We will step aboard private boat tours to swim in hidden lagoons, relax under swaying palm trees, and experience the legendary Brazilian nightlife. Returning to the capital, we will stand at the feet of Christ the Redeemer and ride the cable cars up Sugarloaf Mountain for world-class city views. This trip balances high-energy exploration, cultural monuments, and deep relaxation. Join us as we experience the incredible rhythm of Brazil on this unforgettable, punchy coastal group trip.

Welcome to Rio de Janeiro
1 night: Rio de Janeiro
Welcome Dinner & Caipirinha Toast
Welcome to the Marvellous City! Upon landing in Rio de Janeiro, we check into our beachside hotel and take some time to shake off our jet lag. In the evening, we gather for our first official group briefing to meet our fellow travelers and map out our tropical week ahead. Afterward, we head out into the vibrant streets for a traditional Brazilian welcome dinner, tasting local picanha and raising our first glasses of caipirinha to toast the start of our incredible coastal adventure.

Colonial Paraty
1 night: Paraty
Cobblestones & Local Cachaça Tasting
Today we leave the bustling city behind and step into our private van to travel south along the scenic Costa Verde. Our destination is the magical, historic town of Paraty, a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its preserved Portuguese colonial architecture. Upon arrival, we will walk through the pedestrian-only cobblestone streets, admiring the whitewashed buildings decorated with colorful window frames. In the evening, we will sample locally distilled cachaça at an authentic local tavern.

Private Boat Trip
1 night: Paraty
Escuna & Tropical Snorkeling
Get your swimwear ready because today is all about the ocean! We step aboard our private boat for an exclusive cruise through the calm, emerald waters of Paraty Bay. We will explore hidden beaches and tiny tropical islands that are completely inaccessible by land. Throughout the day, we will jump into the warm water to snorkel with colorful marine life, enjoy a fresh lunch served on deck, and relax under the brilliant Brazilian sun before we return for a lively dinner.

Island Paradise of Ilha Grande
1 night: Abraoo
Crossing to Car-Free AbraĂŁo
This morning we continue our journey toward paradise as we take a private transfer to the port town of Angra dos Reis. From there, we catch a ferry to Ilha Grande, a magnificent, completely car-free island covered in dense Atlantic rainforest. We arrive at the main village of Vila do AbraĂŁo, drop our bags at our cozy pousada, and spend the afternoon exploring the pristine local shores on foot, listening to the jungle sounds and relaxing on the sand.

Boat Tour of Ilha Grande's Lagoons
1 night: Abraao
Green Lagoon & Barefoot Beach Vibes
Today we embark on our second private boat tour, exploring the legendary outer shores of Ilha Grande. We will navigate to the famous Lagoa Verde and Lagoa Azul, where the water is so clear that it feels like swimming in a natural aquarium. We will swim alongside sea turtles, explore secluded coves, and enjoy a relaxed lunch at a beachfront restaurant. As night falls back in the village, we will experience the islandâs barefoot party vibe with music on the sand.

Return to Rio de Janeiro
1 night: Rio de Janeiro
Mainland Transit & Nightlife
It is time to say goodbye to our island sanctuary as we board our morning speedboat back to the mainland. Our private group van will be waiting to drive us directly back to Rio de Janeiro. After checking into our hotel, we enjoy a free afternoon to hit the famous sands of Copacabana or Ipanema beach. In the evening, we will head to the bohemian neighborhood of Lapa to experience Rioâs legendary nightlife.

Full Day City Tour
1 night: Rio de Janeiro
Christ the Redeemer & Sugarloaf Mountain
Today we experience the absolute icons of Rio de Janeiro on a comprehensive, private city tour. We can board the historic cog train through the Tijuca rainforest to stand directly beneath the majestic statue of Christ the Redeemer. Afterward, we will ride the panoramic cable cars up to the peak of Sugarloaf Mountain (PĂŁo de AçĂșcar) to witness a spectacular 360-degree view of Guanabara Bay and the city skyline before sharing a group dinner.

Free Day
1 night: Rio de Janeiro
Beach Freedom & Farewell Group Dinner
This is our completely open day to experience Rio exactly how we want. We can spend the morning relaxing on Ipanema beach, watching locals play futevĂŽlei, or optionally book a hang-gliding flight over the coastline. Alternatively, we can visit the artistic Santa Teresa neighborhood or check out the futuristic Museum of Tomorrow. In the evening, we will gather for our final farewell dinner to celebrate our incredible 9-day journey through tropical Brazil.

