Nine years ago, we started with a simple idea: that travel could be the best way to meet new people. Today, that idea powers a community of hundreds of thousands of travelers and brings us to an important milestone.
WeRoad has closed a $58 million Series C funding round led by Airbnb. The round also included our long-time investors, including H14. The total funding raised since the company was founded has now reached $100 million, which will support WeRoad’s first major expansion outside Europe: the United States.
How we got here
WeRoad started in 2017. Since then more than 300,000 people have traveled with us across over 1,000 itineraries around the world. In the last year alone, 100,000 people traveled with WeRoad and around 90% of them joined solo — and almost none of them returned feeling that way.
The community behind every trip
Behind all of this is a community built step by step from 3.5 million social media followers to more than 4,000 Group Leaders. Our Group Leaders are experienced travelers who lead each group, manage logistics, and, most importantly, are the reason a group of strangers no longer feels like strangers by the end of the trip.
Then came WeMeet
In 2025, we realized that the desire to connect in real life wasn’t limited to people traveling for two weeks on the other side of the world. It also applied to people living in the same city who, maybe on a Tuesday evening, feel like going out for dinner, going on a hike, joining a yoga session, or enjoying an evening drink with new people.
That’s how WeMeet was born: an offline experiences platform open to everyone, including people who have never traveled with us. In one year we’ve held 2,000 events, with 50,000 participants, in more than 38 cities, and 150,000 app downloads. Numbers that confirmed something we already suspected — people aren’t just looking for new places. They’re looking for people.
Why the United States, and why now
We live in a time when artificial intelligence and social media are reshaping the way we connect with each other. And amid all this digital connection, real human connection has become increasingly rare. Around 30% of young adults say they feel lonely every day. In the United States, this phenomenon is especially significant.
We believe we have an answer. Not the only one, not a perfect one, but a real one: putting people in a room together (or on a quad bike in Morocco, in a canoe in Vietnam, or in front of a sunset in Patagonia) and letting whatever is meant to happen, happen.
Where we’re starting in the US
In the United States, we’re launching with WeRoad itineraries already available in the international market, alongside a selection of itineraries designed specifically for the American market, as well as WeMeet events, which will serve as the first point of contact with the local community. Recently, we’ve just held our first selection weekend for US Group Leaders in Austin. It’s a beginning!
What comes next
Entering the United States doesn’t change the way we work in Europe: our trips, Group Leaders, and WeMeet events will continue as always. But it does open a new chapter in a market where demand for shared experiences is growing faster than anywhere else — and where we believe we can bring something meaningful.
It’s the biggest step we’ve taken so far. And in some ways, it’s still just the beginning.
