  • Final dinner together: back at our accommodation for a quick shower, then our final dinner together with delicious Thai food.

Let's raise a toast to all the emotions we have experienced and shared!

Check-out and goodbye

We have reached the end of this adventure in Thailand: we say goodbye and promise to see each other again soon for another WeRoad!