Farewell from Rio de Janeiro

About this trip
This trip starts in Rio de Janeiro. On the first day, weâll meet at 17:00.
Your Group Leader will add you to the WhatsApp group for your trip about 15 days before departure.
Itâs a great way to start getting to know your travel mates, receive more details about the first dayâs meeting point, and ask any pre-departure questions you might have.
This trip ends in Rio de Janeiro. The trip officially ends at 09:00 on the last day, so we recommend planning your return transfers accordingly. For example:
if you need to book a flight, consider the time needed to reach the airport and complete check-in procedures;
if you need to book a train or continue your journey independently, consider the time required to reach the station or your next destination.
If you have any doubts, you can contact the coordinator assigned to your departure for advice.
For this itinerary, traveling with a backpack is mandatory for logistical reasons and the convenience of the entire group - including yourself! Trolleys, bulky suitcases, or hard luggage are not allowed. The Travel Group Leader will provide guidance on the ideal baggage before departure via the WhatsApp group.
About Brazil
Find out the entry requirements for Brazil, and, if needed, apply for your visa through our partner Sherpa.
Before traveling, always remember to check the government website of your country of origin for updates on the entry requirements for Brazil â you wouldnât want to stay home due to a bureaucratic detail!
- UK residents: review the FCDO Travel Advice.
- US residents: consult the US Department of State Travel Advice.
- Other residents: refer to your government or local consulate's travel advice.
Brazil covers multiple time zones, so it varies depending on where you are:
- BrasĂlia Time (BRT): This is the most common, and it's 3 hours behind GMT. If it's 12pm in the UK, it will be 9am in BrasĂlia. For the USA, if it's 12pm EST, it will be 2pm in BrasĂlia.
- Amazon Time (AMT): 4 hours behind GMT. If it's 12pm in the UK, it's 8am in Manaus. For the USA, if it's 12pm EST, it will be 1pm in Manaus.
- Fernando de Noronha Time (FNT): This is 2 hours behind GMT. If it's 12pm in the UK, it will be 10am in Fernando de Noronha. For the USA, if it's 12pm EST, it will be 3pm there.
Note that Brazil does not currently observe daylight saving time.
Brazil uses the Brazilian Real (BRL) as its currency. The exchange rate can fluctuate, but as a rough guide, 1 GBP is about 7 BRL, 1 USD is around 5 BRL, and 1 EUR is approximately 6 BRL. You can exchange currency at banks, exchange bureaus, and some hotels in major cities. It's always a good idea to compare rates and fees to get the best deal.
In Brazil, you can use credit cards, debit cards, and cash for most transactions. Credit and debit cards, especially Visa and Mastercard, are widely accepted in cities and tourist areas. However, it's always a good idea to carry some cash for smaller establishments or markets where cards might not be accepted. ATMs are available for cash withdrawals, but check with your bank about international transaction fees. Mobile payments like Apple Pay and Google Pay are also becoming more common. Remember to inform your bank of your travel plans to avoid any issues with card usage.
In Brazil, tipping is not mandatory, but it is appreciated. Service charges are often included in the bill at restaurants, typically around 10 percent. If it's not included, you might want to leave a tip of the same amount if youâre happy with the service. For other services like taxis or hotel staff, rounding up the fare or giving a small tip is a kind gesture. Keep in mind that tipping is less formalized than in the USA, so feel free to tip based on your satisfaction with the service.
In Brazil, you can find Wi-Fi in most hotels, cafes, and restaurants, especially in urban areas. However, coverage might be spotty in rural regions. For more reliable internet access, buying a local SIM card is a great idea. Major providers include Vivo, Claro, and TIM. These offer various prepaid plans that will keep you connected throughout your trip. If your phone supports e-SIMs, you can also explore e-SIM data plans for convenience. This way, you won't have to rely solely on Wi-Fi and can have internet access while on the go.
In Brazil, the official language is Portuguese. It's a bit different from the Portuguese spoken in Portugal, with some unique expressions you might hear or use during your trip. Here are a few handy ones:
- Hello: OlĂĄ
- Thank you: Obrigado (if you're male), Obrigada (if you're female)
- Please: Por favor
- How much?: Quanto custa?
- Good morning: Bom dia
Knowing a few phrases can make your trip more enjoyable and help you connect with locals!
In Brazil, the plugs are type N with two round pins and a grounding pin, similar to type C but with an added third pin. The voltage is generally 127/220V, and the frequency is 60Hz. Since these plugs and voltage might be different from what you're used to in Europe or the USA, it's a good idea to bring a universal adapter to ensure your devices can be charged safely.
The main religion in Brazil is Christianity, with Roman Catholicism being the most widely practiced. Approximately 65% of the population identifies as Roman Catholic. Besides Catholicism, Protestantism is also significant, with about 22% of Brazilians following various Protestant denominations, including Evangelicals, Pentecostals, and Baptists. Important religious holidays in Brazil include Good Friday, Easter, and Christmas, which are celebrated nationwide with various traditions and festivities.
Brazil is a diverse country with various climates, so it's good to be prepared for different conditions. Here's a helpful list of what to pack in your backpack:
-
Clothing:
- Lightweight shirts and shorts
- A light jacket or sweater for cooler evenings
- Swimwear
- Long pants for mosquito protection
-
Shoes:
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Sandals or flip-flops
- Waterproof shoes if visiting during the rainy season
-
Accessories and Technology:
- Sunglasses and a hat
- A power bank
- Camera or smartphone
- Universal adapter
-
Toiletries and Medication:
- Sunscreen and insect repellent
- Personal hygiene items
- Travel-sized first aid kit
- Common travel medication like pain relievers and motion sickness pills
Brazil's climate can vary greatly, so pack according to the season and region you'll be visiting.
Brazil's weather varies greatly depending on the region, so hereâs a quick guide:
- Amazon Rainforest Area (Manaus): Hot and humid all year, with a rainy season from December to May. Best time to visit is June to November.
- Northeast Coast (Salvador, Recife): Warm and tropical climate with a wet season from April to July. Best time to visit is September to March.
- Central Brazil (BrasĂlia): Tropical savanna climate, with a rainy season from October to April. Best time to visit is May to September.
- Southeast (Rio de Janeiro, SĂŁo Paulo): Warm summers and mild winters, with rain mostly in the summer months from December to March. Best time to visit is April to October.
- South (Porto Alegre): Subtropical climate with hot summers and cool winters. Rain is more evenly distributed throughout the year. Best time to visit is March to May or September to November.

For our trips we usually use locally owned accommodation instead of big hotel chains. Itâs our favourite way to really experience the local culture and, whenever we can, support the local economy. Typically, youâll stay in hotels, apartments, guesthouses and hostels with the same standard maintained across all trips in the same destination.
The list of accommodation for your trip will be shared with you by your Group Leader 2-5 days before departure, along with other useful details for your adventure!
Generally, our groups have an average of 11 people. Everyone on our trips speaks English, and travellers join us from across the UK, Europe and beyond. Our trips are open to travelers between 25 and 49 years old. The indicated age is meant to give you an idea of the type of group, but it's not a strict limit: it's possible to participate even with a few years more or less, as long as you can keep up with the pace and energy of the group you're traveling with.
Each group will be joined and led by one of our experienced Group Leaders, whoâs there to ensure everything runs smoothly and the group feels well-supported.Â
If youâd like to know more about our typical WeRoad groups do reach out to us on WhatsApp on +44 7716573700.Â
Yes! If you're curious, you can take a sneak peek at the group before booking.Â
Youâll find the info in the âGroupâ section for each trip on the departures page, showing how many WeRoaders have already booked.Â
Click the little arrow and youâll even see their gender and ages â but hey, thatâs exclusive info, so weâll ask you to log in or sign up to see that!
For some trips, in the itinerary section, youâll find the number of nights and the location (not the hotel) where youâll be spending the night(s). The location shown is the one we usually go for on most trips, but in some cases, you might stay in a nearby town. This will depend on logistics or availability of accommodation.Â
The list of accommodation for your trip (and therefore also the exact locations) will be shared by your Travel Group Leader 2-5 days before departure, along with other useful information for your adventure!
The WeRoad Travel Group Leader is an experienced and skilled traveller who will be the perfect companion for your trip. They will manage all the logistical aspects of the itinerary like transport, timings, accommodation, restaurant bookings and meeting points, so that you can enjoy the trip without this hassle. Theyâre there to support the group, ensure everything runs smoothly and will no doubt make the trip a lot of fun along the way too!Â
The Group Leader will set up a WhatsApp group approximately 2 weeks before departure. This will be the moment to ask any pre-departure questions and get to know the rest of the group! If the trip you are interested in already has a Travel Group Leader assigned, you can contact them before booking. Their details will be on the trip page, or you can search for their name here. After booking, you will find their contact details in your My WeRoad account, under âBookings and Tripsâ > âYour Upcoming Tripsâ > âTrip Detailsâ.
Yes, on all our trips you will share a room with other WeRoaders in your group. By default this will be people of the same gender, unless you tick âI'm OK with a mixed gender roomâ when you book. The bathroom will either be private or shared only with other travellers on the trip. The rooms might be twins, triples, quadruples or multi-share (up to 8 people in exceptional cases), depending on the destination and availability.
You will never share with people from outside of the WeRoad group, except in certain cases for local experiences, which are specifically mentioned in the itinerary or communicated before booking. These typically involve specific nights in unique accommodation like tents, homestays, or camping, offering a more adventurous travel experience in exchange for some comfort.
On some of our trips we can offer a private room for an additional cost. Just tick the âPrivate Roomâ option at checkout to get this added. For some of our trips if you book as two travellers together you can add this private room free of charge. Look out for this option at checkout.Â
Please note that if you do book a private room with a friend/partner this could be either a double or a twin room so please email hello@weroad.com if you have a preference on this.Â
When you set off on a WeRoad trip, youâre officially a WeRoader â and as we often say, 'once a WeRoader, always a WeRoader'. This means that once youâre part of the community, a little piece of WeRoad will always stay with you.
But youâre not just a WeRoader during your trips, far from it! The community is alive and active all year round: you can stay in touch by following and interacting on our social media channels, like the Facebook group or the Instagram profile. You can also come along to one of our many events that we run in different cities worldwide. Check out and sign up to our events by downloading the WeMeet app here.Â
